Abstract

The community service program under the Regional Empowerment (PW) scheme aims to enhance economic capacity and community welfare through local product innovation based on appropriate technology (AT). Doplang Village in Semarang Regency has significant potential in cultivating tuberose, which is integrated into micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the support of AT. This innovation distinguishes local MSME products from existing market offerings through the application of technologies such as Solar Cell Battery Storage Systems, packaging tools, social media branding, and formulations for products like soap and hand sanitizer. The program was implemented through workshops, training sessions, and intensive mentoring, focusing on developing skills in product development, management, and marketing. Pre-test and post-test evaluations showed a significant improvement of over 50 points in participants’ skills and knowledge, particularly in management and product innovation. The program resulted in six main products, including baby oil, perfume, hand sanitizer, and laundry soap, contributing to local economic growth and supporting sustainable tourism through diversification of tuberose-based products and the application of renewable energy.

Abstract

The Tirta Jatisari Water Supply and Sanitation Management Group (KP-SPAMS) faced challenges ensuring transparency in water usage and efficiency in billing due to the limitations of conventional water meters. These meters lacked real-time monitoring capabilities, hindering leak detection and leading to billing inaccuracies. To address this, an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system integrated with a web application was implemented to improve transparency and operational efficiency. The methodology involved needs analysis and system design, IoT device development, installation of flow meter sensors, development of a user-friendly web application for both KP-SPAMS managers and consumers, and comprehensive system training and socialization. Results demonstrated improved billing accuracy and speed, along with real-time water usage monitoring for both KP-SPAMS and consumers, facilitating timely leak detection. The implementation successfully increased consumer satisfaction and fostered the development of technologically adept human resources.

Abstract

The Opak Samiler business group in Wonosunyo Village uses manual production methods, resulting in low productivity only 3 kg of dry opak per day, produced only in their free time after fieldwork. The lengthy and skill-intensive dough flattening process, along with uneven opak thickness, frequently receives consumer complaints. High demand, particularly during Eid al-Fitr, is difficult to meet due to limited production capacity and weather conditions. Therefore, this community service project aimed to increase the business group's productivity by implementing Lean Tools-based work aids: a mechanical samiler printer and a drying machine. The implementation involved socializing and training the business group members on tool use, and evaluating the production process post-implementation. Consequently, these work aids increased productivity by up to 65% compared to conventional methods.

Abstract

Lifestyle changes, technological advances, and demographic transitions have triggered an increase in cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are two of the most common NCDs and are often associated with other health problems, such as stroke, heart disease, kidney disorders, and death. Therefore, screening and education to improve public understanding and the effectiveness of therapy are crucial. In Padukuhan Gerjo, Grogol Village, Gunung Kidul Regency, an area with a population of about 408 people, including approximately 146 older adults, there is a need to improve access to NCD screening. To support the establishment of a senior health post, community service activities were conducted to screen the health status of local residents, focusing on NCDs. Health checks included measuring blood pressure, random blood sugar (RBS), height and weight, and conducting interviews regarding eating habits. Twenty-eight older adults participated. Health workers from the Grogol Health Center and local health cadres participated to ensure sustainability. The results showed that 55.14% of participants had hypertension; two (7.14%) had hyperglycemia; and approximately 10.71% were obese (BMI ≥25), placing them at high risk of health problems. This initiative will inform future counseling and socialization efforts regarding NCDs among older adults in Padukuhan Gerjo.

Abstract

The lack of ability among SMPN 1 Jamblang teachers to utilize infographics resulted in low student engagement and a lack of variation in teaching methods. This community service aimed to improve teachers' ability to use infographics as interactive and effective learning tools to enhance the quality of education and student engagement. Activities included initial socialization and a focus group discussion (FGD), followed by a workshop on creating infographics using Canva and Prezi, and training on effective design principles. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted via WhatsApp groups and collaborative assignments uploaded to Google Drive to facilitate feedback and peer learning. Results showed increased teacher proficiency in creating informative and engaging infographics, boosted self-confidence (particularly among teachers previously struggling with technology), and greater enthusiasm for and integration of technology into teaching.

Abstract

This community service activity focuses on the planning and design of the renovation of the Sabilul Muttaqin Mosque in Perum Gemilang, Samarinda City. The main objective is to enhance the capacity and aesthetics of the mosque through the expansion of interior spaces, the renewal of a more modern exterior facade, and the replacement of the dome. The method used is a participatory approach, involving the Mosque Committee (DKM) in every stage of planning. The results of field observations and in-depth interviews indicate the need for a flexible multi-functional space and a facade design that combines traditional and contemporary values. The technical drawing documents produced are expected to serve as a reference for the realization of the mosque renovation. The contribution of this activity is expected to provide direct benefits to the congregation and the surrounding community and to serve as a model for mosque renovation planning involving the community.

Abstract

Wori Village, located in the buffer zone of the Likupang Tourism Special Economic Zone (KEK), requires development of both its natural and human resources. Natural resource optimization can be achieved through diversification, specifically by producing liquid soap from the nipah plant. Human resource development necessitates increased public awareness of skin health and personal hygiene. This Community Service aimed to educate the Wori Village community on personal hygiene and provide a practical solution for reducing skin diseases through the use of antibacterial liquid soap. The methodology comprised socialization, training, technology application, mentoring, evaluation, and plans for program sustainability. The resulting NIPALS soap met quality standards, exhibiting a pH of 7. Evaluation demonstrated a 96.7% increase in participants' knowledge of personal hygiene and soap-making (pre-test vs. post-test). Furthermore, 95.5% of participants expressed satisfaction with the soap (4.5% considered it average). Positive user experiences included a 97% absence of itching, 76.7% reporting a tightening effect, and 70% noting moisturization. These results, supported by positive hedonic test results, confirm the successful production of liquid soap by the participants.
