Abstract

Chordomas are rare, slowly growing, locally aggressive neoplasms of bone that arise from embryonicremnants of the notochord. Chondroid-chordoma is an uncommon variant of chordoma. These tumorstypically occur in the axial skeleton. Here we report a rare occurrence of chondroid variant of chordomaat sacrococcygeal region in a 60 year old female. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed expansile massinvolvingsacrococcygeal region.Gross and microscopic examination confirmed chondroid chordoma.Laterpatient underwent radiotherapy, doingwell,on a one year follow up. Chondroid chordoma is discussed dueto its predilection for occurrence at sacrococcygealregion and its more favorable prognosis compared withthat of conventional chordoma.

Abstract

Aim: There are studies comparing the effects of post isometric relaxation technique & reciprocal inhibitiontechnique on hamstring muscle flexibility but to the best of our knowledge there is hardly any study that hasreported comparative immediate effect of these two techniques. Thus the aim of our study was to evaluatethe immediate effect of these two techniques on hamstring muscle flexibility.Method: The research design used was Comparative Experimental study design. Total 46 participants werescreened and those meeting the inclusion criteria (n=40) were included in the study. The participants wererandomly divided into two groups- group A - post isometric relaxation and Group B - reciprocal inhibitionof 20 each. Pre and immediate post intervention scores were measured in terms of AKETFindings: Inter group comparison (student’s unpaired t test) showed that there was no statistically significantdifference between the two groups in terms of AKET. The comparison of pre and post intervention values ofthe outcome measure in both the groups showed a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: It can be concluded from the present study that both post isometric relaxation technique &reciprocal inhibition technique have an immediate effect on reducing hamstring muscle tightness. Fromthe mean difference values it is visible that PIR (13.20) is slightly more effective than RI (5.45) althoughstatistically significant difference is not seen.

Abstract

Introduction: Burn injury is not only leading health problem in adult but it also cause significant mortalityand morbidity in children.Burns can be devastating injuries for children, the immediate effect of which iscompounded by ongoing pain, cosmetic and physical disfigurement, impairment, multiple dressing changesand surgical procedures. This prospective analytical study was planned to study the pattern of burn deathsin infant and children.Material and Method: This Study was carried out in department of forensic medicine and Toxicology, B.J.Medical College, Ahmedabad over the period of 2 year during which 30 cases were studied and analysed.Data was maintained using Microsoft Office Excel and analysed suing test of proportions.Result: Out of 30 cases studied during this period 18 (60%) cases were males and rest 12 (40%) werefemales. Most common type of burn was scald in 25 (83%) of cases, followed by electrocution in 3 (10%)cases and most common cause of death was septicaemia in 70% of cases followed by shock due to burns in6 (20%) cases. Conclusion: Burn injuries caused to them are because of their curiosity and innocent nature and unable tounderstand the extent of damage that will be cause by it. As these injuries are accidental and mostly occurin home, they are preventable.

Abstract

Aim and Objective: Compare the physiological responses within bouts of aerobic exercise varying inintensity and the presence of wearable weights.Study Design: Interventional studySettings: Exercise Physiology Lab at the department of Physiology, JNMC, Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha.Method and Material: Forty (18 females, 22 males, mean age = 22.23 ± 1.32) healthy volunteers weretested for aerobic fitness on a treadmill to determine VO2. Participants completed eight 30-minute walkingtrials on a treadmill and oxygen consumption (VO2) and heart rate (HR) were monitored while walkingat different speeds and with varying combination of upper and lower body external weights. The designincluded two intensities (slow walking and brisk walking) and four conditions (no weights, arm weights, legweights, and arm and leg weights) for a total of eight experimental trials.Statistical Analysis Used: ANOVA and pair-wise comparisons on SPSS software version 24.Results: VO2 was significantly lower without the wearable weights in comparison to wearing both upperand lower weights in the slow walk trial (P < 0.001; ES = 0.74) and also during the brisk walk trial (P <0.001; ES = 0.35). HR was significantly higher during the brisk walk trials with external weights on both thearms and legs (P=0.018, ES=0.37).Conclusions: Findings suggest that the metabolic responses were significantly increased wearing externalweights on both the arm and leg during walking exercise on treadmill and increasing energy expenditure(burning additional calories) over the 30 minute session and have minimal impact on heart rate.
