Abstract

Using two different types of instruments—a questionnaire to determine students' writing apprehension and a writing test using descriptive texts to decide students' writing skills—this study investigated the correlation between writing apprehension and students' writing skills. This study used quantitative correlational research, and the English department served as the study's target population. Additionally, the researchers employed cluster sampling and correlational design, which can choose a representative sample and represent the population. To conduct the analysis, the researchers chose one class as a sample, and thirty-five students from the third semester were chosen as the sample. According to the researchers, writing apprehension and students' writing skills were shown to be negatively correlated, who concluded that the correlation between the two was r = -0.642. The inverse correlation indicates that students did not perform as good as on writing tests the more frequently they worry about writing. Additionally, it can be inferred that there is a strong correlation between students' writing skills and their level of writing apprehension. Future researchers can focus on strategies for reducing fear of writing or what methods and teaching are proper to reduce students' high levels of fear.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of language learning strategies in writing descriptive text in an open area. Also, this research is subject to investigate the significant difference in students’ achievement before and after implementing learning strategies in writing using descriptive text in an open area. The researchers applied pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design and collected the data by giving a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The research sample was a public senior high school in Tana Toraja regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, consisting of thirty students. The research findings showed that the tenth-grade senior high school students had fair to poor scores in a pre-test. After giving treatment, their writing skill in descriptive text significantly increased. The research results showed that implementing language learning strategies in writing descriptive text in an open area is effective. Also, the investigation showed a significant difference in students' achievement before and after being taught using language learning strategies in writing descriptive text in an open area. However, the teacher's responsibility as an instructor is to ensure students understand the topic in writing, particularly when creating descriptive language. To help students comprehend writing better, the teacher should provide some basic writing instruction. Writing descriptive language in an open space helps students learn writing more quickly and easily. To measure their significance for English language education innovation, open area learning methodologies should be investigated further to enhance other abilities like reading or speaking.

Abstract

Religion and culture seem to be complicated concepts from an international relations viewpoint. Scholars and philosophers have, after all, long discussed the meaning of these words and their influence on our understanding of the social world. The purpose of this paper is to provide a diagram of religion and culture in international politics. The purpose was to highlight the significance of religious and cultural influences in understanding world events. The process consisted of identifying the characteristics of each concept and analyzing their impact on personal, national, and international experiences. This work argues that understanding religious and cultural issues is necessary to engage in some of the most important discussions about current world affairs. This work submits that there is nothing in modern IR that does not include religion, culture, or both. This research is carried out using critical and contextual analysis methods.

Abstract

Task-oriented and relationship-oriented leadership styles can also be classified as autocratic or participative. Both types must be understood in terms of the decision-making process they employ. The autocratic style functions autonomously, whereas the participatory style incorporates all team members in decision-making. There are several perspectives on integrated systems in leadership, but a set of shared principles is at the heart of this interconnectedness. However, these common principles strive for people’s holistic development, so family, civic, military, and religious leadership practices coexist with seamless coordination based on integrated systems. This study's endeavor addresses ontological and epistemological problems concerning the reality, being, and function of leadership. Specifically, this work investigates a leadership philosophy with specific reference to the Book of Deuteronomy of the Judeo-Christian Bible. This work argues that what the book of Deuteronomy teaches about leadership techniques is critical and basic to all the learning that can be gleaned from old and new biblical books. This is because the Torah, or Law, serves as the foundation for all teachings in the Bible, and the Torah contains the Book of Deuteronomy. Furthermore, because Moses taught the succession of teachings in the book, the leadership concept coming from the Book of Deuteronomy can be applied to nation-building. The research uses narrative and social-scientific criticism to analyze the characters and content.

Abstract

Because of its educational benefits for both learners and teachers, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Computational Thinking (CT), teaching paradigms, and problem-solving methodologies have become widely used in teaching and learning. However, research on its integration into the teaching and learning process is still sparse, leaving educators with few guidelines for using constructive learning theory techniques. This study aims to thoroughly review and determine the country of application, learner level, PBL and CT dimensions, and learning methodologies that can lead to the successful implementation of PBL-CT. From 2017 to 2022, this study tracks relevant and published articles to identify gaps in the implementation of PBL-CT and maps their history into a taxonomy that can be used to guide future research. Limited study has yet been published that specifically describes the suitable PBL-CT framework or paradigm. Most articles deal with computing, followed by STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and non-STEM subjects. Some key implications can assist educators in developing effective PBL-CT lesson designs and provide some research directions for future studies. Effective PBL-CT integration improves learners' computational thinking skills while boosting teaching and learning. One of the 21st-century amplifications required for student success in CT

Abstract

This research aims to describe the students' perspective on the use of captions in social media in learning English vocabulary, the EFL teachers' perspective on the use of captions in social media in teaching vocabulary, and the impact of the use of social media as a teaching and learning tool for English vocabulary. This research is a descriptive qualitative research design. Purposive sampling was used to collect samples from the teachers and students at the XII grade of one of the Vocational High Schools in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The instruments used in this research were an interview protocol and an observation checklist. The data showed that all students perceived social media captions helped them acquire vocabulary since the content was engaging, the learning materials were well-presented, and plenty of resources were available. In addition, the teachers stated that online teaching and learning have several advantages and disadvantages when using some media as their teaching strategy. Finally, vocabulary learning through social media positively impacts students' acquisition of more vocabulary. Vocabulary learning through social media captions is important for increasing students' vocabulary. Both teachers and students agree that captions on social media are extremely useful in teaching and learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not the use of social media by youth reduces their interaction with family. For the sample in this study, a simple random sampling method was used as part of a quantitative method. Students from the Business English Communication classes in the 2019–2020 and 2021 batches served as the study's subjects. In this study, there are two variables: social media (X) and interaction with family (Y). Two different types of questionnaires, open-ended and closed-ended, were used as the instruments and data collection techniques. The normality test, linearity test, and t-test for hypothesis testing were used in this study for data analysis. Data analysis was done based on the questionnaire results, and the outcomes for the two variables fell into the high category. The results of the study show that social media reduces adolescents' social interaction with family. The t-test results demonstrated that H0 is rejected when the value of t-count exceeds t-table (11.385> 2.002). Therefore, it can be concluded that the results support the Alternative hypothesis, which states that youth use of social media reduces the social interaction with family.

Abstract

Students' knowledge and acquisition of a second language is seen to improve with hybrid learning. Using offline and online activities is anticipated to produce greater results than conventional face-to-face activities. This study aims to compare the levels of learning achievement between conventional and hybrid learning strategies used in an English grammar class. 40 year -7 students, divided into two classes of 20 each, participated in the study as respondents. Pre-experimental research methods were used in this study, and the participants' pre- and post-test mean scores were compared. Multiple-choice questions were present on both the pre-test and post-test. The results demonstrated an improvement in both the pre-test (46.5) and post-test (46.5) means (71.00). Also, data from the statistical analysis revealed that Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000, less than (0.05), indicating a significant mean difference in grammar learning achievement affected by hybrid media after being supplied to students compared to conventional learning. It is concluded that hybrid learning may raise student achievement, particularly in English grammar.

Abstract

Most learners find science challenging, which may be because of the methodology used in the early years that presents it as difficult and abstract. On the other hand, the Montessori Method uses a hands-on approach to teaching science from the early years. This study, therefore, looks at the effect of the teachers' utilization of the Montessori approach to early childhood education in Ika South Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State, Nigeria. Two research questions and hypotheses were raised. The research design adopted for the study was a descriptive, pre-test, post-test, quasi-experimental method used to test the differences between the pupils' learning experiences in the two groups. The Taro Yamane formula was used to get the sample size, and a stratified random sampling technique was used to select 77 teachers and 40 nursery pupils, comprising ten each in experimental and control groups, in two schools in Ika South LGA of Delta State. The instruments to be used for this study will be self-designed multiple-choice achievement test questions in early years' science and four-point Likert-type self-structured questionnaires. The result indicates that teachers' knowledge and utilization of the Montessori approach to teaching pre-primary science is more effective than the conventional teaching method. Some suggestions were made for the way forward
