Abstract

This research is a qualitative research that examines the divine meaning of the Prambanan Temple for Hindus in Indonesia. This research was conducted at the Prambanan Temple Complex, Central Java, the National Museum of Indonesia, the Jakarta National Library, and the Yogyakarta Archaeological Agency. Data analysis was performed using qualitative analysis known as Ethnographic Content Analysis (ECA), a combination of objective content analysis with participant observation. Prambanan is a Hindu temple complex built using the Vāstupuruṣamaṇḍala concept, a development concept carefully designed to present Devata as the center of the mandala on earth. The construction of the Prambanan temple uses the calculation of Vāstu Śāstra-Śilpa Śāstra, starting with careful selection of the place, carrying out the preliminary ceremonies before construction to development, and setting up statues in the temple. Previous researchers concluded that Prambanan was built during the golden age of the Sailendra dynasty, which lasted for 110 years (750 - 860 AD). The construction involved several Brahmins, Śilpins, and various other skills and took a long time. The original name of the Prambanan Temple is Śivagrha which means the House of Śiva or Śivalaya-realm Śiva is also Lord iva's stana. Śivagrha is a temple complex worshiping the Tri Murti of Brahma, Visnu, and Śiva, as Creator, Preserver, and Consolidator. However, from the building's structure and the search for the text, this temple has a Śivaistic concept, that is, Śiva is worshiped as the supreme Devata. However, it also attracts other devotees and unites them, with the construction of other devatas worshiped in the various temples in the complex. Thus, Prambanan became a center of Hindu worship, a center of study, a center for Brahmin activity, a spiritual center, and a yatra destination. Prambanan is a Hindu Masterpiece, is useful in the past, but after twelve centuries, it continues to provide benefits to the surrounding community, local government, and state. This beautiful temple should continue to be cared for and sanctified as a very magnificent temple in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to study the essential synergy of divine identity in the Vedic scriptures and the Siwatattwa teachings. The divine identity which is the focus of this research is based on the reason for the development of the discourse "Back to the Veda" as a source of guidelines for Hindu practice in Bali. In this regard, this study focuses on the identity of divinity as a constructive symbol that carries the core teachings of Hinduism. This study was designed in an interpretive qualitative method using a comparative model of the two sources of divine teachings in general, namely the Vedic Scriptures and the Siwatattwa teachings. Novelties which related to the results of this research is that divine identity is essentially contained in the Vedic scriptures and in the Siwatattwa teaching has synergy. The transcendent divine identity in the two sources of Hinduism is abstract, which is beyond the senses and the mind. The divine identity in the immanent dimension is symbolized by name and form as the center of concentration for Hindus in living the existence of the power of” Brahman” or” Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa” in accordance with ista dewata (the embodiment of the revered god). The appreciation of divinity in Balinese-Hindu society uses the source of guidance for the Siwatattwa teachings in the implementation of Hinduism which is sourced from the Vedic scriptures, both sruti and smrti. This phenomenon is the basis for the development of the synergy of divine identity in the Vedic scriptures with the Siwatattwa teaching. In this regard, the appreciation of the divine aspects of Balinese Hindus who use the source of the guidance for the Siwatattwa teachings has also implemented Veda teachings.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0, the Covid-19 Pandemic, and the Society 5.0 are global phenomena that are driving social change towards a new era of the world society. Hindus also have to carry out adaptation strategies, both at the structural and cultural level in order to enter this new era. Sociological reflections on Hindu adaptation strategies are expressed through the phenomenological method which emphasizes the individual agency dimension and its integration with structural dynamics. The ability of Hindus to exercise control dialectics on the acceleration of information technology, ideological regulation and socio-cultural structures change in the new era is a determinant of success in their adaptation strategy.

Abstract

Pura Besakih is the largest temple in Bali and as Pura Kahyangan Jagat. Pura Kahyangan Jagat is a place of worship for Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa and all of His manifestations. Pura Kahyangan Jagat is a general temple, meaning that everyone can pray at the temple to ask for safety/mercy, welfare, and shade in the universe. Pura Pura Besakih as a tourist attraction has an impact on a shift in values and meaning, at the beginning of its establishment, Pura Besakih was a sacred temple, full of religious-magical values, but seen from the use of Pura Besakih as a tourist attraction that has attracted foreign tourists to visit to Pura Besakih. The method used is a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of observation and literature. There has been a change in the views and mindsets of the community and local government to take advantage of the Hindu spiritual cultural heritage into the form of economic values. Pura Besakih as an element of the wealth of Hindu spiritual culture that is preserved and observed by the community is commercialized for tourism purposes by utilizing Pura Besakih as a tourist attraction. These problems have caused the sacred and religious values of Pura Besakih to experience secularization. Global culture with its ideology of freedom, may not recognize the rules for menstruation (menstruation) or cuntaka because there are deaths (according to village regulations, kala, patra that apply in the local area) to enter temples due to customary rules / awig-awig, this can cause Hindus feel uncomfortable when praying in temples.
