Abstract

From 2021 to 2023, national soybean production has generally decreased due to shrinking cultivation areas. This study aimed to evaluate soybean productivity by applying biochar and regulating water volume. The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse of the Kuningan Soil Laboratory in April–November 2022 using a two-factor Complete Group Randomized Design; the first factor was the biochar dose (0, 10, 15, and 20 tons/ha), and the second factor was the water volume (50% (600 mL), 100% (1200 mL), and 125% (1800 mL). The physical parameters observed were moisture content and texture. The chemical parameters observed include pH, C-organic, cation exchange capacity (CEC), base cations (Ca, Mg, K, Na), N-total, P-total, and P-available. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test to compare between treatments. The results showed that applying biochar with a dose of 20 tons/ha and 100% water volume can significantly improve soil chemical properties. pH, CEC, Ca-available, Mg-available, K-available, N-available, P-total, P-available, and N-total are markedly affected by the correct biochar dose and water volume. The more applications of biochar, the better the chemical properties of the soil. The provision of water according to needs will increase the availability of nutrients for plants. Keywords: biochar, phosphorous, irrigation, soybean

Abstract

Developing strategic land use issues into agrotourism is increasingly prevalent in Batu City. This condition raises various kinds of farmers' perceptions about who feels the benefits of the presence of tourism. Various backgrounds make these differences in perception even more visible. This study aims to analyze the influence of farmers' characteristics on their perceptions of developing "Bon Deso" agrotourism in Tulungrejo Village, Batu City. The location of the study was determined deliberately with consideration for agrotourism activities. "Bon Deso" is located in the village. This study used quantitative survey methods with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and instruments. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The population was 646, with a sample of 87 farmers obtained by calculating the Slovin formula. A simple random technique determined the sample. The results of this study show that characteristic variables simultaneously affect perception. The characteristic sub-variables that affect perception are age, length of formal education, farming experience, and land area. Characteristic sub-variables that do not influence perception are non-formal education and primary income. This finding could be used as a reference for agrotourism managers in determining programs that suit farmers. It is hoped that the presence of a program will get support and participation from farmers to maximize the development of "Bon Deso" Agrotourism. Abstract

Cantang grouper (Epinephelus sp.) is a fish with a high economic value and has been widely cultivated. VNN disase, caused by Betanodavirus infection, can lead to mass mortality of cantang grouper. Precautions considered effective in preventing Viral nervous necrosis (VNN) disease include vaccination. This study aimed to determine the effect of administering recombinant Chlorella vulgaris protein nanovaccine based on chitosan hybrid nanoparticles in increasing the immune response of cantang grouper infected with VNN. The study consisted of five treatments: K+ (cantang grouper infected with VNN), K- (healthy cantang grouper), T1 (healthy cantang grouper given 33 µl of nanovaccine and then challenged with VNN), T2 (healthy cantang grouper given 66 µl of nanovaccine and then tested with a VNN challenge), and T3 (healthy cantang grouper given 112 µl of nanovaccine and then tested with a VNN challenge). The parameters observed were haematology, nanovaccine Relative percent survival (RPS), and Survival rate (SR) levels. The study results showed that administering the nanovaccine increased the immune response of the fish, as indicated by an increase in haematology response, RPS, and SR in cantang grouper compared to the treatment without nanovaccine administration. The best dose of nanovaccine in this study is 33 µl. Keywords: fish disease, nanovaccines, virus, C. vulgaris, grouper

Abstract

Potato is one of the horticultural crops with high economic value and potential as an export commodity. The productivity of potatoes in Central Java tends to decrease, and it is suspected that the use of production inputs is not optimal. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the use of production inputs, the factors that influence potato production, and the optimization of the use of production inputs in potato farming in the Dieng Plateau. The research was conducted from October to December 2021 in Sumberejo Village, Batur Subdistrict, Banjarnegara District, which has an altitude of + 1700 meters above sea level. This research used a survey method on 30 potato farmers. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively, and analyzed the factors that influence production using multiple linear regression, followed by an optimization test on the use of production inputs. The results showed that the use of production inputs among farmers still varied and had not followed the results of soil analysis. Seed, manure, and labor are production inputs that have a significant positive effect on potato production. To get maximum production, farmers need to add seeds, NPK fertilizer, and manure according to recommendations, while the use of labor needs to be reduced to achieve optimal yields. Abstract

The use of relatively high doses of inorganic fertilizers to increase yields in plantation-scale pineapple (Ananas comosus) cultivation can lead to new problems, such as being toxic to plants, polluting the environment, and increasing production costs. The utilization of rhizosphere microbes, such as potassium solubilizing bacteria (KSB) is expected can reduce the dose of inorganic K fertilizer application because it can dissolve potassium-fixed Al and Fe soil so that it is available to plants. This study aims to assess and characterize the potential of BPK in pineapple plantation areas. KSB evaluation was carried out based on the Potassium Solubility Index (IKK), besides that, it also carried out the characterization of bacteria that have the potential as CPC isolates. CPC was isolated from planting blocks with low and high production levels in the vegetative (V) and generative (G) phases with 5 replications. As many as 20 isolates from the CPC population on pineapple plantations were successfully isolated in this study. The lowest K solubility index of 0.6 was obtained in isolate RV1 and the highest, namely 1.2 in isolate RG1. Among these isolates, RG1 is Gram-positive and grows optimally at pH 5, temperature 30°C. Based on the results of the phylogenetic analysis, it is known that this potassium solubilizing isolate has the same level of similarity with the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. Abstract

Every year, West Java Province becomes the third largest rice-producing province in Indonesia, with a production of 9.43 million tons in 2022. However, this condition is inversely proportional to the welfare of food crop farmers when viewed from the exchange rate of food crop farmers (NTPTP), which in the last two years has been below 100%. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of rice crop production, rice crop productivity, the selling price of dry milled grain, production costs, and additional capital on NTPTP in West Java. Secondary data were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Directorate General of Food Crops, Ministry of Agriculture, from 2010–2022. Multiple linear regression analysis is used to examine the determinants of the welfare of food crop farmers. The findings of this study show that the selling price of dry-milled grain has a significant effect on increasing NTPTP. In contrast, rice crop production, productivity, production costs, and capital increases are not. The selling price of dry-milled grain influences the welfare of food crop farmers in West Java. Government policymakers can use this study in the agricultural sector to overcome the high expenditure of farmers' production costs by providing subsidies on target and maintaining the cost of goods sold for rice for the welfare of farmers in West Java. Keywords: price of dry grain, exchange rate of food crop farmers, paddy production, paddy productivity, multiple linear regression

Abstract

Collagen derived from the eggshell membrane, is an increasingly popular functional material. Native chicken is one of the leading local commodities whose industrial waste has the potential to be used as collagen raw material. This study aimed to evaluate the nutrients and morphology of the eggshell membrane of native chicken eggs as raw material for collagen production. The parameters observed were morphology using electron scanning microscopy, mineral composition, and collagen nutrient content (water and protein). SEM observations showed that the eggshell membrane of native chicken eggs was fibrous. The meshed fiber form represents the extracellular matrix present in collagen proteins. The eggshell membrane contains Cl, K, Ca, P, and Mg macrominerals at 1.696%, 1.796%, 14.30%, 0.437%, and 0.146%, respectively. Microminerals I and Mo were also found at 0.00034% and 0.00014%, respectively. The moisture content of the superior native chicken eggshell membrane decreased by 13.05% after the collagen extraction (p<0.05), with a crude protein content of 25.32% after the extraction. It was concluded that the eggshell membrane of native chicken eggs produces fibrous morphological characteristics that are meshed and contain high minerals so that they have the potential to be used as raw materials for collagen production in various applications.
