Abstract

The low learning outcomes of grade IV students at SD Negeri Gedongombo 1 on the solar system topic are presumed to be related to the limited availability of concrete and interactive learning media. This condition underscores the need for innovative instructional materials capable of bridging the gap between abstract astronomical concepts and the cognitive capacity of grade IV students, who remain at the concrete-operational stage. This study aims to examine the validity of three-dimensional pop-up book media on the solar system topic as an IPAS (natural and social science) learning medium for grade IV. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method at the product-validation stage, using descriptive quantitative analysis based on assessments from three independent validators (a language expert, a content expert, and a media expert) using a 1-5 Likert-scale instrument. The language expert validation yielded 100% (Very Valid), the content expert 94% (Very Valid), and the media expert 96% (Very Valid), with an overall average of 96.7%. All three validators confirmed the media is feasible for use without substantial revision. Because this study is limited to the expert-validation stage, claims regarding actual improvement of student learning outcomes require further testing through practicality and effectiveness trials involving students.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low student learning outcomes regarding the topics of Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) and Least Common Multiple (LCM), a result of the limited use of engaging and interactive learning media. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Tapak Gunung learning media based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in teaching GCD and LCM to fourth grade elementary school students. This research is part of a broader Research and Development (R&D) project for the Tapak Gunung learning media. This article focuses on the media effectiveness testing phase, employing a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 32 fourth-grade students from SDN 1 Nglaban, selected using a total sampling technique. The effectiveness test was conducted in two stages: a limited trial involving 9 students and an extensive trial involving 23 students. Data were analyzed using classical learning mastery, N-Gain scores, normality tests, and paired-sample t-tests. The research instrument was a learning achievement test validated by subject matter and instructional experts. The results showed that classical learning mastery reached 88.8% in the limited trial and rose to 100% in the extensive trial. The average pretest score of 65.78 increased to 92.21 in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.77, falling into the high category. The paired-sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. Thus, the PBL-based Tapak Gunung learning media proved effective in improving the learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students regarding GCD and LCM. This medium can serve as an alternative for elementary school teachers to create mathematics instruction that is more active, engaging, and meaningful.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum promotes contextual learning through the use of local culture as part of the learning process. However, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum that integrates Banjar culture to enhance elementary students' environmental awareness still requires further investigation. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Banjar culture-based Merdeka Curriculum in enhancing the environmental awareness of fourth-grade students at SDN Murung Raya 5. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with a purposively selected classroom teacher and documentation of the interview process. The findings show that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum was supported by the development of flexible teaching modules, the use of digital media such as Smart TVs and projectors, and diverse learning strategies to accommodate the needs of students with special educational needs. The integration of Banjar local wisdom was implemented through local language learning, the creation of traditional rhymes and poetry, and local food programs. Meanwhile, students' environmental awareness was developed through practical habituation programs, including Clean Saturday, Healthy Saturday, and waste-sorting habits. The findings imply that the use of local culture in learning can serve as a relevant strategy to support the strengthening of character education and environmental education in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of character-based digital comic media on students' learning outcomes in Pancasila Education, particularly on the topic of the values of the first principle of Pancasila, among fifth-grade students at SDN Buncitan. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 50 fifth-grade students, divided into an experimental group (n = 25) and a control group (n = 25). Data were collected using a validated multiple-choice learning achievement test. Data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene's test for homogeneity, and the paired-samples t-test at a significance level of 5%. The results indicated that the mean score of the experimental group increased from 71.40 in the pretest to 86.60 in the posttest, while the control group increased from 67.20 to 71.20. The paired-samples t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < .05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in learning outcomes in both groups after the learning process. However, the experimental group demonstrated a greater improvement than the control group. These findings suggest that character-based digital comic media has the potential to support the improvement of elementary school students' learning outcomes in Pancasila Education.

Abstract

Critical thinking is an essential competency that elementary school students need to develop in science learning. However, teacher-centered instructional practices often limit students' opportunities to actively engage in critical thinking. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Canva on the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in the topic Indonesia's Biodiversity. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 50 fifth-grade students at SDN Ngagel Rejo I/396 Surabaya, divided into an experimental class and a control class, with 25 students in each group. Data were collected through an essay-based critical thinking test and analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and the Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the experimental class achieved a higher mean posttest score (76.00) than the control class (58.60). Furthermore, the Independent Samples t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Canva had a significant positive effect on students' critical thinking skills in elementary science learning.
