Abstract

Background: Physical activity is any body movement that generates energy to do it. Elderly due to degenerative, there will be a decrease in cognitive function, namely mental processes in obtaining knowledge or abilities and intelligence, including ways of thinking, and memory. This decrease in cognitive function is a normal condition experienced by the elderly with increasing age. This lack in cognitive function can be inhibited by taking preventive measures by increasing physical activity. Objective: To determine the relationship between physical activity of older adults (60-74 years) and cognitive function.Method: The design of this research is descriptive-analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique using cluster sampling is done by interview and questionnaire. The number of samples is 60 elderly respondents. Results: This study was dominated by male elderly aged 60-74 years, unemployed, who had elementary and junior high school education, and had chronic diseases. The results showed that there was a relationship between physical activity in the elderly (60-74 years old) with cognitive function (p = 0.01; = 0.05).Conclusion: It is expected to be a reference for one of the efforts to prevent cognitive decrease by increasing physical activity in the form of physical exercise, then a study can be conducted on the intensity, duration, frequency, and type of physical exercise that is best for improving the cognitive function of the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Transmission of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is strongly influenced by the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae. The most effective method for tackling DHF is by killing the presence of Aedes aegypti larvae. Reducing the negative impact of using chemical larvicides can be done through a safer alternative model, namely natural larvicides from plants. The plant studied with a characteristic ability to kill Aedes aegypti larvae is papaya leaves. Papaya leaf extract contains compounds of alkaloids, flavonoids, papain, saponins, tannins, and papain, which can kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya Linn) and the effect of concentration as Aedes aegypti larvicide.Method: The design used in this study was experimental, using 240 Aedes aegypti larvae, three treatments, and three repetitions. The research was carried out at the Laboratory of the Environmental Health Department of Aceh Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health in 2021. The data was collected through observations every 1 hour for the first 3 hours. The analysis used was the One Way Anova statistical test and continued with the Least Significance Different (LSD) test at 95% CI.Results: The results showed that the average mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae was at a concentration of 10% (10), a concentration of 20% (13), and a concentration of 30% (16). The results of the Anova test showed that giving papaya leaf extract affected the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae (p = 0.000). The most effective concentrations in killing Aedes aegypti larvae were 20% and 30%.Conclusion: Papaya leaf extract was very effective as a larvacide of Aedes aegypti, and it was found that concentrations of 20% and 30% were the best formulas for larvicides.

Abstract

Background: Midwives are the health professionals responsible for educating the public and recognizing nutritional issues in infants. The use of the MUAC scale is a straightforward and highly sensitive approach for detecting nutritional problems in toddlers. The use of the MUAC scale for toddlers is anticipated to provide an independent technique for detecting nutritional abnormalities in toddlers, particularly malnutrition. Objective: To describe the knowledge of midwives in Aceh Province on the detection of severely underweight and underweight using anthropometric indicators and the usage of the MUAC scale for toddlers.Method: This research is a cross-sectional examination of a program's effectiveness. This study's sample consisted of 553 community health center/village midwives from the Aceh province. The knowledge of midwives was assessed via a questionnaire administered following the "National Nutrition Day Webinar: Preventing child mortality through early detection of nutritional issues" presentation. Data processing begins with the processes of editing, coding, and cleansing. The analysis of data was performed univariately. Results: Results indicated that the community health center/village midwives' ability to diagnose growth abnormalities in children under the age of five fell into three categories: moderate (68.0%), good (14.1%), and very good (17.9%). In addition, more than 50% of community health center/village midwives are aware of the function of the MUAC scale (severely underweight if the MUAC < 11.5 cm), but more than 50% are unaware of the criterion for malnourished children (if they meet one of the criteria). Indicators, specifically WHZ index < -3 SD; MUAC < 11.5 cm, and the presence of edema. Conclusion: The midwives are more adept at identifying malnutrition and undernutrition in children under five than anthropometrists are at doing so.

Abstract

Background: Quality of Life is an assessment of the quality of life based on four domains, namely physical health, psychological conditions, social relationships, and the environment. The Healthy Living Community Movement (called GERMAS) focuses on physical activity, and regular health checks to improve quality of life, increase productivity, and lower health care costs. Objective: This study aims to see how effective the body composition health examination model is at increasing physical activity and quality of life in the elderly.Method: This quantitative research design is a quasi-experimental study conducted in Ulee Kareng District, Banda Aceh, in 2018. The sample, namely the elderly, was taken non-randomly, as many as 54 people. Data was collected by means of interviews and anthropometric measurements. The data is processed through the stages of editing, coding, tabulating, and cleaning. The analysis used a statistical with dependent t-test at 95% CI.Results: There is a difference in domain I (first), namely the physical health of the elderly, between the results of the pre-test (63.6 ± 15.248) and the results of the post-test (65.7 ± 14.872) with a p-value = 0.021 (p < 0.05). On the other hand, in domains II, III, and IV, there was no difference in the physical health of the elderly before and after the measurement (p > 0.05).Conclusion: Health examination through measuring body fitness affects the physical health of the elderly in domain I (first) but does not affect domains II, III, and IV.
