Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of implementing the Guided Discovery Learning model in improving student learning achievements within the Fundamentals of Electrical Power course for tenth-grade learners specializing in Electrical Power Installation at a vocational high school in Padang, Indonesia. The research adopts a quantitative methodology featuring a one-group pretest-posttest design, where participants engaged with a validated multiple-choice assessment tool confirmed reliable via product-moment correlation and internal consistency checks. Descriptive statistics, normalized gain calculations, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and effect size analysis were applied to evaluate improvements. Findings reveal a marked enhancement in post-intervention scores compared to initial assessments, with normalized gains predominantly falling into moderate categories, alongside a subset achieving higher levels and a smaller portion showing lower progress. The Wilcoxon test indicates statistically significant differences between pre- and post-scores, while the effect size points to a substantial influence. These results affirm that Guided Discovery Learning effectively bolsters conceptual understanding of electrical principles, fosters active engagement, reduces learning disparities among vocational students, and promotes a more equitable classroom dynamic. Consequently, this student-centered approach is recommended as a viable alternative to traditional teacher-led methods in vocational settings, particularly for technical subjects like electrical fundamentals, to better align education with industry demands and enhance practical problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing Kahoot-based learning media on student learning outcomes in the Basic Electrical Engineering course for Grade X Electrical Power Installation Engineering (TITL) students at SMKN 2 Sungai Penuh. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design—specifically, a pretest-posttest control group design—was employed. The research involved two groups: an experimental class (N = 15) that received interactive Kahoot-based instruction, and a control class (N = 20) that followed conventional teaching methods. Data were collected using multiple-choice learning achievement tests administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the intervention. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and inferential tests, namely the normality test, the homogeneity test, and the independent samples t-test. Results showed a significant increase in the experimental group’s posttest mean score (70.2) compared to the control group (38.5). The hypothesis test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant positive effect of Kahoot on student learning outcomes. These findings suggest that Kahoot is an effective interactive learning medium for enhancing students’ conceptual understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals in vocational education settings.

Abstract

Learning Electrical Lighting Installation (IPL) at Vocational High Schools (SMK) requires a combination of practical skills and theoretical understanding. However, the learning process is dominated by conventional media, which does not support interactive and independent learning. With the advancement of digital technology, Google Sites may be an effective educational platform due to its ability to combine materials, project-based learning activities, and multimedia. The objective of this study is to synthesize research findings on learning electrical lighting installation using Google Sites media. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on the PRISMA guidelines was conducted for the research, encompassing phases such as identification, screening, eligibility, and ultimate selection. Literature searches were conducted through Google Scholar, SINTA, and educational journal databases with publications ranging from 2021 to 2025. The final selection yielded nine relevant articles, which were analyzed based on the variables of student response and learning outcomes. The results of the study indicate that employing Google Sites in education, particularly when combined with interactive learning approaches like project-based and discovery learning, can enhance student engagement, drive comprehension of concepts, and improve academic performance. Thus, Google Sites can be recommended as an effective alternative digital learning medium to support the teaching of electrical lighting installation in vocational schools.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of industrial automation requires vocational education institutions to provide laboratory facilities relevant to modern manufacturing needs. However, practical learning in Industrial Control Systems courses within the Vocational Electrical Engineering Education study program currently remains abstract due to the absence of real physical conveyor components. This study aims to develop a learning medium in the form of an item-sorting conveyor trainer based on the Siemens S7-1200 PLC, integrated with structured jobsheets. The research method employed is Research and Development (R&D) using the Four-D (4D) development model. The feasibility of the medium was evaluated through instrument validation, material expert validation, media expert validation, and student user-response trials. The results indicate that the conveyor trainer is highly feasible, achieving a material expert validation score of 85%, a media expert score of 83%, and a positive student response rate of 56.5%. The advantage of this device lies in its use of a global standard PLC and the integration of three distinct sensor types for object sorting. Consequently, this learning medium successfully bridges the gap between theory and practice, equipping students with direct practical skills aligned with the modern industrial ecosystem.
