Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety has been studied as the common finding in preoperative patients.  For the most recent, nursing interventions aim to reduce anxiety were rely on counseling method. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of counseling applied thinking, feeling dan acting (TFA) on the level of anxiety in appendicitis pre-operative patients. Method: This study was a Pre experimental one Group Pre-Test and Post Test Design. An Accidental Sampling, was applied to recruit 34 respondents. Data collection using the Anxiety Questionnaire The-Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) for pretest before treatment with TFA and Post Test after the TFA approach counseling treatment. Data analysis using Statistical Test Paired Sample T-Test to determine the effectiveness of counseling with the TFA approach on reducing anxiety in appendicitis pre-operative patients.   Results: Counseling by approach TFA on the level of anxiety in patients with pre-operation appendicitis with value p=0.000 or p < 0.05 which means it effectively reduces anxiety levels. Counseling applied thinking, feeling, and acting (TFA) effectively reduced the anxiety level of appendicitis pre-operative patients. Conclusions: Counseling with approach TFA on the level of anxiety in preoperative patients with appendicitis. Patients were able to express their feelings properly, have more rational thinking and prioritize useful actions so that anxiety can be reduced or even eliminated. Further studies should provide a comprehensive assessment of mechanisms anxiety realising in appendicitis pre-operative patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Nurses, in carrying out their daily duties, deal directly with medical personnel and the patients they handle. There is a demand to provide health services responsibly by applying treatment according to procedures. Collaborative relationships between doctors and nurses are often a complex problem. Nurses work on delegation of authority (delegation, mandate, and other authorities). This act of delegation of authority affects nurse job satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the delegation of authority for medical action from doctors to nurses with the job satisfaction of nurses. Methods: A quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach was applied to this study. The sample size was calculated through appendicitis pre-operative cases and 60 nurses were involved. Data was collected by self-report study and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: There is a relationship between the delegation of authority and nurse job satisfaction, delegation (0.000), mandate (0.015), and other authorities (0.000). The process of delegation is more on carrying out doctor's orders or instructions written on the patient's status or medical record. Conclusions: There is an appropriate delegation of authority relationship. This is proven by the process of delegating authority; Hospitals did not apply a standard report on delegation. Nurses' job satisfaction was related to service fees that were also shared with doctors. Re-socialize the delegation process, hospitals need to provide delegation standard reports. This strategy might legally support nurses for their independent, collaborative interventions, and nurse's authority as well.

Abstract

Introduction: Work engagement for nurses is needed to increase dedication so that health organizations run effectively and efficiently. Self-efficacy and optimism are components of personal resources that can predict work engagement. This research aims to see the contribution of the role of self-efficacy and optimism to nurses' work engagement. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. A cluster sampling technique was used to recruit 130 nurses.  Data on self-efficacy, optimism, and nurse work engagement were collected by questionnaire, and analyzed by logistic regression techniques. Results: Self-efficacy and optimism in nurses had a significant effect on nurse work engagement with the sig values 0.011 and 0.000. These make nurses more persistent, enthusiastic, and focused at work. Conclusions: Nurses who have high self-efficacy are always confident in their abilities. Likewise, nurses who have high optimism tend to be more confident and have high persistence at work, so that work engagement will be formed well. Future studies should place greater emphasis on exploring new nurse's self-efficacy and optimism.

Abstract

Introduction: Quality of nursing work life (QNWL) is the satisfaction of nurses with personal and organizational life, which is gained through working experience to achieve organizational goals. Low QNWL might result in a high willingness to move to another ward or other departments. This study aimed to identify the dimension and quality of nursing work life in the inpatient ward. Methods: This study was quantitative descriptive, and the population in this study were nurses who worked in the inpatient ward, as much 146 respondents. Total sampling technique used in this study. The data were self-reported and analyzed using univariate tests. Results: The results also showed that most respondents (96.6%) had a good quality of nursing work life. The dimensions of work life/ home life have a good category (97.9% of respondents). Most of the work design dimension respondents are in a good category (79.7% of respondents). In the work context dimension, almost all respondents were in a good category as much as 97.9%. Meanwhile, in the work world dimension, 85.6% of respondents were in the good category. Conclusions: The results of the study obtained an overview of the QNWL in a private hospital in western Indonesia.  Almost all respondents reported the QNWL was in a good category. This study underlines the highest dimension of QNWL, the strongest impact on job satisfaction. Future researchers can identify the quality of work life of nurses in a wider scope in other clinical settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Patient density in the emergency room (ER) is a worldwide phenomenon and a major health-care issue. Because of the high degree of patient severity and the dynamic workflow, treating patients in the ER is frequently delayed. But, determining the need for nurses in the ER is difficult since patients arrive at random, including several complex situations, the quantity of patients, and the length of stay shifting greatly. This study aims to assess the emergency nursing staff need by determining the nurses' workload and patient dependency level in emergency room of the hospital using the baseline emergency staffing tool (BEST). Methods: A prospective observational research design was used in this study. A consecutive sample of 101 nurses selected in seven-day period in emergency department. The research was carried out in two government general hospitals situated in the provinces of Central Java and East Java. The BEST was used to estimate nursing staff requirement in emergency department and patient dependency was assessed using the Jones Dependency Tool (JDT). Results: Calculation of staff requirements in the ER of the first hospital has an average of 16 nurses, while the second hospital has an average of 30 people. The staffing challenges faced by these hospitals are significant, with a discrepancy of 3 nurses and 14 individuals in the ER. Based on the official hours, the highest number of staff needed in the evening and night while the relatively low number is in the morning. Conclusions: This gap in staffing might have an effect on how patient's outcomes and poses potential risks. To maintain the greatest standard of service, it is critical to account for changes in patient volume and alter staffing levels accordingly

Abstract

Introduction: Diet compliance remains a major issue in the management of hypertension. To the most recent, face to face and telenursing interventions were implemented in hypertension management. However, the impact of telenursing on diet compliance remains unknown. This study aims to determine the impact of telenursing on diet compliance and blood pressure of patients with hypertension. Methods: A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest without a Control Group was applied in this study. A purposive sampling technique was applied, and 30 individuals were selected. Data were analysis with inferential statistics McNemar test and the Paired Sample T-test. Results: There was an increase in hypertension patients' dietary compliance after telenursing intervention, from 6.7% to 100%. Additionally, there was a decrease in the average systolic blood pressure from 156.8 mmHg to 145.3 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure from 105 mmHg to 94.3 mmHg. There is an influence of Telenursing on improving dietary compliance and reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients, with respective p-value <0.001. Conclusions Telenursing positively impacts on the diet compliance and blood pressure of patients with hypertension. Further research on telenursing development and innovation was warranty.

Abstract

Introduction: The clinical education program offers students a chance to gain practical experience, enabling them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to provide safe and effective nursing care. However, During COVID-19, modifying clinical education programs is essential to ensure continuity of nursing training while adapting to safety protocols and limitations on in-person interactions.  This study aims to investigate how educational institutions modify and innovate nursing clinical education during pandemic situation. Method: The study employed a descriptive exploratory design. The informants included ten mentors from various nursing education institutions in Indonesia who guide professional nursing students. The data were collected through in-depth, unstructured video call interviews. The data were collected through in-depth, unstructured video call interviews.  Data analysis was conducted using content analysis. Results: The research found themes with 15 subthemes. These themes are: 1) learning constrain, 2) student challenges, 3) clinical educator challenges, 4) teaching and learning opportunities. Conclusions: Professional education processes during a pandemic require better preparation in developing educational content, mastering various information technologies to support enhanced learning and the periodic evaluation of student competencies. This evaluation is necessary to ensure that students achieve the minimum competencies set by professional organizations.

Abstract

Introduction: The toddler years are a golden period for growth and development. One effort that parents can make to help improve the quality of their baby's sleep is by doing massage. Babies who get a massage will be able to sleep soundly, so that when they wake up their concentration is full. This study aims to prove whether there is a difference in quality of sleep among babies aged 3-12 months before and after a baby massage’s at Muhammadiyah Gresik Hospital, Indonesia Methods: This research used a Pre-Experimental Design One Group Pre-Post Test Design using a sample of 34 subjects selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data instrument is in the form of an observation sheet before and after the massage. The variable measured in this study was improving the quality of the baby's sleep. Wilcoxon sign rank test analysis obtained a p value = 0.000. Results: In babies aged 3-12 months before the baby massage was carried out, the results showed that the majority of babies experienced good quality sleep, 18 (53%) babies, and after the massage, the majority of babies experienced good quality sleep, 25 (74%) babies. Conclusions: There are differences in quality of sleep among babies aged 3-12 months before and after baby massage in the baby massage class at Muhammadiyah Gresik Hospital, Indonesia. The importance of the influence of sleep on infant development because sleep is a physiological process that alternates with longer periods of wakefulness. Sleep has enormous benefits for their growth and development and optimizes their brain development, because sleep activity is one of the stimuli for the process of brain growth and development. Further research involves a larger number of samples is highly suggested.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic renal failure (CRF) is a terminal condition. For decades, hemodialysis has become a chosen treatment for CRF patients to keep alive. Nevertheless. anxiety associated with the disease remains a major concern among this particular population. Therefore, spiritual therapy is given reduce the level of anxiety. This literature review aims to explore the benefits of spiritual therapies: reading and listening to prayers, supportive education, and counseling. Methods: In this study the authors used the Literature Review method. Data collection methods with electronic databases are carried out through Spinger Link, PubMed, and ProQuest. Data were obtained from January 2022 to May 2022, included articles were full-text primary research, focused on spirituality support in CRF patients with Hemodialysis, within the publication period of 2017-2024. Exclusion criteria details are available in the full manuscript. To address the potential limitations introduced by language bias, only English and Indonesian-language publications were included. Instruments to assess the success of spiritual support in chronic renal failure patients with hemodialysis consist of the Daily Spiritual Experiences Questionnaire (DSES), HADS, CES-D: Epidemiologist Study Center Depression Scale, SWBS (Spirituality Well Being Scale) DUREL, Interview, RSC-brief, Questionnaire and Physical Symptom Distress Scale, PSQI Chinese version, Geriatric Depression Scale and Spiritual Well-Being Scale. Results: Ten (n= 10) articles were retrieved. Those described the benefits of spiritual therapies: reading and listening to prayers, supportive education and counseling. The level of anxiety among hemodialysis patients decrease after the treatments were given. The single and whole treatment can be applied daily, and no negatives of treatments were reported. Conclusions: Spiritual support positively reduce anxiety in patients with CRF with hemodialysis. Nurse is highly recommended to include spiritual education, counseling, listening to prayers, and reading prayers in anxiety associated with hemodialysis management in to nursing care plan.  Further research examining the effect of spiritual treatment for patients in their early living with hemodialysis and those with long life span is necessary.

Abstract

Introduction: The workload is a discrepancy between a worker's capacity or capability and the demands of the job that must be performed. An evenly distributed workload should be able to minimize the level of job-related stress among staff nurses in the hospital. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between workload and stress levels among nurses in the Inpatient Ward of secondary health service in Indonesia. Methods: This research employs a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used in this study is probability sampling with a simple random sampling technique, where samples were selected randomly without considering strata within the population, which consists of 64 staff nurses working in the Inpatient Wards of Class II and Class III. Collecting data was took place in a secondary health service; Oto Iskandar Di Nata District Hospital Soreang, Bandung, Indonesia. The NASA-TLX (Task Load Index) questionnaire is utilized to measure workload, while the DASS-21 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21) questionnaire is used to assess the stress levels among nurses. The statistical test in this study used the Chi Square test to determine the correlation between variables. Results: A total of 21 nurses (32.8%) experienced severe stress and 18 nurses (28.1%) had a heavy workload. The data analysis using the Chi-Square statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.001, which is less than the alpha level (α = 0.05) that indicate a relationship between workload and stress levels among staff nurses in the Inpatient Wards of Oto Iskandar Di Nata District Hospital Soreang Bandung, Indonesia. Conclusions: The workload has a strong correlation with stress levels among staff nurses in the Inpatient Wards of Oto Iskandar Di Nata District Hospital Soreang, Bandung, Indonesia. Further study for analyze other factors which has more influence to stress levels among nurses in the Inpatient settings is needed.
