Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlations among English learning motivation, learning styles, and English mastery of senior high school students taking an English course in Palembang. In this correlational study, the data were collected through test and questionnaires. English learning motivation questionnaire, learning styles questionnaire, and English test were administered to 102 senior high school students taking an English course in Palembang. The data were analyzed by using correlational and regression analyses. The results showed that there were no significant correlations between English learning motivation and English mastery, between learning styles and English mastery, and between predictor variables and criterion variable . However, further calculation using multiple regression analysis showed that the contribution of instrumental motivation was 6.4 %. It implied that there was a little contribution of English learning motivation to students’ English mastery. On the other hand, the results showed that none of the aspects of learning styles significantly contributed to English mastery. Keywords:English learning motivation, learning styles, English mastery

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to explain the kind of media and the advantages and disadvantages of media the process of teaching speaking at Senior High School 1 Gegesik Cirebon. This research used a qualitative method using descriptive qualitative. The instrument of this research is the researcher herself. To collect the data, the researcher used interviews. Interview technique used to answer the first and second question. The result shows that: (1) Visual material, such as textbooks, auditory media, such as songs, and audiovisual media, such as movies and videos, as well as digital media, such as YouTube, were all used by the teacher. (2) The advantages of using media in teaching and learning speaking are students understand the material easily, make the students interested in the learning process and the students become more active to practice their speaking in the classroom. whereas the disadvantages of using media are noisy class, students feeling shy, and the student’s loss of control.

Abstract

: Learning Community in Learning English Speaking Skills at Junior High School 4 Sungai Lilin. One of the methods that can be applied in an effort to develop students ' ability to speak is learning community (community learning and studying together). Learning community is a concept of creating s hared learning in school, the learning process between teachers and teachers , teachers and students , students with students , and even among the school community with the community outs ide the school. This study aimed to describe the extent to which the effectiveness of the learning community in learning English s peaking s kills high school students of class IX Junior High School 4 Sungai Lilin, measured using deseign research that is an experimental type of pretest-posttest control group design experiments. Furthermore, data were collected using observation and oral tests were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results showed that the learning community is effectively used in improving the s kills of English s peaking high school students of class IX Junior High School 4 Sungai Lilin. It is based on the results of data analysis showed that the average test s peaking s kills of students who take classes that implement the learning in the learning community is higher than the results of the test speaking s kills of students who take the learning in the class room learning community that does not apply.

Abstract

Students who learn English are said to be successful if they can use the language to communicate. Therefore, students are expected to be able to communicate using English fluently. However, in reality students rarely use English even in speaking class. The aim of this study was to describe students’ motivation in English speaking learning using E-Module in fourth semester of English education students at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University. This research was quantitative descriptive method. This research conducted at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University. The sample were 44 students who were determined by using total sampling technique. The research instrument used in the research for collecting the data was a questionnaire. There were 50 statements in the questionnaire, then the score categorized into three categories such as low, medium, and high. The results of the analysis showed that there were 9 students or 20% categorized as low, 30 students or 68% students were categorized as medium, and 5 students or 12% students were categorized as high. It can be concluded that students’ motivation in English speaking learning using E-Module in fourth semester of English education students at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University was medium.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in writing achievement between the students who were taught by using Edmodo application and that of those who were not. The method used in this study was quasi experimental method. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the samples. Therefore, the number of the students was 60 students which divided into two groups. To determine the experimental and control groups, flip of coin was used. Consequently, class IPS 1 was the experimental group while class IPS 2 was be control groups and each of them consisted of 30 students. In collecting the data, the written test essay was administered. To analyze the data, t-test was used. Based on the calculation of the independent sample test, it was found that t-obtained (14.511) was higher than t-table (2.001) and pvalue (0.000) was less than αvalue (0.05). It meant that the null hyphothesis (H0) was rejected and alternative hyphothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there was a significant difference between the students who were taught using Edmodo application and that of those who were not.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to find out whether or not there was significant difference in reading skill between the students who were taught by using Google Classroom and that of those who were not. The method used in this study was quasi experimental method. The sample of this study was 82 students which divided into two groups, namely experimental group (VIII 2) and control group (VIII 5), each of them consisted of 41 students. To collect the data, the written test of reading skill was used in the form multiple-choice was administred. T-test was used to analyze the data. The result of independent t-test was the significant level p<0.05 with df 80, the critical value of t-table = 1.990. Since the value of t-obtained (3.179) was higher than the critical value t-table (1.990), Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It meant that there was a significant difference in reading skill between students who were taught by using Google Classroom and that of those who were not.
