Abstract

Kobakma Village, Mamberamo Tengah Regency, has local agricultural potential in the form of gogo rice, which is utilized by the community as a source of food. However, post-harvest handling still requires support through assistance and product development activities to increase the added value and improve the product identity of the rice. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the community in handling gogo rice products through milling, packaging, and product branding. The implementation method was carried out participatively through direct assistance, demonstrations, training, and practical activities involving the community, students participating in the Community Service Program (KKN), and Field Supervising Lecturers. The stages of the activity included assistance in harvesting gogo rice, milling paddy into rice, packaging the rice into prepared bags or packaging materials, designing and attaching labels as product identities, and training on the use of a sealer to close the packaging. The results showed that the community gained improved knowledge and skills in processing harvested products through to the packaging stage. The use of the sealer produced neater and more securely closed packaging, while branding through labelling provided an identity for the gogo rice product from Kobakma Village. This activity contributed to increasing the added value of local agricultural products and served as an initial step toward developing gogo rice as a potential flagship product of the community. Further follow-up is needed through continuous assistance in improving product quality, developing packaging and branding, and expanding the marketing of local rice products.

Abstract

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in health education and research provides opportunities to support learning and statistical understanding, but also raises concerns regarding information accuracy, data privacy, and academic integrity. This community service program aimed to strengthen statistical literacy and responsible AI use in health research among nutrition students through interactive education. The participants were eight undergraduate students with a nutrition specialization from a health education institution in Jakarta. The activity was conducted online on September 19, 2026, through interactive presentations, practical demonstrations, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions covering statistical literacy, AI-assisted research, prompt formulation, statistical output interpretation, information verification, data privacy, and research integrity. Evaluation used a 12-item questionnaire consisting of eight closed-ended and four open-ended questions. Descriptive and thematic analyses identified four main themes: AI as a learning and research support tool, AI-assisted statistical understanding, awareness of AI-related risks, and human responsibility and critical thinking. Participants recognized AI as useful for understanding statistical concepts, interpreting outputs, searching for information, and supporting research activities, while emphasizing verification, data anonymization, and avoiding excessive dependence on AI. The activity strengthened participants’ conceptual understanding of statistical literacy and responsible AI use in health research.

Abstract

Limited agricultural land and underutilized organic materials remain important challenges for coastal communities in dryland areas. This community service program aimed to strengthen community capacity through the production and application of bokashi fertilizer in Mata Air Village, Kupang Regency, Indonesia. The program was conducted from July to August 2026 in collaboration with the Cemara Sea Turtle Conservation Community Group and involved 35 participants. A participatory community empowerment approach was applied through instruction, demonstration, hands-on practice, technical assistance, product development, and evaluation. Participants’ familiarity with bokashi was assessed orally before and after training using a show-of-hands response, while practical involvement was evaluated through direct observation. Before the activity, 17 of 35 participants (48.6%) were familiar with the basic concept of bokashi, and none had previous hands-on production experience. After training, all 35 participants reported familiarity with bokashi and participated directly in group-based production. The program produced an estimated 3 tons of bokashi, including 100 labelled 10-kg packages. Laboratory analysis showed 35.68% organic carbon, 2.22% total nitrogen, 1.21% P?O?, 1.01% K?O, a pH of 6.81, and a C/N ratio of 16.1. The estimated direct cash cost was approximately IDR 8,997 per 10-kg package, excluding labour and depreciation of reusable assets, while an introductory selling price of IDR 15,000–20,000 was proposed. The program increased participants’ familiarity and practical exposure to bokashi production and established an initial basis for continued community-based production and value-added product development. Further evaluation is required to assess production continuity, economic performance, and the effects of bokashi application on soil properties and crop productivity.

Abstract

The community service program conducted by Universitas Flores in Wolomuku and Djeodua Villages, Ende Regency, aimed to support spring conservation and river ecosystem restoration through a participatory-collaborative approach. The program was implemented as part of the university’s Green University and Kampus Berdampak initiatives, involving the Tana Nua Flores Foundation, village governments, traditional leaders, local communities, and approximately 300 lecturers and educational staff. The activities consisted of environmental problem identification, planning, planting 3,165 productive tree seedlings comprising durian and nutmeg, releasing shrimp juveniles into two rivers at the activity sites, environmental education, literacy and numeracy activities, health services, and monitoring and evaluation. The results demonstrated collaborative efforts in vegetation conservation and aquatic ecosystem restoration, while strengthening the engagement of the academic community and local residents in environmental sustainability. The planting of productive trees provided ecological benefits while offering potential long-term economic benefits for local communities, whereas the release of shrimp juveniles served as an educational medium for promoting awareness of river ecosystem protection. Overall, the program demonstrates that a participatory-collaborative approach can integrate environmental conservation, community empowerment, education, and social services into a comprehensive community service program.
