Abstract

Adolescents, including female Islamic boarding school students, are an age group that is highly vulnerable to nutritional problems, one of which is caused by low levels of physical activity. Nutritional problems can have long-term consequences if not addressed promptly, including an increased risk of various metabolic diseases later in life. Health education is therefore an important strategy to improve adolescents’ knowledge regarding physical activity. This activity aimed to provide health promotion through video-based education to enhance knowledge about the importance of physical activity. The program was conducted among 30 adolescent female students in an Islamic boarding school located in Ogan Ilir Regency. The intervention consisted of a pre-test and post-test assessing knowledge of physical activity using a structured questionnaire, followed by the main activity, which was a health education session delivered through an educational video. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, indicated by an increase in the number of students with good knowledge from 10 students before the intervention to 26 students after the intervention. These findings demonstrate that video-based health education on the importance of physical activity is effective in improving adolescents’ knowledge, particularly among female Islamic boarding school students.

Abstract

Strengthening village economic institutions is essential to sustainably managing local potential. Cooperatives and Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) share the same goal of improving community welfare, yet they often operate in isolation, limiting their potential for synergy. This community service program aimed to enhance the management capacity of BUMDes and the Merah Putih Cooperative through managerial support and the development of a participatory synergy model. The activities were conducted in Maurole Subdistrict, Ende Regency, using lectures and interactive discussions. The results showed improved understanding among administrators in business and financial management, as well as increased awareness of the importance of institutional collaboration. The synergy between BUMDes and cooperatives represents a strategic step toward building an inclusive and sustainable village economy. The program also encouraged administrators to develop more structured and realistic business plans. In addition, participants gained a better understanding of transparency and accountability in financial management. The discussions provided space to share experiences and address existing challenges. The established collaboration is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of village enterprises. With continuous mentoring, village economic institutions can develop more professionally and independently.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve students’ learning outcomes using technology-based learning media, particularly interactive Microsoft PowerPoint, in Biology learning for twelfth-grade students at SMA Adhyaksa Ende. The study was motivated by low student achievement caused by the dominance of teacher-centred lecture methods. The implementation method consisted of preparation and instructional stages. The preparation stage included lesson plan development, curriculum-based material design, and training in the use of technology for creating interactive PowerPoint media. The implementation stage involved presenting cell division material using slides containing text, images, videos, animations, and interactive quizzes. The results indicated an improvement in students’ understanding, as reflected in their ability to restate the material and their increased accuracy in answering evaluation questions. These findings are consistent with previous studies highlighting the effectiveness of interactive PowerPoint in enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. Therefore, systematically and attractively designed PowerPoint media can serve as an innovative alternative to improve the quality of classroom instruction.

Abstract

A comprehensive study of a community service program focusing on ergonomics and occupational safety at the Regional Technical Service Unit (UPTD) for Legal Metrology in Jepara Regency has been done. The primary focus of this study is to mitigate the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) often experienced by metrology officers due to Manual Material Handling (MMH) activities when handling heavy standard test weights (bidur). The background of the program is rooted in the high intensity of physical labor across various consumer environments, such as traditional markets, gas stations, and factories, which frequently overlook basic ergonomic principles. The objective of this program is to educate the implementation team on correct lifting techniques (squat lift), raise awareness of the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions on officer knowledge. The implementation method includes preparation stages, field observation, pre-tests, theoretical material delivery, practical demonstrations, and final evaluation through post-tests and satisfaction questionnaires managed digitally via the Google Forms platform. The results indicate a significant increase in participant understanding by 55.31%, with average knowledge scores rising from 84.67 to 95.4. The discussion explores the relationship between awkward working postures and the potential for occupational accidents, as well as the challenges in building a safety culture within the public sector. The report concludes with the importance of continuous training and the provision of mechanical aids as a long-term solution to maintain the occupational health of metrology officers.

Abstract

Household plastic waste management is a critical environmental issue that requires a comprehensive behaviour-based approach. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of an integrated intervention model optimizing household plastic waste management in RT 34, Manggar Subdistrict, East Balikpapan. The program was designed using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) framework and implemented through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test/post-test design. The intervention consisted of three main components: the provision of innovative two-compartment trash bins, the establishment and operationalization of a waste bank system, and legal and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) education. The study involved 85 households as research participants. Quantitative data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires measuring attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and behavioural intentions, and were analysed using a paired-samples t-test. Secondary data were obtained from waste bank operational records, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically through observation and focus group discussions. The findings indicate statistically significant improvements across all TPB constructs following the intervention. Active community participation reached 88%, with managed plastic waste volume increasing to two-thirds of the bin capacity per month. These results demonstrate that the synergy of physical, institutional, and educational interventions effectively strengthens behavioural intentions and translates them into sustainable waste management practices. This model has strong potential to be replicated in other urban community empowerment initiatives based on circular economic principles.

Abstract

This community service program was initiated in response to the limited utilization of social media as a promotional tool among MSMEs at Pasar Banjar Sumuh, Dauh Puri Kauh Village, despite strong local market potential. The program aimed to enhance brand awareness and digital competencies of MSME actors through the implementation of social media–based hyperlocal marketing strategies. A total of 10 MSMEs were involved in the initial assessment, with 8 businesses (80%) lacking active business accounts and location-based promotional knowledge. The implementation stages included field surveys, interviews, content planning, branding video production, banner installation, and publication through Instagram Reels and TikTok. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test Likert-scale questionnaires, social media engagement metrics, and sales data analysis. The results indicated a 65% increase in digital marketing understanding among participants after mentoring. The published promotional video generated 1,311 views, 73 likes, 8 shares, and 7 comments. In addition, the average number of daily customers increased from 25 to 35 (a 40% increase). The findings demonstrate that community- and location-based video content effectively strengthens brand identity and improves local consumer engagement. In conclusion, hyperlocal marketing strategies significantly enhanced MSME visibility, digital competence, and brand awareness at the local level. Follow-up actions include continuous mentoring, advanced content performance analysis training, and collaborative digital promotion among MSMEs and village stakeholders to ensure sustainability.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve students' literacy culture through library revitalisation and the development of literacy media, including "Reading Tree," a program designed to encourage reading, and "My Reflection Paper," a tool for students to express their thoughts on what they read. The background to this activity stems from low student interest in reading and the library's suboptimal layout. Implementation methods included reorganising the library, grouping books by category, creating visual literacy media, and conducting reading activities that concluded with student reflections. The results of the community service program indicate that the library has become more comfortable, structured, and engaging for students. The implementation of "Reading Tree" generated enthusiasm, as evidenced by the large number of students who attached "leaves" as a token of appreciation for reading. Meanwhile, analysis of "My Reflection Paper" indicates that the program fosters students' metacognition, creativity, and comprehension. Student reflections demonstrate increased enjoyment, curiosity, and the ability to summarise reading content. This program has proven effective in strengthening reading interest and building a sustainable literacy culture.

Abstract

Revitalizing the governance of Islamic philanthropic organizations has become a strategic necessity amid the growing demands for professionalism, transparency, and the sustainability of community empowerment programs. Islamic philanthropic organizations are no longer sufficient to merely implement charity-based services that are consumptive in nature; instead, they need to develop an empowerment mindset as a new paradigm in managing social services oriented toward the empowerment of marginalized communities. This Community Service Program aimed to revitalize the governance of Islamic philanthropic organizations through assistance in developing administrative and service Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for autonomous bodies under the Yatim Mandiri Foundation operating in the fields of National Zakat Institutions (LAZNAS) and waqf management in Indonesia. The implementation method employed a participatory empowerment approach through observation, training, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), SOP drafting assistance, implementation simulations, and program evaluation. The results demonstrated an improvement in administrators’ capacity to understand modern organizational governance, the systematic development of administrative and service SOPs, and increased awareness among administrators of the importance of transforming services from charity-oriented to empowerment-oriented approaches. The assistance program also encouraged the emergence of a more professional, collaborative, and long-term social impact-oriented organizational culture through the strengthening of productive zakat and productive waqf programs. Therefore, revitalizing organizational governance through SOP assistance based on an empowerment mindset not only strengthened the institution’s administrative system but also became a strategic effort to transform the organizational culture of Islamic philanthropy into one that is more adaptive, participatory, and sustainable.

Abstract

Meranti Etam Tourism is a community-based agrotourism and ecotourism area located in North Balikpapan, within the Sungai Manggar Protected Forest zone. The area holds significant ecological functions as a water catchment zone and buffer for the Manggar watershed system, while simultaneously offering potential as a natural tourism destination. However, its management still faces several challenges, including low implementation of Occupational Health and Safety standards, limited awareness of environmental protection regulations, and suboptimal technical planning of tourism infrastructure. This community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of the local community in managing the tourism area based on occupational safety, environmental legal compliance, and sustainable civil engineering principles. The program was implemented through three stages, namely pre-implementation, implementation, and evaluation, employing methods of socialization, training, and technical assistance. Key interventions included workplace hazard identification, development of simple standard operating procedures (SOPs), PPE usage simulation, environmental law counselling, installation of prohibition signage, and technical evaluation of tracking trails, camping areas, and drainage systems. The results demonstrated an increase in community awareness regarding occupational accident risks, the importance of PPE usage, and a better understanding of prohibitions against environmental destruction and protected forest regulations. The multidisciplinary approach integrating legal and civil engineering aspects proved effective in promoting ecotourism management that is safe, orderly, and sustainable.
