Abstract

This research focus on assessing the spatial distribution area of solar energy potential in Pekanbaru using ECMWF ERA5 from 2012-2022 and analysing the environmental, social, and economic aspects based on solar energy utilisation. Using overlay and intersection techniques in ArcGIS, Pekanbaru's average solar energy potential is around 5,0-5,5 kWh/m2, and around 438.227-482.050 MWh/year of photovoltaic energy can be harvested from rooftop photovoltaic installation. Moreover, by utilising rooftop photovoltaic systems, the potential of CO2 emission can be reduced at around ±411.934-453.127 tonCO2/year, and it is predicted to reduce CO2 emission from households in 2022 by up to 52%. On the other hand, a questionnaire is used to describe the level of the community's understanding related to the beneficial effects of solar energy. Based on 100 respondents, it is found that around 58% of people don’t understand or are aware of rooftop photovoltaic, 20% of households think that the system is not necessary or urgently needed, and 22% of respondents argue that the high cost of installation is the primary consideration. The results reveal that the support from local governments is required for developing PV system as this system is one of the possible solutions to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs).

Abstract

Utilization of coastal land in the community of Cemara Labat Village has been passed down from generation to generation. The people of Cemara Labat Village still maintain the tradition of coastal land management, such as planting certain types of mangroves, prohibiting cutting down mangrove forests and hunting animals which are regulated in unwritten customary law or local wisdom. Utilization of coastal area resources by humans from time to time continues to increase. The intensity of exploiting the potential of coastal areas resources often does not pay attention to the carrying capacity and principles of optimal and sustainable use of natural resources. Therefore, the mangrove forest ecosystem in Cemara Labat Village needs to be preserved both ecologically and biologically with an awareness approach to local wisdom. The data collection which used in this research was interview method, observation method, and survey. The results showed that Avicennia marina species had a very high dominance (80%) in the mangrove forest area of Cemara Labat Village, especially in the mangrove forest area, was bird species (Aves), while the level of community participation in mangrove forest conservation was moderate (76%). The strategy of developing community local wisdom on coastal land conservation in Cemara Labat village is in the Strengths-Opportunities or SO strategy, which is quadrant I which means Growth (6.40) or experiencing growth. Some alternative SO (strength opportunities) strategies include :a) Formulate regional policies on mangrove forest management, b) Promote the potential value of mangroves and their development opportunities, c) Improve the role and performance of stakeholders in mangrove forest management, d) Improve people's economy and empower coastal communities.

Abstract

The problem of domestic solid waste has become a national issue, including in Dumai City, as seen in the Landfill (TPA) in Dumai City (Mekar Sari Landfill, South Dumai District). Many and easy domestic solid waste are found in the landfill, which is caused by not being able to be handled considering that 3 sanitary landfills are full and limited human resources, land and tools. This study aims to determine the implementation and constraints, environmental, social and economic impacts of domestic solid waste management in West Dumai District and South Dumai District. The research was conducted in several stages, starting from an initial survey based on field observations and interviews using variables of waste types and sources in West Dumai District and South Dumai District, the volume of waste, the impact on the environment, social and economic, the form of management implementation, and the constraints possessed in the management. This study used non-probability sampling with snowball sampling method in sampling techniques. This method is used in connection with the collection of interview-based information/data, and multilevel questionnaires, ranging from waste producers, management officers to supervisors of domestic waste management in West Dumai District and South Dumai District of Dumai City. Based on the results of the study, domestic solid waste in West Dumai and South Dumai Districts of Dumai City will continue to increase along with the higher volume of waste produced compared to what can be handled by managers (less than 60%) while the obstacles they have cannot be resolved. Suboptimal management of domestic solid waste has a negative impact on the environment in West Dumai and South Dumai Districts. Among them are triggering easy flooding when it rains, to contamination of water sources used by humans. From a social aspect, the comfort of Dumai residents is disturbed, including their daily activities. From an economic point of view, flooding has an impact on income levels (economic aspects). Flooding (tidal) is increasingly routine in West Dumai and South Dumai Districts with an increasingly tight frequency, namely 2 times / month, which is caused by the topography of the area (lower than other areas) and clogged waterways due to garbage carried by the water flow. The suggestion in this study is to propose management collaboration with companies operating in Dumai in supporting the operation of the 3R TPS, such as financing for operators, providing machines, or for facility maintenance.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine coastal dynamics in Indramayu District using the DPSIR method, which is hypothesized to help researchers understand the influence of human actions on land and sea on coastal ecosystems. A descriptive research strategy based on the Driver, Pressures, States, Impact, and Responses (DPSIR) framework was used. Primary data collected through in-depth interviews and observations became the backbone of this research, while secondary data came from affiliated institutions and organizations.Analysis shows that rapid population growth in the Indramayu region has led to a significant increase in land use along the coast. Conversion of mangrove forests into other uses, such as pond cultivation, agriculture, tourist attractions, and settlements, is common when associated with land conversion. Coastal and mangrove ecosystems, air quality and biodiversity are just a few examples of the physical, chemical and biological changes that result from these changes. Apart from reducing fishery yields, impacts such as abrasion and mangrove deforestation reduce the carrying capacity of land and reduce environmental quality. Efforts to increase community participation in island management are carried out to overcome this, including the construction of breakwaters, mangrove rehabilitation, socialization of the community regarding sustainable fisheries, as well as increasing the value of fishery products and mangrove ecosystem services. Minimize environmental impact and stay small
