Abstract

Purpose −  Social inequality refers to conditions of inequality of access, opportunity and utilization of resources between community groups. This phenomenon can be seen in differences in income, quality of education, infrastructure development, and legal treatment. That issue is also a structural issue in India, a country that still faces sharp inequalities between social classes, rural and urban areas, and powerful groups and marginalized communities. Film media has a strategic role as a means of representing social reality, because it is able to convey critical messages visually and narratively. The Indian biographical film “12th Fail” by Vidhu Vinod Chopra has become an object of study because it tells the story of the struggle of the character Manoj from a poor family in facing an unequal social system. Method − Descriptive qualitative research methods are applied through Roland Barthes' semiotics approach, including denotation, connotation and myth analysis. Primary data are sourced from scenes and film dialogue, while secondary data are from relevant scientific literature. Findings − The results showed four main forms of social inequality, including inequalities in quality and educational facilities, socioeconomic status inequalities, rural and municipal infrastructure inequalities and legal justice inequalities. The representation shows how social systems tend to favour the powerful and limit the social mobility of the poor.

Abstract

Purpose −   The concept of halal in Islam includes everything that is justified by the Shari'a, whether in terms of substance, processing process, or how to obtain it. In the framework of a halal lifestyle, the application of the halal principle is not solely related to consumption, but also becomes a form of spiritual awareness and obedience to religious teachings. The aim of this research is to examine people's understanding of the concept of halal food and analyze the impact of tempeh training as a means of da'wah in Patipi Pasir, Patipi Bay, Fakfak Regency, West Papua   Method −   The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with the local community.   Findings −   The research results show that public understanding still focuses on normative aspects of sharia, without being accompanied by a comprehensive understanding of halalness in terms of materials, production processes and distribution. The lack of religious education is the cause of low halal literacy. Tempeh training has been proven to be effective in improving skills, encouraging food independence, and strengthening awareness of the importance of consuming halal products among the Patipi Pasir community. Da'wah integration and economic empowerment through local food is a potential strategy in building a halal lifestyle for the Patipi Pasir community. People who initially rarely consumed tempeh because access to the city was not easy have now started making tempeh independently. This is a good first step to create food independence for the Patipi Pasir community. Apart from being able to consume it every day, tempeh is also guaranteed to be halal. Food that is guaranteed to be halal can increase spiritual awareness, especially for the people of Patipi Pasir, Teluk Patipi, Fakfak Regency, West Papua.

Abstract

Purpose − The aim of this study is to analyze the framing by Inilah.com on the incident as well as which issues are highlighted in its reporting.   Method –   This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using primary and secondary data. Primary data consist of TikTok videos uploaded by Inilah.com related to the collapse of the Al-Khoziny Pondok Pesantren, published between September 29 and October 9, 2025. Data were collected through purposive sampling, focusing on content containing news elements such as chronology, causes, impacts, and responses. Secondary data were obtained from relevant literature and online sources. Data analysis applies Robert N. Entman’s framing model, examining problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. The analysis focuses on video content, language, and visual elements to identify framing patterns and emphasized issues, supported by source triangulation.   Findings −   The results of the study show that Inilah.com frames the incident gradually, starting with an emphasis on humanitarian aspects and the emergency situation, then leading to the technical causes of the building, moral assessments regarding the importance of safety, and finally the issue of legal responsibility. This pattern shows a strategy of issue selection and emphasis on certain aspects to build emotional engagement with the audience before directing attention to structural issues. This study is limited to one account and one incident, so the findings cannot yet be generalized. Future research is recommended to broaden the study's objects to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of disaster framing..

In addition to merely promoting services, in the context of digital ad, the state of understanding Gojek also contains embedded messages related to safety, health, and social issues. In relation to this,   Method – The study applies the qualitative method and content analysis technique to identify the visual, text, and audio elements of ads that carry an educational message in them. The ads documentation was carried out by collecting the Gojek commercials in its YouTube channel. The identification of educational messages was analyzed using Barthes’s concepts of denotation and connotation in order to derive the connotation incorporated in the signs   Findings −  The study reveals that in the commercials under study, Gojek sends educational messages through symbols that touch upon everyday life but convey a deeper message in the form of social responsibility and safety. The receivers of such state of understanding respond to the Gojek’s educational approach positively as it incites the demand for services and makes a positive impact on society. Abstract

Purpose − The development of digital technology has changed the pattern of Islamic da'wah from a conventional approach to a more interactive and participatory social media-based da'wah. This research aims to examine the effectiveness of social media as a means of Islamic da'wah in the digital era. Method − Used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with PRISMA guidelines for 20 articles of reputable scientific journals published in the last ten years. Findings − The results of the study from 20 articles show that social media such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook are effective in several fields of da'wah, namely the dissemination of Islamic information and education, the improvement of religious understanding and literacy, the formation of religious attitudes and behaviors, the expansion of the reach of da'wah, especially in the younger generation, and the increase of audience interaction and participation. The effectiveness is influenced by the quality of the content, the suitability of the platform, the interactive communication strategy, and the credibility of the preacher. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that social media can be an effective means of Islamic da'wah if it is managed strategically, ethically, and contextually and oriented towards the quality of the message and the religious impact of the audience.

Abstract

Purpose − This article aims to deeply analyze the role of social media as a communication tool in building, changing, and even fracturing social relationships in an increasingly digitalized society Method − This research uses a qualitative approach with a desk study method, examining academic literature published in 2023 and later. Findings − Social media has been shown to have a dual role: as a catalyst for the formation of collective solidarity and a space for public advocacy, and as a medium prone to misuse to spread hoaxes, hate speech, and social fragmentation. This study examines how social interactions on digital platforms strengthen public participation in public issues such as social justice, public services, and government policy, but also open up opportunities for horizontal conflict due to widespread disinformation and algorithms that reinforce group bias. Key findings indicate that social media not only accelerates the flow of communication between individuals but also shifts the centers of communication power from formal institutions to informal actors, such as influencers, content creators, and online communities. In the context of public relations, social media serves as a bridge across classes, cultures, and geographic regions, although it often creates digital exclusivity that exacerbates social inequalities.

Abstract

Purpose − This study aims to analyze how the management of the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) addresses early marriage at the sub-district level. The study positions the KUA as a strategic actor that not only performs administrative functions but also plays an educational and preventive role based on religious values. Method − The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and documentation, which are analyzed through stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings − The findings show that KUA management is implemented through the functions of planning, organizing, implementation, as well as monitoring and evaluation. Planning is carried out by identifying causal factors contextually; organizing is integrative without a specific structure but strengthened through cross-institutional collaboration; implementation is realized through premarital counseling in schools and religious forums involving both youth and parents; and monitoring is conducted through the observation of marriage and marriage dispensation data, as well as internal reflection. Overall, KUA management demonstrates an adaptive and collaborative approach in efforts to prevent early marriage, although it still faces limitations in terms of resources and evaluation systems.
