Abstract

Books are one of the main collections served by libraries. There are books that are often used as reference material, but there are also books that are used sparingly. On the other hand, there are books that are used as references by users that have not been provided by the library. This research aims to see the availability of book collections based on the number of student thesis citations. This research uses a quantitative approach with bibliometric methods. The main data for this research are citations from student theses from the Universitas Medan Area communication science study program for 2020-2022. The data collected is in the form of a list of citations contained in the thesis. Search, collection and filtering of thesis citation data was carried out. After filtering, the data was tabulated using Ms. Excel will then be compared with the availability of the UMA Library collection via the library's OPAC. The number of book citations contained in communication science students' theses for 2020-2022 in the UMA repository has reached 1,928. Measurements were carried out to evaluate the availability of book collections in the library and provide 44 recommendations for book procurement as improvement steps. Bibliometrics can be used as a tool to measure the usefulness of collections and provide recommendations for the procurement of library collections. However, research involving more research report and study program is expected to produce more comprehensive recommendations.

Abstract

Information Literacy has an important role in the school environment. Information Literacy is closely related to libraries and librarians. The main concern of librarians in developing information literacy programs is because Indonesia is ranked 60th out of 61 countries regarding interest in reading according to data from the most littered nation in the world in 2016. Libraries and librarians can develop the Brain Teaser Games Method using crossword puzzles through literacy programs and school library information. This research intends to determine how this method is implemented for users and school libraries. The research method used is a type of qualitative descriptive research in a literature review which is then used to collect data or sources related to the topic raised in a study. The results of the research can conclude that the crossword puzzle method is useful for readers. Readers' interest in reading has increased, because students are enthusiastic about crossword puzzles. The crossword puzzle method also has an impact on increasing the number of library visitors and improving the quality of librarian competence in conveying information lies to users.

Abstract

This research is an analysis of research development trends on GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) which aims to determine: (1) the development of the number of Scopus publication databases on GLAM from 2010 - 2024; (2) core journals in the field of GLAM publications; (3) networking between authors in GLAM studies; (4) number of author citations related to GLAM; (5 Network Visualization Maps and Publication Overlays about GLAM (6) Publication Density Visualization Maps about GLAM. This research uses a literary observation method with bibliometric analysis. Data was collected using the Publish or Perish application from the Scopus database between 2010 and 2024 which was then visualized using VosViewer application. The research results found that there were 84 articles discussing GLAM. There were 4 core journals related to GLAM, namely Advances in Librarianship (Q3), Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Q2), Global Knowledge, Memory and Communication (Q2) and Journal of Information Science (Q2). From the visualization results, there are 5 main research clusters and themes in GLAM studies that have not been widely researched, namely "cultural Heritage Collections", "Digital Humanities", "GLAM Sector", "Interoperability", and "GLAM Labs".

Abstract

Digital literacy competency is the ability to process various sources of information based on digital technology, understand the information obtained, and communicate information in digital format. This research seeks to answer the problem formulation in this research, namely: "what is the digital literacy level of students using the Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah E-Library application?". This research is quantitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques in this research are observation techniques, questionnaires and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique in this research uses descriptive analysis techniques. The respondents in the research were 196 students using the Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah E-Library application. The results of this research show that the mean of the results of calculating the digital literacy level of students using the Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah E-Library application is at a score of 3.25 with a score range on a scale of 2.52 until 3.27. Thus, it can be concluded that the digital literacy level of students using the Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah ELibrary application is in the high category.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the mobile library program as a form of public service provided by the Cimahi City Public Library in enhancing literacy access for the community, particularly for students in areas with limited access to conventional libraries. The study is motivated by the urgency of equitable access to information as a part of inclusive literacy development. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through in-depth interviews with librarians who are directly involved in the implementation of the program. The findings indicate that the mobile library significantly contributes to increasing students’ reading interest by providing diverse and easily accessible reading materials. The presence of this service allows students to access information without the need to visit a library building directly. However, the implementation of the program faces several challenges, including limited vehicle availability, a shortage of human resources, and the risk of collection damage due to high mobility. Nevertheless, the findings suggest that the mobile library plays a strategic role in expanding the reach of library services and supporting the development of an equitable literacy ecosystem in Cimahi City.

Abstract

The library functions as a center for information, education, research, cultural conservation, and a place of recreation that is very important for the community. However, in reality, many users experience the phenomenon of library anxiety which affects the low effectiveness of library services. This study aims to identify the symptoms of library anxiety and to explore the role and competence of librarians in overcoming it. In the literature study method, this article collects various literatures to analyze the causal factors, descriptions, and solutions to the phenomenom. It was found that library anxiety is due to psychological factors such as fear of asking questions, lack of self-confidence, and concerns about the use of library facilities that are considered complicated. Symptoms that occur include psychological changes, avoidance behavior, and cognitive disorders. To reduce this library anxiety, librarians must apply an empathy-based service approach that strengthens information capability programs, provides proactive services, and creates a friendly and integrated library environment. The findings of this study highlight the importance of psychological and structural strategies in supporting users to overcome library anxiety. So that it can improve the effectiveness and quality of library services as a whole.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of collaboration between the Institute of Domestic Government (IPDN) Library and the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) in improving the capacity of Human Resources (HR), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and the development of IPDN library infrastructure. Using a qualitative approach with a case study, this research collected data through in-depth interviews with officials and staff involved in the implementation of the collaboration. The results show that the collaboration that began in 2019 has brought significant positive impacts, including the improvement of librarian competencies through training and certification programs, the integration of the INLISLite digital library management system, as well as the development of physical and digital infrastructure. The collaboration has also enabled wider access to digital information resources through platforms such as Indonesia OneSearch (IOS) and Ipusnas. However, challenges such as long-distance communication constraints and a drastic decline in the number of physical visitors to the IPDN central library were also identified. The decline in physical visits was attributed to the ease of access to digital collections, the existence of faculty libraries, and mobile library services. Nonetheless, this collaboration has successfully improved the operational efficiency and service quality of the IPDN library, making it more responsive to user needs in the digital age. This research suggests periodic evaluation of library usage patterns and the development of innovative strategies to re-attract physical visitors, while continuing to expand the reach of digital services. Thus, IPDN Library can continue to adapt to technological developments and user needs, making it more relevant and effective in supporting the education and research process at IPDN.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the utilization of international collections in the National Library's International Service. Using qualitative descriptive methods, data collection with data analysis techniques using the Miles & Huberman model, namely by using the techniques: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that this collection is in great demand, especially by students, due to a number of obstacles faced by users, such as language barriers and limited collections. Further analysis shows that internal factors such as user needs, interests, and motives, as well as external factors such as the completeness of the collection and librarian skills. Overall, international collections have great potential to support the development of science, but further efforts are needed to overcome obstacles and increase socialization. The results of the study show that this collection is in great demand, especially among students. However, there are a number of obstacles faced by users, such as language barriers and limited collections.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out about the role of the library in increasing reading interest for blind people. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection through primary data obtained by in-depth interviews and observation, while secondary data obtained from documentation. Data validity techniques used were source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. Determination of informants using purposive sampling method. The results showed that the role of librarians in increasing reading interest is as educators, managers, administrators, and supervisors. The role of librarians as educators is to provide a source of learning and entertainment references, narrate books, carry out User Education. The role of librarians as managers and administrators is to provide comfortable rooms, collect and manage accessible collections, provide reading support facilities, provide accessibility collection request services, prepare activity plans and annual budgets. While the role of librarians as supervisors is to collaborate with internal and external parties. In its role there are still obstacles faced by the library in order to increase interest in reading for blind people.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of disability services in enhancing information accessibility at the National Library of Indonesia (PNRI). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that PNRI provides specialized facilities such as Braille collections, audiobooks, screen readers, dedicated reading rooms, and computers equipped with text to-speech technology to support users with disabilities. However, these services have not fully adhered to the standards set by the IFLA Checklist. Key challenges include limitations in physical infrastructure, funding, adaptive technologies, and librarians' competencies in offering inclusive and disability-friendly services. The study also highlights that the majority of service usage is concentrated among visually impaired users, with less engagement from other disability groups such as hearing-impaired or physically disabled users. Recommendations include enhancing librarians' skills through continuous training, improving physical and technological infrastructure, and fostering strategic collaborations with disability communities and organizations. A more systematic and inclusive approach is expected to improve service quality and broaden accessibility, stablishing PNRI as a truly inclusive information institution.
