Abstract

This research aims to identify the community's level of knowledge regarding the flood and tide infrastructure development program constructed by the Government of Pekalongan City. Additionally, it aims to formulate recommendations for future program improvements based on the community's perspective. The research utilized a mixed-method approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 155 respondents. The sampling technique used is proportionate stratified sampling based on population data and the extent of flood-affected areas. Subsequently, data were gathered through a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) involving community leaders. The study employed descriptive statistics and SWOT analysis. The results showed that a significant portion of the community is aware of some flood and tide control infrastructures built by the Government of Pekalongan City, although not all. The community perceived the infrastructure development as less successful. The community perceived that the current infrastructure development needs to be accelerated, leveled, improved, integrated, and adjusted to the needs of each affected region, involving the community in every stage of the program. The findings suggest that the Government of Pekalongan City needs to optimize the development of flood and tide control infrastructure. Abstract

The demand for clean water in Pekalongan City is rising due to population growth, urbanization, and industrial and hotel development. The scarcity of surface water and contamination of water sources are prompting residents to turn to groundwater. However, excessive groundwater use for domestic and industrial needs could potentially lead to problems like tidal waves and floods. Despite these risks, groundwater remains a crucial source of clean water for many. This study assesses community awareness and perceptions regarding the use and conservation of groundwater. The research, conducted from July to August 2023, involved a survey, comprehensive interviews, and field observations with 200 participants. A quantitative descriptive analysis and the Chi-Square test were applied to the data. Findings reveal that while most people recognize the adverse environmental impacts of groundwater exploitation and the necessity for its conservation, insufficient government outreach has led to poor conservation practices. The study also found a positive community perception towards groundwater use and its conservation. Although only a few respondents had low awareness, their attitudes could potentially affect overall community consciousness. A significant correlation between knowledge and public perception of groundwater use and its preservation was identified, suggesting that better understanding could bolster conservation efforts. Nonetheless, enhancements in various programs, particularly those related to groundwater conservation techniques like rainwater harvesting and public water utility (PDAM) initiatives, are essential.. Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem caused by low intake of nutritious food, poor sanitation, and a long history of disease infection. One of the indirect factors causing stunting is water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Pekalongan as the city of batik, it is possible that batik industry waste containing heavy metals can disrupt the growth of children. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors of environmental sanitation association incidence of stunting among children in Pekalongan. This research is an analytic study with a case-control study design.  The population in this study were mothers who had toddlers aged 6-59 months with a total sample of 177 respondents. The sampling technique in this study is a non-probability sampling method, namely purposive sampling. Univariate bivariate and multivariate analysis with SPSS 20.0. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a relationship between Sewage (p=0.000; OR=5,096), light intensity (p=0.000; OR=9,404), vent area (p=0.000; OR=9.941), and the habit of opening windows (p=0.000; OR=27,215) with stunting. The prevalence of stunting in the city of Pekalongan is related to sewage ownership, lighting, ventilation and the habit of opening windows. It is suggested that the Pekalongan government use the Community Based Total Sanitation (CBTS) program to empower the community with regard to environmental sanitation. Keywords: Stunting, WASH, sanitation.

Abstract

The land use pattern and infrastructure investment serve as tools that can be utilized to create opportunities for increasing land economic value. This research aims to formulate the Land Value Capture (LVC) model as a non-governmental financing source that can be used to finance the development of the Pekalongan City Station area with the concept of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). The analytical tools used include descriptive and literature studies, as well as SWOT analysis. The research area is focused on 3 (three) areas that may be ready for LVC implementation, namely 1) the Hoegeng Stadium area, 2) the former Sri Ratu area, shops on the east side, and 3) shops on the east side of the station. LVC instruments that can be applied in this area include land value taxes, joint development, land readjustment using diversification strategies. Abstract

Poverty in the City of Pekalongan should be viewed as urban poverty, whose vulnerability is a social construct. This study was conducted on four priority communities to explain poverty in this city, namely: the fishing community in Kampung Pegirian, the farming community in Kampung Yosorejo, the batik labor community in Kampung Jenggot Tengah, and the informal worker community in Kampung Nggodang. Using ethnographic methods, this study addresses the types of social relations that occur in productive activities, which ultimately create poverty rather than prosperity. The study results, interpreted through Henry Bernstein's political economy perspective, indicate that the dynamics of poverty in the City of Pekalongan are constructed through ecological conditions, modes of production, social relations of production, and developmental interventions.
