Abstract

This community service program aims to implement kolintang in church settings to enhance congregational understanding of music while fostering mental, spiritual, social, and collaborative aspects. The method used is community education and training through Kolintang Pedagogy, which integrates body movements, visuals, rhythm, and harmonic patterns to facilitate musical comprehension. This approach also utilizes Directional Chord Symbols, an intuitive harmonic notation system that enables participants to grasp the relationships between notes and chords more effectively in kolintang performance. The program was conducted among women’s and children’s groups in three Pentecostal churches in Indonesia (Banten and East Java). The results showed significant improvements: (1) musical harmony comprehension increased from 25% to 85%, (2) kolintang playing skills improved from 5% to 70%, (3) kolintang was successfully integrated into church worship, and (4) community bonding was strengthened through collective musical activities. This program not only preserves Indonesia’s cultural heritage but also enriches the congregation’s spiritual experience through an inclusive and innovative musical approach.

Abstract

The church is not only seen from its large and beautiful building standing in a place. But in addition to the building, it is also necessary to pay attention to the complex or pargodungan which has a dual and vital function to the residents and surroundings. Since the missionaries, they have made the church complex a shady place and a pilot center for the wider community. Namely by planting trees that can be enjoyed by the congregation and the community as well. So in restoring the function of the church complex as done by the missionaries in the past, it is necessary to recognize the planting of trees in the church complex with various types of plants. So that the dual function of the church complex receives attention among the congregation. Where the church complex is a gathering place with a variety of activities for congregation members ranging from Sunday School children to the elderly. Both functions are that the church complex becomes the lungs around the church in terms of producing fresh air, shelter and preserving the environment.

Abstract

The Community Service Activity of the Indonesian Evangelical Theological College (STTII) Kupang at the Indonesian Bethel Church (GBI) Shekinah Glory-Namosain Kupang explored the theme "Training on the Application of Reconciliation and Unity in Romans: Based on OT-NT Theology to Build an Ecumenical Church and Transformative Sermons" which aims to overcome divisions within the church through a theological approach based on the Old Testament (OT) and New Testament (NT), especially the letter to the Romans. The background of this activity is based on the reality of church denominational divisions that hinder the mission of evangelization and the building of a harmonious society, so that training is needed to promote reconciliation and unity as the foundation of the ecumenical church. The methods used include interactive workshops, group discussions, and transformative sermon simulations, which involve participants in the local church community. The results of the activity show an increase in participants' understanding of the theology of reconciliation in Romans, with indicators such as the ability to design sermons that encourage social and spiritual change. The conclusion of this activity is that this training has succeeded in building ecumenical awareness, strengthening solidarity, and providing long-term benefits to the community through more inclusive and transformative preaching, thus contributing to the building of a more peaceful and united society.

Abstract

This Community Service activity aims to train the ability of Christian Religious Education (PAK) teachers in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in using learning media technology to increase student interest in learning. PAK teachers in PAUD have an important role in introducing and instilling Christian values that strengthen children's faith and character from an early age. The use of learning media technology can help PAK teachers deliver material in an interactive and interesting way, so as to increase students' interest in learning. However, many PAK teachers in PAUD still experience limitations in utilizing learning media technology due to lack of skills and access to training. This community service activity focuses on helping teachers overcome these obstacles by conducting training on PAK teachers' ability to use learning media technology that is interesting and aligned with Christian values to support a more effective teaching process. The purpose of this PkM is to increase knowledge about learning media technology, skills in teaching using learning media technology and developing the ability of PAK teachers to present more interactive, varied and interesting learning so that student interest in learning can increase. This PkM activity uses an approach that includes a survey to identify the needs and constraints of teachers, training through seminars to provide a theoretical foundation and practice through workshops with guidelines for making teaching materials containing Christian values using power point learning media technology. This activity was attended by 8 teachers from FILADELFIA OEFKEUN PAUD and 14 people from PkM members who participated in seminars and workshops. The results of this PkM activity are PAUD teachers understand and use learning media technology, especially power point as one of the tools to create interactive and interesting learning materials so that children learn with enthusiasm and fun

Abstract

The situational analysis revealed that students of Sekolah Lentera Harapan Gunung Moria, originating from the interior regions of Papua, generally have limited experience in using scientific laboratory equipment due to inadequate facilities and restricted access to laboratories. This gap has contributed to their low level of conceptual understanding in science learning. This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to conduct a training workshop on constructing a simple centrifugation device designed from easily accessible materials without relying on standard laboratory equipment. The implementation methods included: (1) preparation of the centrifugation device prototype, (2) training sessions and intensive mentoring conducted by lecturers and students from the Biology Education Study Program, and (3) evaluation through interviews. The activity was integrated with the Laboratory Management course using a Project-Based Learning approach. The program was held on Thursday, April 24, 2024, at SLH Gunung Moria, Jalan Boulevard M.H. Thamrin No. 1100, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, Banten, involving 20 students. The evaluation results indicated that the activity improved students’ understanding of centrifugation principles as well as their skills in assembling and operating the device independently. This small fan-based innovation provided contextual and practical learning experiences while fostering students’ creativity in conducting science practicum activities without laboratory facilities.

Abstract

Higher education in engineering is one of the most popular and sought-after majors among high school (SMA) and equivalent students such as vocational schools (SMK). Engineering majors are considered to offer good, bright, and promising prospects, including the availability of extensive job opportunities, especially in the industrial and construction sectors. However, the path to achieving this requires students to have good mathematical skills, which must be started at the latest when students are in high school/vocational school. The Community Service (PKM) activity that we conducted tried to find out how the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 South Tangerang City view the subject of Mathematics. Of the 39 students, only 2 students said they liked Mathematics and 37 people gave answers that gave the impression that Mathematics is difficult and confusing. In this PKM activity, we gave 2 presentations that illustrated how Mathematics is needed in everyday life. At the end of the activity, a question and answer session was held and through the questions asked by the students, it was seen that the students gave a positive response to this activity.
