Abstract

Yogurt is one of the functional foods obtained from fermented milk with the help of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB). Several innovations were made to improve the functional properties of yogurt by adding ingredients rich in fiber, one of which is pumpkin. The nutritional content of pumpkin is quite complete, and its utilization is still minimal, so this pumpkin has the potential to be developed as an alternative in making yogurt. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the proportion of pumpkin juice on the characteristics of yogurt that is suitable for consumption in terms of pH and organoleptic tests. The research design used was a Randomized Block Design (RAK) using 3 treatments, namely: the first treatment 1:1 (pumpkin: water); second treatment 1:2 (pumpkin: water); and the third treatment 1:3 (pumpkin: water) with 4 replications. The pH test used a pH meter and pH 7 buffer. Based on the results of laboratory tests, the highest pH value was 6.67 in the first treatment (P1), and the lowest pH was 5.62 in the second treatment (P2). For the organoleptic test, the color is yellow to orange, the taste of yogurt obtained is slightly sour to sour, the aroma of pumpkin yogurt is pungent, and the texture is watery to thick.

Abstract

Concept mastery is a person's basic ability to bring up other abilities in learning. Therefore it is necessary to conduct research on the relationship between mastery of concepts and other content such as the ability to use representations horizontally, which is referred to as cross-mode horizontal translation or HTM. One indicator of someone who has representational abilities is being able to express biological concepts by using representations horizontally. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of student mastery of concepts to representational abilities, especially HTM. The research method is a correlational analysis between concept mastery and HTM abilities. The research subjects were 37 students who had taken the Plant Physiology course at the Biology Education Study Program at the Mandalika University of Mataram, in the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. Data was collected using essay tests that had been assessed by experts and declared fit for use. Data analysis used a regression test at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that there was a correlation between concept mastery and students' representation abilities in interpreting scientific phenomena horizontally (HTM) in photosynthetic materials. The amount of loan provided by understanding the concept of representation ability is 55.70%.

Abstract

Diarrhea is a disease that causes sufferers to have frequent bowel movements with watery or watery stools. One of the causes of diarrhea is Escherichia coli bacteria. One of the plants that has been used as an antidiarrheal is guava (Psidium guajava L.), especially the leaves. Guava leaves are known to contain phytochemicals, namely: tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and essential oils which function as antibacterials. This study aims to determine whether guava leaf extract can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. This research is a laboratory experimental study using the paper disc diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer). The sample used was Escherichia coli bacteria obtained from stool samples of diarrhea patients aged 8-12 years at the Nanggalo Health Center, Padang City, West Sumatra Province. The concentrations used in this study were 10%, 15%, 20%, and positive control for amoxicillin and negative control for distilled water. The results showed that the phytochemical test results for flavonoids, tannins and saponins, and alkaloids were positive. The antibacterial activity of guava leaf extract was shown to have inhibition against Escherichia coli bacteria with an average concentration of 10% with a diameter of 10.7 mm (strong), 15% with a diameter of 13.3 mm (strong), and 20% with a diameter of 17 mm (strong). ), 13 mm amoxicillin positive control, and 0 mm negative control. The results of the ANOVA test showed a value of p = 0.000 (sig. <0.05) that there was a significant difference between all treatments with a positive control. It can be concluded that guava leaf extract effectively inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria, this is because the diameter of the extract inhibition zone is larger than the positive control.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the adsorbents of marble powder and manure rock of laying hens on the percentage of bio-gas content, and to determine the optimization of the adsorbent treatment of manure rock of laying hens and marble powder in producing the percentage of bio-gas content and reducing the amount of bio-gas content other than CH4. The research material used was chicken manure rock and marble powder. The research method used was an experiment with RAL (completely randomized design), which consisted of 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatment is without using adsorbents; 100% laying hen manure rock; 100% marble powder; and 50% marble powder + 50% manure rock laying hens. The variables observed in this study include the volume and time required for methane gas to flow through the adsorbent, the time required for methane gas to pass through the adsorbent to the gas-holding balloon as a sample, and the gas content in methane gas before purification, the percentage levels of CO2, CH4, O2, and N2. The results showed that the use of marble powder and manure rock adsorbents for laying hens on the percentage of biogas content gave no significant difference (P > 0.05) to the percentages of CH4, O2, and N2 gases, but gave a significant difference (P <0.05 ) to the percentage of CO2 gas of 11.33% was found in the P2 treatment which used 100% marble powder adsorbent. P2 treatment was able to reduce CO2 levels by 59.70%. It can be concluded that the greater the CH4, the better the calorific value and is inversely proportional to CO2.
