Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of rainfall and wind on fish catches for fishermen at Bungus Ocean Port, West Sumatra. Rainfall and wind data were obtained from BMKG Teluk Bayur, Padang, while fish catch data were obtained from PPS Bungus staff, West Sumatra. The methods used in this research activity are the survey method and quantitative analysis. The results of this study showed that rainfall in the study area ranged from 0.01-15.4 mm, the average wind speed ranging from 1.0-1.6 m/s for the catch ranging from 334.983-560.145 kg. The results of the analysis between rainfall and wind on fish catches showed the correlation is not too intense because, based on the results of interviews, fishermen make voyage trips or fishing trips where fishing trips are carried out for more than one day, sometimes even more than one month, so additional data is needed for future research in the form of fishing trip data and data of ships departing per trip

Abstract

The coastal area of Mapur village is a conservation area that is a tourist attraction because of its uniqueness and natural beauty. This aims to increase people's income, utilize seagrapes without exploiting them, and make tourism while still paying attention to preserving the aquatic environment sustainably. This research was carried out in February 2022 in the Bintan Waters, Mapur Island, Bintan Regency, Kepulauan Riau Province. The method used in this study is mixed, including qualitative and quantitative methods. In this study, researchers explored data and information on topics or issues related to strategies for tourism development by describing qualitative and quantitative data using SWOT analysis. In selecting informants, the researchers used a purposive sampling technique with 30 respondents: a village leader, a PKK leader, the LPM, a youth organization leader, an Ecology Foundation Team, three fishermen, and 22 tourists. Results show that Mapur Village can be categorized as a water conservation area, which has now been designated as TWP (Tourism Water Park) in Bintan Timur. This village has excellent potential and is very promising as a tourism destination based on its natural resources, such as abundant sea grapes with high economic value ecological conditions. Waters and social support, beautiful beaches, and coral reefs in good condition all support the development of tourism on Mapur Island. The best strategy is to implement an aggressive approach by maximizing existing strengths and opportunities, which can be done with 4 SO strategies: cultivating sea grapes with eco-farming techniques, utilizing sea grapes and beautiful beaches to bring in tourists, and opening business opportunities for rural communities. They are building cooperation between village communities and the government, universities, and LPM and expanding promotions

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the types of gastropods and the structure of the gastropod community in the Mangrove area of Kuala Batee District, Southwest Aceh Regency. The quantitative descriptive method is used to determine research stations using purposive sampling techniques. Gastropod sampling was carried out at three station locations, each station consisting of three sub-stations with a size of 10 x 10 m. In the substations, 15 transects measured 1 x 1 m, namely, two points at the corner of each transect and one point in the middle. The results of the research showed that the gastropods found were 11 species from 4 ordo, ordo Archaeogastropoda consists of Neritina turita, N.semiconica, N.variegate, Neritodryas dubia, and Clithon corona, ordo Ceanogastropoda consists of Faunus ater and Bitium munitum, ordo Mesogastropoda consists of Cerithidea optusa, Stenomelania plicaria, and Thiara scabra, ordo Ellobiida consist of Cassidula angulifera. The structure of the gastropod community in the mangrove area of Kuala Batee District, Southwest Aceh Regency, has a diversity index ranging from 0.65-1.32, including the medium category, uniformity index values ranging from 0.36-0.63 including the medium category, and dominance values ranging from between 0.33-0.63 is included in the medium category. Environmental parameters in the mangrove area show an average temperature value of 28.20C, a salinity value of 5.6 ppt, and a pH value of 8.3

Abstract

Kappaphycus alvarezii is an important red algae and can be used as one of the primary raw materials in fisheries. It is widely cultivated because of its relatively cheap production technology, and post-harvest handling is simple and easy. This algae has excellent economic value for carrageenan producers. Carrageenan is used as a food ingredient, cosmetics, and medicine. The success of cultivating K. alvarezii seaweed can be achieved if a suitable environment for its growth supports it. One of the environmental aspects that influence the growth of K. alvarezii seaweed is the bottom substrate of the waters. This research aims to analyze the best substrate for cultivating green K.alvarezii seaweed on a laboratory scale. This research used an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and three repetitions, resulting in 12 experimental units. The treatments tested were different substrates: a coral substrate, a sand substrate, a volcanic rock substrate, and a coral sand substrate. The results of this study showed that the average survival rate in various substrate treatments ranged from 7.16% to 39%, final weight ranged from 1.43 g to 7.8 g, specific loss rate ranged from -3.157%/day to -5.124%/day, carrageenan yield ranged from 6.8% to 18.4%, and thallus tissue showed that all treatments still showed the presence of cortex and medullary tissue with varying shapes and structures

Abstract

Boat lift nets are one of the fishing gears in PPS Bungus, data from December 2021; 142 Bagan boat boats departed to carry out fishing operations with the number of fishermen boats 6 - 21 people and the weight of the ship 8-30 GT. In recent years, there have been several work accidents experienced by Bagan boat fishermen, such as falling while walking on the boat deck, fatigue, stepping on rotten wood, and broken hands. This study aims to determine the cases of work accidents that occurred in boat-bagan fishermen in the period January 2022 - January 2023, describe the activities carried out by boat-bagan fishermen, and determine the level of risk experienced by boat-bagan fishermen. This study uses a descriptive observational method with data analysis of probability concepts, JSA, and HIRA using the 2004 Australia and New Zealand standard risk control matrix. The results showed that the activities carried out in the operation preparation stage at PPS Bungus were mainly carried out by laborers (non-fishermen), work accidents in 7 operation activities were classified into five low-risk accidents and two moderate-risk and work accidents in the post-operation stage occurred 4 out of 7 activities which were classified into three common risk accidents and one medium risk.

Abstract

In the coral reef ecosystem, there is a food source for small fish, which are prey for various kinds of associated biota; one of the biota that lives in the coral reef ecosystem is megabenthos. Megabenthos is influenced by the quality of the coral reef ecosystem, where if conditions are good, the coral will have a greater chance of high megabenthos diversity. This research was carried out in March 2023 in Setan Island, West Sumatra. This research analyzes the relationship between coral reef conditions and megabenthos abundance. The method used in this research is a survey method. Observations of coral reef cover were carried out using the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method, and megabenthos abundance was measured using the Benthos Belt Transect (BBT) method. Observations were carried out at four stations (3 and 6 m deep) with a transect length of 50 m. Based on the average value of the percentage of coral reef cover, it is still categorized as being in poor condition, namely 18.87%. There is a relationship between the percentage of live coral reef cover and the abundance of megabenthos with a percentage of 55.27%, with the types of megabenthos clams (Tridacna sp), sea cucumbers (Holothuria sp), snails (Trochus sp), lobsters (Panulirus sp), fur pigs (Diadema sp), snails (Drupella sp), and starfish (Acanthasper sp).

Abstract

Marine debris is a solid material that is disposed of or left in the marine environment by the public either intentionally or unintentionally. The purpose of this study is to identify the abundance and weight of waste (mega and macro) and explain the relationship between current patterns and the distribution of surface waste in the waters of Palopo City. The research was conducted in May-July 2023. Sampling data was collected using Neuston nets installed on both sides of the boat. The results showed that the marine debris found in the waters of Palopo City during high and low tide was dominated by plastic waste. The abundance of plastic waste at high tide is higher than at low tide. The accumulation of scattered surface marine debris is carried away by currents due to the intensity of wind and tides and strengthened by the location of the waters close to the mainland of Palopo City so that marine debris carried by wind and currents tends to the south

Abstract

Macrozoobenthos are organisms that live sedentary (sessile) and have varying adaptability to environmental conditions. In addition, the level of diversity found in the aquatic environment can be used as an indicator of pollution. The purpose of this study was to determine the type, abundance, diversity, and distribution pattern of macrozoobenthos in the intertidal zone. This research was conducted in the waters of Pasumpahan Island. The method used in this study was a survey method, while sampling was carried out using three stations and each station consisted of 3 transects and three sub-zones using a 1m x 1m quadrant map. The results of this study found that the abundance value at each station was 4.22-5.78 ind/m2, while the abundance in the sub-zone ranged from 3.00-7.67 ind/m2, the diversity index (H') at the study sites ranged from 1.65-2.31, which means 1.0 ≤H' < 3.0 and the diversity of macrozoobenthos at the study site was categorized as moderate. The distribution pattern (Id) of macrozoobenthos at locations was clustered with a value of 1.05-1.28. The results of the One Way ANOVA test between stations obtained a value of 0.001 where p <0.05, which means H0 was rejected and there was a significant difference between the 3 stations, followed by the LSD test to find out which average between stations was the most different real

Abstract

The Malacca Strait is a water that connects the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea (Pacific Ocean). The Straits of Malacca is the busiest waters because it is filled with activities in and out of ships, fishing activities, ecotourism, and community sea transportation. These activities significantly affect the condition of the waters in the Malacca Strait. Water conditions are greatly affected by oceanographic parameters. One of the most critical parameters is currents. This ocean current is a horizontal movement of water masses influenced by other oceanographic factors. This research was conducted in June - July 2022. This study aimed to determine the pattern of current circulation, direction, and speed of currents as well as sea level during conditions at full moon (highest tide) and new low tide (Lowest tide) each month and every season in the Straits of Malacca. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative, where numerical data is collected to support the formation of numerical models such as wind, tidal, and bathymetry data. Numerical modeling is a function of the software to determine the pattern of current movement based on the data used. Based on the four seasons (West Season, Transition I, East, and Transition II) at high tide. The highest current speed ranges from 0.02 to 2.07 m/s, while at high tide, the highest current speed ranges from 0.03 to 2.58 m/s.

Abstract

This research was carried out in February – May 2022 at Kade Tigo Beach, Central Tapanuli. This study aims to determine the suitability value and carrying capacity of Kade Tigo Beach for sustainable marine ecotourism. The method used is a survey method with the determination of research stations by purposive sampling. Based on the study's results, an average travel suitability index value was obtained of 88% and was categorized in the very appropriate category. The carrying capacity of the Kade Tigo Beach area is 9,000 people a day, 270,000 people a month, and 3,285,000 a year.
