Abstract

This research involves three variables: future returns, mispricing, and investor preference. The issue is that future returns in the markets are difficult to understand, especially for beginner, amateur investors. They are advised to focus on blue-chip stocks due to their safety in the market. The objective of this research is to find a connection from mispricing and investor preference to the future anomalies as indicators of mispricing and ten measurements as indicators of investor preference leading to three anomalies of mispricing and three measurements of investor preference. The three anomalies are asset growth, net operating assets, and total returns of blue-chip stocks. The methods used are descriptive statistics and associative statistics. In this research, we adopted eleven liabilities to total assets, while the three investor preferences are beta synchronous trading, book equity to market equity, and size. The descriptive statistics show that the asset growth, net operating asset, and size of eight companies are above the mean and the others are below it. Blue-chip stocks have excellent growth in assets, high operating assets, and high market capitalization. In addition, they have low liabilities (solvable), book value to market value (high return), and beta (low market sensitivity). The associative statistics used the multiple-regression cross-section Newey–West method and conducted the examination three times; that is, it tested mispricing with three indicators, investor preference with three indicators, and additional indicators between mispricing and investor preference. The result is not significant for the investor preference and mispricing index for the future returns of blue-chip stocks. The policy implication is that there is no divergence between fundamental and price security in the types of blue-chip stocks for future returns. Moreover, the institutional or individual investor does not impact future return’s stocks.

Abstract

Simulation-optimization inventory models are widely used in inventory management studies, including for perishable good. A good inventory management is required to save inventory cost. We use simulation approach to take into consideration of uncertain demand and lead time to obtain a better result of optimal order quantity that minimizes inventory cost. Simulation result shows that simulation-optimization models generates lower total inventory cost. The simulation provides information of objectives in inventory management: (1) how much to order and (2) when to order with minimum cost which gives valuable information in business decision making.

Abstract

This study investigates the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) personnel to determine the elements of uncertainty avoidance among the staff. As such, the study examines the respondents’ expectations of rules, changes, and creativity in uncertainty avoidance. This study also investigates the differences between respondents’ behaviour in High Uncertainty Avoidance (HUA) or Low Uncertainty Avoidance (LUA) and the extent to which these differences affect communication. Furthermore, this study employed mixed (qualitative and quantitative) methods as a research design, with ethnography as a research approach.  The study data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS Version 20) and thematic analysis for an in-depth exploration of the respondents. The result of the study showed that, regardless of ethnicity, common HUA values were shared in the observation of rules and regulations, which reflected the consensual agreement on the importance of observing rules. Concerning changes and adaptation, all the three ethnic groups indicated LUA, with only a small number indicating HUA in this matter. The Malay personnel indicated an especially high LUA, as the future was believed to be too intricate, ambiguous, unpredictable, and hostile for efficient planning. Regarding workplace creativity, all three ethnic groups indicated LUA, with only a small number indicating HUA in this matter. Nevertheless, it is made aware in this study that the results are not representative of the three ethnic populations in Malaysia.

Abstract

Exogenous liquidity risk measurement is a measurement of liquidity risk that affects all market participants and is not affected by the actions of any other actors. Exogenous liquidity risk measurement is usually called the Cost of Liquidity (COL). The main problem is how the level of liquidity of one currency against other currencies and the effect of liquidity risk on VaR (Value at Risk) on a single asset. This thesis examines the importance of liquidity risk on a single asset. Combining basic VaR and liquidity risk will result in more effective calculations. The model used is to add the basic VaR value with the Cost of Liquidity (COL) or also called Liquidity VaR (L-VaR). The calculation results show the different effects of liquidity for each country's currency. Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the currency that has the highest liquidity component compared to the Japanese Yen (JPY) and the Thai Baht (THB). The lower the liquidity component of a currency, the currency is very liquid, and the Japanese Yen (JPY) is the most liquid currency compared to the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) and the Thai Baht (THB).
