Abstract

Background Preschool children (golden age periode) are the age where children develop the confidence to explore their independence. One form of independence for preschool children in personal hygiene is brushing their teeth independently. Preschoolers are prone to experience dental caries due to the consumption of sweet foods and low teeth brushing habits, so proper parental parenting is needed to foster independence in maintaining dental hygiene. This research aims to determine parenting patterns and the level of independence in brushing teeth of preschool children at the Assisi Catholic Kindergarten Medan. The method used is a descriptive method with a Cross-Sectional approach. The sample in this study are 35 respondents. The sampling technique is Purposive sampling. The research instrument used is a questionnaire Tiarasukma on parenting patterns and independence in brushing teeth. The research results shows that the majority of parents implemented democratic parenting at 62.9% and the level of independence for preschool children in brushing their teeth reached 74.3%. It is hoped that the results of this research will become learning material for health workers in providing information to parents regarding the implementation of good and correct parenting patterns to help parents more easily teach independent tooth brushing to preschool children.

Abstract

Introduction Fever is one of the most common side effects of DPT immunization in infants, often causing concern among parents. Data from Puskesmas Remboken in 2023 showed that 32.6% of infants experienced Post-Immunization Adverse Events (KIPI), with fever being the most frequent at 29.5%, followed by injection site pain (8.3%), swelling (0.97%), and other reactions (0.57%). Onion compresses are a safe, natural alternative for reducing fever because the compounds they contain help lower body temperature through heat transfer. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a combination of red onion and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) compresses in reducing fever in infants after DPT immunization at Puskesmas Remboken, Minahasa Regency. Method the research uses a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study involved 33 infants selected using accidental sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was conducted using the paired samples t-test and the experiment was conducted for ± 30 days. Result showed that the t-test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that the combination of red onion and VCO compresses was effective in reducing infant body temperature. Conclusion this combination therapy is an effective, safe, and easily applicable non-pharmacological method for managing fever in infants after DPT immunization. It also has the potential to reduce dependence on antipyretics and improve the quality of infant care.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of assertive communication on the mental health of midwifery students from the perspective of communication psychology. The background of this research was based on the high academic pressure and clinical practice experienced by midwifery students, which often leads to stress, anxiety, and depression. This situation necessitates effective communication strategies to maintain students’ psychological well-being during their studies. Assertive communication is considered one of the strategies that enable individuals to express their thoughts and feelings honestly and openly without harming others. This study employs a qualitative approach using data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), participatory observation, and documentation. Participants were purposively sampled from midwifery students at UIN Alauddin Makassar who experienced various academic and clinical pressures. The collected data were analyzed thematically with validation through source triangulation and member checking to ensure the credibility and validity of the findings. The results show that students with passive communication styles tend to experience excessive anxiety and low self-confidence, while aggressive communication styles often trigger interpersonal conflicts that negatively affect psychological conditions. Conversely, students who apply assertive communication demonstrate higher resilience, better management of academic and clinical stress, healthy social relationships, and greater emotional stability. From the perspective of communication psychology, assertive communication functions as a protective mechanism that supports the mental health of midwifery students. This study recommends integrating assertive communication training into the midwifery curriculum as a strategic effort to enhance soft skills and support the psychological well-being of students.

Abstract

Introduction Mild anemia in pregnant women with Hb ≥11 Gr/dl The impact of mild anemia can be moderate to severe anemia in pregnancy, can be fatal if not immediately addressed such as causing miscarriage, premature labor, uterine inertia, prolonged labor, uterine atony, and bleeding and shock. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that globally the prevalence of pregnant women who experience anemia is 83.2% while in Southeast Asia the prevalence is 97.8%. This shows that the prevalence of anemia in Southeast Asia exceeds the global prevalence value. From the data above, it indicates that anemia in pregnant women is one of the important risk factors in health. Research Methods This study aims to implement midwifery care for pregnant women in Mrs. "R" with mild anemia based on midwifery care management. The method applied in this study is using the 7-step Varney analysis. Case Study Results Mrs. "R" With mild anemia for 8 weeks, anamnesis was conducted through interviews by asking about patient complaints, monitoring vital signs, supporting Hb examinations and taking care measures by advising the mother to maintain adequate diet and rest and recommending routine consumption of iron tablets during pregnancy. The conclusion of the case study of Mrs. "R" was a visit at 8 weeks, the results showed that the mother's condition was good, with no dizziness, vital signs within normal limits and Hb within normal limits where previously 9.3 Gr / dl became 11.9 Gr / dl and no potential problems occurred. So in the documentation that has been done on Mrs. "R" there is no theoretical gap.

Abstract

Introduction The Maternal and Child Health (KIA) Book is an important tool in supporting the safety of pregnant women and children through information and recording of health conditions. This study aims to determine the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women towards the use of the KIA Book at the Pangkajene Health Center UPT, Sidenreng Rappang Regency in 2025. Method The study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 70 pregnant women respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi- Square Test. The results showed that most pregnant women had good knowledge (81.4%) and positive attitudes (95.7%) towards the use of the KIA Book. However, statistical analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between knowledge and utilization of the KIA Book ((p = 0.098), while there was a significant relationship between attitude and utilization of the KIA Book (p < 0.001). Conclution:  These results indicate that the attitude of pregnant women has a greater influence on the utilization of the KIA Book than their level of knowledge. Therefore, intervention by health workers, especially midwives, in forming positive attitudes of pregnant women is important to increase the optimal use of the KIA Book. It is hoped that the results of this study can be used as evaluation material for health workers and further researchers in efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.

Abstract

Introduction: Perineal rupture is an injury to the birth canal that may occur with or without the use of obstetric instruments during childbirth. Factors contributing to perineal rupture include the childbirth process itself, excessive fetal birth weight, improper delivery techniques, perineal rigidity, vacuum extraction, and trauma resulting from perineal incision instruments. In postpartum women, inadequately managed perineal wounds are highly susceptible to infection, which can significantly affect the healing process of the perineal wound. Objective: This study aimed to provide midwifery care to Mrs. “Y” through the administration of betel leaf (Piper betle) decoction therapy to accelerate the healing of perineal suture wounds at the Paccing Primary Health Center, Bone Regency. Methods: This study employed a case study design tailored to the client’s needs and within the scope of midwifery authority, using the seven-step Varney midwifery management approach with documentation in SOAP format. Results: The case study involved Mrs. “Y,” a 28-year-old postpartum woman with a perineal suture wound, who initially complained of pain during movement and discomfort while performing daily activities. After three days of midwifery care, the mother’s general condition was good, consciousness was compos mentis, and vital signs were within normal limits. The mother no longer experienced pain, and the perineal suture wound had healed. Conclusion: The results of the midwifery care provided indicate that betel leaf decoction therapy was effective in accelerating the healing of perineal wounds in Mrs. “Y.”
