Abstract

Wolfhart Pannenberg understood the eschatological dimension as an essential element in the discourse of the Kingdom of God. Unfortunately, this critical element is often missing in theological discourses in general that limit the theme of the Kingdom of God in the context of the end of time and disconnect it from everyday human life. This work aims to explain Pannenberg’s thoughts about the Kingdom of God, which is an eschatological realityand closely related to Christian participation in the world. The author argues that Pannenberg understood the Kingdom of God as a foundation for the church and that the hope for the realization of God’s Kingdom urged the church to embody the values of God’s Kingdom by engaging actively with the world today.

Abstract

The development of experiential human sexuality workshops within faith communities in South Africa (SA) is showcased. The findings from a 2019 empirical study with local church congregations around LGBTIQ+ belonging are used as starting point. The intervention brings together people of diverse sexualities and genders from various Christian faith contexts. Methodologies from a longstanding programme developed in the USA are adapted, that was shaped by learnings from the SA Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This is reworked into a continuum approach to sexuality and gender, developing new tools, and using the lens of intersectionality within the SA context. The article explores the potential and pitfalls of using the workshop piloted twice in 2020, more widely in faith settings to create spaces for safe encounter between straight and LGBTIQ+ people engaging on human sexuality, building solidarity and strengthening ally-ship. It concludes to show how an important gap within both LGBTIQ+ activism and theology is met.

Abstract

This article attempts to criticize three main dimensions of Christian theology that are generally anthropocentric: incarnation theology, the concept of imago Dei, and ecclesiology. This article offers a new understanding of the three concepts by engaging with several theologians, namely Jaques Derrida, Neils Gregersen, Jürgen Moltmann, Lynn Towsend White, and some others theologians. The theology of the incarnation is reconstructed more broadly to interpret the incarnation not only for humans, but all creation. Furthermore, the idea of Christ the Imago Dei and all creation created in the unique relationship of the Trinity is used as the key to declaring all creation as imago Christi and imago Trinitatis. These two reconstructions become the basis for correcting the concept of ecclesiology which tends to be anthropocentric. The main goal is to offer a cosmologically-based theological perspective that is not exclusive for humans, but inclusive for all creation—communio creatorum—the fellowship of all creations. Each with its uniqueness has an equal opportunity to glorify God. This article further provides alternative thoughts in dealing with the current ecological crisis.

Abstract

Amid the debate over the asymmetry of the structure of Job's dialogue with his three friends - Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar - and the tendency of OT experts to read it linearly, leading to conclusions about the process of redaction and the redactor of the book of Job, this paper shows that Job's dialogue with three His friends are arranged in a chiastic manner with a certain composition pattern based on the number of verses. Thereby supporting the opinion of the unity of the text of the book of Job.

Abstract

In the church, perfect liturgy is understood as worship’s condition without disruption or mistake. In reality, this perspective often makes some opportunity to discriminate some people from the worship. Research about liturgy, both from theologians, liturgy workers, and scripture text, indicates that the “real” perfect liturgy happens when people participate in daily life. This notion is same as the spirituality of Trinity. This spirituality explains that participation is the form of completeness or perfect God. Therefore, Trinitarian liturgy should show perfect liturgy as active participation from all people in their daily life so that can bring a goodness for others people. Key Words: worship, liturgy, perfect, Trinity, participation, church, daily life.
