Abstract

The paper discussed Filipino indigenous thoughts to appreciate its culture. “Loob” encompassed Filipinos’ humanity, personality, theological perspective and daily experiences. It aspired harmony with others and nature to be in union with God. The interpersonalistic characteristic of “loob” explained the dualism in body-soul and emotional-rational of the Filipinos. The paper focused on the two dimensions of “loob”: as interior and holistic. The interior “loob” affirmed the innate goodness. “Loob” is reconstructed not only the world but itself as well. The holistic concept referred to the unified entity of the world, the non-dual outlook of the world. More, the author took note of the interplay of emerging contrasts between the views of Ayn Rand and the Filipino concept of “loob”. While the Western philosophy emphasizes modern science and technology, the Eastern thinking, however, is more concerned on the inner and personal nature of the self. The Western thinking is departmentalized and detached. On the other hand, the Eastern thinking views the world of senses as ephemeral and illusory. Likewise, the Eastern thinker is acquainted through one’s personal experience and intuitive grasp of reality which is of higher value than analytical speculation

Abstract

In the 19th century Max Weber, a German sociologist, predicted that the future of modern society would be determined by the development of the profession. In such a society, every type of job / position will ensure itself as a profession equipped with technical scientific skills and service specialties. These demands and hopes do not occur much in traditional societies. He acknowledged that the concept of a profession already exists in traditional societies, but is still very, very limited. Among them we know the professions of lawyers, doctors and priests. To obtain these three positions, a person apart from undergoing a long education must also express loyalty to the professional position. These two conditions are highly emphasized because the profession has a special task, namely to provide specific services that are needed by the community.

Abstract

To develop organizational culture in Catholic universities in Indonesia by applying core values raises the question of its eff ectiveness. Departing from Richard P. Nielson’s theory of cultural learning action and phenomenological refl ection on the results of the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and KII this article explains that the organizational culture of Catholic university in Indonesia is based on a Catholic spirituality which is supported by hierarchical leadership. Th e development of an organizational culture that relies on the participation of community members still relies on such hierarchical leadership as moral exemplars.

Abstract

Politic is an inseparable part of human life. Politic is like a double-sided coin; it can be directed positively, meaning it is used to improve the welfare of society in accordance with its essence, or it can become a platform for conflict for power, awakening animalistic instincts through various cunning and dirty means to occupy certain positions. In its implementation, criticism of political life, especially the improper implementation of power, is always present. Such criticism is carried out in various ways. The method of literary writers is one such method. Writers convey criticism of bad power through the use of metaphors. Metaphorical instruments are diverse. One such method is using the name of an animal, the wild boar. Rahardi, a writer, demonstrates this in his book entitled "The Journey of Celeng To Heaven." In this book, Rahardi criticizes how those in power defend their interests using the diverse characters of regional wild boars. The metaphor of the wild boar is rich in meaning and contains a fundamental moral message. It addresses issues of justice, responsibility, concern, rationality, identity, and originality.

Abstract

Consumption is the nature of human life in its adaptation to the world. Activities include taking something from nature and returning it back to nature. Today, the act of consumption has become a serious problem and tends to threaten nature as a shared home on earth. Humans today consume more than ever, this is an excess of industrial logic and the new habitus of consumption (consumerism). Various paradigms of social change - democratic socialism to green anarchism and the use of technology - have become much of a discourse and direction on how humans can treat nature. However, these efforts have a gap in discussion from the micro side, humans as agents. Based on the study of human philosophy and psychoanalysis, human consumption is no longer based on the principle of function alone, but as a need for identity or social symbols. Anxiety and feelings of incompleteness are attempted to be eliminated by the ownership of goods and the act of consumption. Based on this, a re-reflection on the act of consumption is necessary. This is covered in various literature of figures such as Amartya Sen, Erich Fromm, and Pope Francis in the encyclical Laudato si'. Efforts to reconcile humans and nature become a new life ethic that needs to be seriously considered and implemented.

Abstract

This article reconstructs Jürgen Habermas's conceptual apparatus—communicative action, four validity claims (truth, normative correctness, sincerity, comprehensibility), and discourse ethics—to ethically interpret algorithmically mediated digital communication. Using the Transcendental Dialectical Reconstruction Method combined with hermeneutic reading, critical discourse analysis, and instrumental case studies, this study builds a bridge from theory to practice through three main outputs: (1) a “Habermasian” evaluation matrix that translates the four validity claims into operational and auditable indicators; (2) a thought-experiment/fiction-based normative prototype useful for testing the ethical consistency of interface designs and platform policies; and (3) a domination-free design-governance guideline that normatively promotes reason-giving and demand-based approaches, substantive appeals, justification-based curation, and public explanation of algorithmic decisions. Application to the digital debate over the US-Indonesia “reciprocal” tariff policy demonstrates that procedural arrangements—a minimal reason format, a separation of fact-policy channels, reasoned moderation with an appeals path—can shift discourse from engagement metrics to open evaluation of reasons, while simultaneously reducing the tendency for the lifeworld to be colonized by system rationality. This article's primary contribution is a purely Habermas-based operationalization for the contemporary digital ecosystem, which strengthens discursive legitimacy through inclusive, transparent, and revisable procedures. Practical implications include a communication quality audit framework that researchers, educators, platform managers, and policymakers can adopt to advance Verständigung in the digital public sphere.

Abstract

The digital revolution presents a dual impact on Indonesia's public sphere: unlocking democratic potential while simultaneously giving rise to complex pathologies such as hoaxes, polarization, and hate speech. This article argues that a partial ethical approach is inadequate to address these dynamics. Utilizing theoretical triangulation, this analysis integrates the perspectives of Jürgen Habermas, Michel Foucault, and Max Scheler to offer a holistic framework. Habermas provides the normative-procedural foundation concerning the ideal public sphere and communicative distortions. Foucault deconstructs power/knowledge relations and disciplinary mechanisms within the digital architecture. Meanwhile, Scheler complements this with an axiological foundation through material ethics of value and a critique of ressentiment. Contextual Indonesian case studies demonstrate that these three perspectives complement each other dialectically. It is concluded that an effective digital communication ethics requires a three-layered integration: (1) strengthening deliberative-rational procedures (Habermas); (2) maintaining critical vigilance towards power (Foucault); and (3) building character based on values and the education of feeling (Scheler). This synthesis is expected to guide Indonesia's digital ecosystem towards becoming a space that is not only intelligent but also just and humane.

Abstract

Leadership and leaders are sometimes misunderstood and simply equated with rulers or officials. In fact, the terms are often used to refer to anyone holding a position within an organization or institution. While their meanings differ, there are also similarities. In general, a leader can be defined as someone who has the ability to influence others to achieve a common goal. Meanwhile, a ruler is an individual who holds authority or power to govern a region or community. Although these two roles are often associated with power, their substance differs significantly. In this paper, the author focuses more on leadership than on authority. Leadership is understood more broadly, reflecting its role in business organizations and its challenges. Furthermore, the author attempts to describe the criteria for a true leader in managing a business organization.
