Abstract

An unstable marital relationship, including an Islamic spouse, opens up opportunities for extramarital affairs. This study aimed to understand the dynamics of the relationship between a Muslim husband and wife who face a wife’s infidelity. This research uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. The subject criterion is a Muslim wife who has had an affair and is still married. Three subjects were selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data collection using a semi-structured interview. The results show that the background of the wife’s infidelity is multi-factor. Marital relations reflect the interdependence of husband and wife. This relationship becomes more dynamic and complex because of the presence of a third person. During an affair, the relationship is under an actor’s control. The relationship transforms into a controlling partner after the affair. Wives initiate nonmutual relations manifested in permissive behavior towards husbands as an effort to atone for guilt and maintain a marriage. The research has theoretical implications for religion and supports the effect of social norms in reading the interdependence of marital relations between Islamic husband and wife.

Abstract

This article explores the self-identity dynamics of Generation Z habaib lovers in Indonesia. Data were collected through 60 to 120 minutes of in-depth interviews with ten members of Habib-led assemblies identified as part of Generation Z (aged 12-27 years) selected through a purposive sampling technique. A qualitative approach was chosen, with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) with the help of NVivo 12 software to organize the data. Three subordinate themes emerged: the motivation to become a habaib lover, the process of searching for self-identity, and cohesiveness towards the habaib assembly. These themes are related to the formation of self-identity in Generation Z. This study concludes that the self-identity of the youth members of the community is shaped and catalyzed by the meaning of holiness of the habaib as a prophet's descendant figure. The findings contribute to developing the concept of Muslim youth self-identity through empirical studies on adolescent self-identity formation.

Abstract

This study was requested by victims of gender-based violence (GBV) and intimate partner violence (IPV), who wanted their voices to be heard. They were not interested in their identities being revealed, but they only wanted to share their stories to expose some rot by high-profile people. This paper sought to explore the meanings that these victims attach to the experiences of GBV and IPV in cases where perpetrators are well-to-do, highly respected persons occupying positions of authority in recognized establishments. Six (6) IPV victims, selected using the purposive sampling method, participated in the study. They were interviewed, and their text data was analyzed. The results show that some high-status people perpetrate GBV and IPV, covering the known types of IPV and generating two new ones of IPV extending to the victim’s family and threats to divorce their victim. The paper recommends monitoring and evaluating high-status people and also bars GBV and IPV perpetrators from practicing in high-profile trades.

Abstract

The policy of moving the national capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan has caused pros and cons. The government is trying to equalize the economy. However, the younger generation, namely students, are still plagued by problems, namely quarter-life crisis, which has an impact on their mental health. This study examines the role of meaningfulness of life on the quarter-life crisis in students living in Indonesia’s new capital city. This research design is a simple linear regression with purposive sampling to 511 students (n = 511) who study or come from East Kalimantan. Data was collected through Robbinson’s Developmental Crisis Questionnaire (DCQ-12) Scale instrument and Stegger’s Meaning in Life Questionnaire scale students. The results showed a significant effect of meaning in life on quarter-life crisis in college students. However, there are differences in the influence of its aspects, namely the presence of meaning and searching for meaning aspects of a quarter-life crisis. Therefore, individuals find significant value in undergoing a crisis to rise to become new individuals who are meaningful in life.

Abstract

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) serves as a challenge for women globally, with a never-ending struggle with Alexithymia and mental health problems. To assess Alexithymia in women diagnosed with PCOS and the mediating effect of coping strategies emotion-focused coping (EFC), problem-focused coping (PFC), and dysfunctional coping (DC) between Alexithymia and mental health problems (anxiety, depression, behavior control, and positive affect) among women diagnosed with PCOS living in Islamabad, Pakistan. This mediation study was conducted in Islamabad. A hundred women with PCOS were approached for this study through various OB/Gynae clinics and fertility groups on social media. Participants completed the Perth Alexithymia Scale, Brief Cope Inventory, and Mental Health Inventory. The results suggest that significant mediation exists of EFC (p = .09) between Alexithymia and anxiety, EFC (p = .02) between Alexithymia and depression, EFC (p = .01) between alexithymia and behavior control in addition, significant mediation of EFC (p = .04) exists between Alexithymia and positive affect. Coping (EFC, PFC, and DC) partially mediates between Alexithymia and mental health problems (anxiety, depression, behavior control, and positive affect) among women diagnosed with PCOS. Further analysis suggests that DCS has a negative mediating effect between Alexithymia and mental health problems (M-anxiety = -.0465; p = .13, M-depression = -.0461; p < .01, M-behavior control = -.0431; p < .01 and M-positive affect = .0333; p = .02). The mediating result is significant for EFC between alexithymia and mental health problems whereas, PFC partially mediates and DC has a significant negative mediating effect between Alexithymia and mental health problems among women with PCOS.

Abstract

Accidents are often caused by the driver himself, other people, or even the circumstances while driving. Even emotions influence behavior while driving. Individual factors relate to personality type. This research aims to determine the influence of agreeableness and neuroticism personality types on driving risks mediated by driving safety attitudes. The methods used in this research are experiments and surveys. The experimental tool used in this research is a driving simulator with the help of Urban Driving software. The experimental group was treated with a traffic volume and pedestrian density of 75%, and the control group was treated with a traffic volume of 50%. The measurement instruments used in this study consisted of a measure of risky driving behavior, a measure of aggressive driving behavior, a measure of agreeableness and neuroticism from the Big Five Scale, and attitudes towards safe driving. Thirty participants in this study were divided into two groups, namely the experimental and the control groups, with 15 participants. Based on the regression results of each group. The regression results show an influence of agreeableness and neuroticism mediated by driving safety attitudes on driving risks in the experimental and control groups; however, both groups have indirect impacts. These results prove that personality type greatly influences driving risk, mediated by driving safety attitudes.

Abstract

Traffic police are responsible for maintaining order and safety on the roads, which involves a series of tasks that are not always easy to perform. Despite this, members of the traffic police remain loyal in carrying out their crucial duties because of the positive psychological conditions that members have, giving rise to positive perceptions of the traffic police in carrying out their duties. This study is intended to determine the relationship between psychological capital and perceived organizational support in police members in the traffic unit. The method used by researchers is quantitative with a sampling technique, namely simple random sampling. One hundred five traffic police members became participants in this study. Data analysis of the results of this study was carried out using a simple regression test, which showed acceptance of the proposed hypothesis. Based on the results of the data analysis, there is a relationship between psychological capital and perceived organizational support for police officers in the traffic unit. These results can be seen from the contribution value between psychological capital and perceived organizational support, which is 53%. This research confirms the importance of one’s positive psychological state to increase perceived organizational support.
