Abstract

This article aims to discuss the design of a web-based Bugis Midwife application as a learning medium for normal childbirth care for lecturers in terms of improving the skills of providing normal delivery care and filling out student partographs and SOAP before going to the field. The type of research used in this research is Research and Development (RnD). The test analysis uses the experimental design model One Group pretest - posttest Design to see whether the application of web-based Bugis Midwives can be better in improving the provision of normal delivery care for students, with a sample of 40 students divided into two groups, a small sample of 10 people and a sample 30 people then analyzed the data using the Wilcoxon Test on SPSS. The results of the posttest after using the application for 3 weeks showed that there were 28 students who scored above 75 with the pass category (93.33%) and there were 2 students who scored below 75 with the category of still needing guidance (6.66%). Furthermore, based on the Wilcoxon test, the results obtained were P value 0.00 <0.05, which means that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores with the pretest average value of 74 with a sufficiently increased category in the posttest score to 82 in the good category. Based on the analysis of the test results, there is an increase in student learning outcomes on the post-test scores, so the web-based learning media application of the Bugis Midwife is more effective in increasing the knowledge and skills of students.

Abstract

The paper deals with the communication peculiarities of mentally retarded adolescents, the maturity of motivational, operational and cognitive components of their communication. A carried out empirical study made it possible to assess the extent and quality of communication components in the adolescents with mental retardation. Using theoretical and empirical research methods, features of the functioning of the motivational, operational and cognitive communication components were defined. The motivational component helps to identify personal and social needs that determine the communication of a personality, the operational one – communicative behavior that meets the society behavior pattern standards and is carried out by means of self-regulation; the cognitive one – communicative competence and culture, which are determined by communicative qualities, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The research results give grounds for arguing that the mentally retarded adolescents’ communication is insufficiently mature, in other words, it is characterized by dominant behavior forms with negative attitude towards peers, low need for interaction, affective behavior manifestations, proneness to conflicts, limited communication skills; increased level of aggressiveness, which is expressed in affective, frustrated forms of deviations in emotional-volitional sphere; immaturity of communicative means of making contacts. The low level of communication components maturity results in significant difficulties in interaction, which in turn affects person’s further socialization and integration into the society.

Abstract

The onslaught of the Coronavirus-19 disease around the world has shaken the physical and mental well-being of the global citizenry. The student populace in particular faces added burdens and struggles in light of the pandemic due to the abrupt shift in learning modality and educational delivery to cope with the "new normal." Hence, this study aims to probe the relationship between self-confidence and self-efficacy among the randomly selected sixty (60) Grade 12 students of the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines while engaging themselves in online learning amidst COVID-19 through a descriptive correlational study. Data were gathered online using valid and reliable 4-point adapted Likert-type survey questionnaires. Results revealed that both self-confidence (x ̅= 2.61, SD= 0.84), and self-efficacy (x = 2.83, SD= 0.80) were described as high. Pearson's r correlation was also found to be significant, r (58) = .2144, p = .000059, p<0.05, which led to the rejection of the null hypothesis and led to the conclusion with at least 95% confidence that there is a moderately high positive correlation (r=0.50) between the levels of self-confidence and self-efficacy among the students while engaging in online learning. It is recommended that schools should instill policies to augment students' self-confidence and self-efficacy levels to guarantee optimal learning outcomes despite the current setting. It is also recommended that future researchers explore the same variables in public schools and far-flung areas to discover the conditional differences amidst the similarity of the shared experiences during the pandemic time.

Abstract

An empirical study was conducted to determine the relationship between higher education and environmental management. Through the multi-stage sampling procedure, the representative sample of 180 respondents were selected for the study. Primary data were obtained with the aid of questionnaire. Data were subjected to univariate probit regression analysis. Results revealed a positive relationship between environmental management and higher education. Findings showed that tertiary education was significant at one percent level suggesting that people who have acquired higher education were more likely to adopt and apply environmental management practices and techniques. Findings further revealed that the variable, no formal education, was negative and significant (P<0.05) indicating that persons without formal education were less likely to imbibe environmental management measures. Supportive policies and institutions which provide access to training and information (awareness and media sensitization) that will expand the opportunities of the poor to invest in environmental improvements are required. Policies to promote sound environmental management and protect the environmental assets through higher education would be a rational decision. The poor with low education must be seen first as part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
