Abstract

This study explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) with Natural Language Processing (NLP) language management in collaboration with Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) which produces modern language modeling techniques such as Word Embeddings, N-Gram, Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), Transformer Models, Generative Pre-trainde Transformer (GPT) and its variants, such as Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) in carrying out Quranic understanding activities. The success of AI with its NLP has been proven to be able to understand the Quran well. However, there are several challenges and limitations that cannot be done while still requiring the role of humans because they are dealing with the text of the Qur'an in classical Arabic with its morphology, syntax and semantic complexity. As well as concerns that algorithms may not be able to understand the cultural, historical, and theological nuances that often affect the interpretation of the verse. Therefore, it is appropriate to conduct research to measure the level of understanding of the Quran carried out by AI using the Bloom taxonomy instrument. Using a qualitative approach and literature study related to AI features with its NLP, Bloom's taxonomy combines the two. The results of this study show that AI capabilities when measured with Bloom's taxonomy are fully achieved at level 1, namely Remembering, while at the level of Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, the ability is limited. And not able to do it at the level of Evaluating and Creating.

Abstract

In the ma’nā-cum-maghzā approach to Qur'anic interpretation, Sahiron states that the paradigm that builds this approach is the absence of nasakh in the Qur'an. This raises questions about the existence of verses that are considered mansūkhah in the Qur'an, which for most tafsir scholars is positioned as a consensus. This article seeks to examine the reliability of the ma’nā-cum-maghzā approach, especially in the meaning and significance of verses that are considered mansūkhah by most scholars of interpretation and reveal the significance and meaning of QS. Al-Baqarah verse 240 regarding the length of the iddah period for women whose husbands die is one full year. This research is a type of library research with a ma’nā-cum-maghzā approach to the mansūkhah verse which is analyzed using content analysis. This study shows that, first, the ma'nā-cum-maghzā approach is quite reliable in interpreting QS. Al-Baqarah verse 240 because there are still scholars who interpret it based on negating nasakh, such as al-Tabari and al-Razi. In addition, the ma'nā-cum-maghzā approach reinforces the universal values contained in the Qur'an. Second, QS. Al-Baqarah verse 240 is a way for the Rasulullah Saw., gradually, to position women with dignity both economically and socially. This study contributes to strengthening the ma'nā-cum-maghzā approach, which can be a methodological alternative in reading verses that have been understood as mansūkhah, while also opening up space for a more contextual reading of the Qur'an that is gender-equitable and oriented towards universal ethical values.

Abstract

The interpretation of polygamy in Q.S. an-Nisa’ (4): 3 remains a contested discourse, driven by divergent epistemological and methodological frameworks between classical and contemporary scholars. This library research aims to trace the epistemological evolution of these interpretations and analyze the shifting paradigms across different eras by comparing classical commentaries, modern journals, and relevant literature. The findings reveal two primary trajectories: first, classical epistemology is heavily influenced by patriarchal culture and lacks gender-justice considerations, resulting in a textualist and subjective-patriarchal orientation. Second, contemporary epistemology emphasizes gender equality and social reality while rejecting patriarchal ideology, giving rise to a contextualist and objective-gender-neutral approach. This shift underscores that socio-cultural contexts and methodological frameworks significantly redefine the interpretation of polygamy within the Islamic intellectual tradition.

Abstract

The year 2024 is a political year in Indonesia, with general elections. As a mandate to be fulfilled, becoming a leader, holding power, or holding public office has the potential to be disastrous for the region they govern if carried out by those lacking the necessary competence and skills. This article aims to explain the meaning and impact of power based on the interpretation of QS. Ali ‘Imran (3): 26. This study uses contextual analysis as part of the study of the Semantics of the Qur'an, because it assumes the relationship of certain texts with their historical and linguistic contexts, as well as a socio-textual approach, which connects the study of interpretation with the socio-political concept in the Islamic treasury. The conclusion of this study is that, based on its original meaning, power belongs to God universally and absolutely, and is also part of His will. As the owner of power, God grants and/or withdraws it from humans, based on all His goodness. Power can impact the humiliation and glory of those who exercise it, so they must exercise it with humility, full responsibility, and complete trust (faith) in its absolute owner. The contextualization of these three qualities gives rise to the nature of a leader as a servant of the society interests, just and wise, open to criticism, wise in making decisions based on the principle of deliberation, high integrity and accountability, and able to cooperate with others harmoniously.

Abstract

Sufi exegesis of the isyārĭ type continues to be a subject of debate, as it is often regarded as subjective, weak in terms of verifiable transmission, and potentially prone to departing from the literal (ẓāhir) meaning of the Qur’an. This article responds to these concerns by examining how Abū ‘Abd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamĭ (d. 412 H/1021 M) constructed an epistemic foundation for mystical interpretation in his work Ḥaqā’iq al-Tafsĭr, focusing specifically on the case of the muqaṭṭa’āt (disjointed letters). This study employs a qualitative library-based approach, using Ḥaqā’iq al-Tafsĭr and al-Sulamĭ’s works related to the malāmatiyyah tradition as primary sources, supported by scholarship on the historical development of Sufism in Khurāsān and the discourse on the science of letters. The analysis is conducted through qualitative content analysis and historical-contextual interpretation using an operational A-B-C coding scheme. The findings demonstrate that al-Sulamĭ’s reading of the muqaṭṭa’āt is not merely a form of individual symbolism, but rather a structured epistemic practice articulated through a stratification of meaning between ẓāhir and isyārah, spiritual authorization mediated through networks of early Sufi authority, and an ethical-spiritual validation oriented toward transformative experience. This article highlights the contribution of this interpretive model while also acknowledging its limitations, particularly the requirement of coherence with the ẓāhir meaning and adherence to the discipline of spiritual propriety (adab).

Abstract

This article explores the dynamics of ghanīmah, the wealth gained by Muslim armies from their enemies during warfare and its modern-day context, through the interpretive lens of Ibnu Ashur. It further explores how principles derived from ghanīmah can inform contemporary economic policy, address issues of inequality and foster social solidarity after conflict. By linking historical interpretations of ghanīmah to modern economic challenges, this study offers valuable insights into the potential of Islamic economic principles to contribute to a fairer global economy. This research is qualitative in nature with a descriptive-analytical approach, with the methodology used being library research, with primary sources being Ibnu Ashur's Tafsir al-Taḥrīr wa al-Tanwīr, and secondary sources including books, journals, scientific articles, and other relevant documents. Ghanīmah goes beyond mere material acquisition, serving as a mechanism for wealth redistribution aimed at restoring social and economic balance in the post-conflict context. Ibnu Ashur's analysis emphasizes the importance of justice and social responsibility, especially in protecting vulnerable groups such as orphans, the poor, and relatives of the Prophet Muhammad.
