Abstract

During this discussion, gender is only been about women because in the past (before the 19th century) women were not respected. So that the existence of men and their roles in the present (21st century AD) have received less attention to be studied as a special education, even though it is clear in the Qur'an, Surah An-Nisa verse 34, that "men are leaders for women" as Yusuf Ali translated qawwamah: men are protectors and maintainers for women. In order to realize the men reflected in the verse of QS. An-Nisa '[4]: 34, an in-depth study is needed on the biological and emotional side of men or what is commonly called masculinity. The concept of masculinity is not static and can change. Masculinity is closely related to interpersonal relationships, namely interactions with women, children and other men. This article aims to present a discourse analysis of how language and discourse shape the construction of masculinity from an Islamic perspective.

Abstract

The notary profession plays an important role in maintaining the credibility of notarial practice. The existence of Law No. 2 of 2014 concerning the Position of Notary has not yet been able to fully uphold this credibility, as in reality, issues related to improper recording practices in Indonesia often referred to as bogus records are still frequently encountered. This study aims to interpret notarial practice based on principles from the Qur'an, which emphasize the actualization of notaries as professionals. A qualitative-interpretative method was used, guiding the researcher to interpret the professional conduct of notaries. In conducting this interpretation, the researcher refers to QS. Al-Baqarah (2): 282, At-Taubah (9): 119, An-Nahl (16): 90, and Al-Ahzab (33): 72. The findings of this study indicate that Qur'anic values such as honesty (sidq), justice (‘adl), and trustworthiness (amānah) are essential in shaping the professional ethics of notaries. The implementation of these values can strengthen the integrity of the notary profession serving as a moral guideline in carrying out their duties not merely as an administrative obligation. This study proposes the need for integrating Qur'anic values into notary professional education and reinforcing ethical code supervision to create a more moral and civilized legal system.

Abstract

This article aims to examine how the Qur'an views the phenomenon of buzzer behavior on social media with an analysis of the interpretation of an-Nur (24): 11 according to the interpretation of Al-Alūsĭ , Alūsĭ seeing the shift in the role of buzzers becoming dangerous if used to create or spread hoax news and hate speech that triggers disputes and divisions. This study uses a library research method. The results of this study indicate that there is no term that mentions the word buzzer in the Qur'an, but its values and actions are explained in the Qur'an. Buzzer is a profession that was initially legal and has a positive impact if used in goodness such as promoting a brand so that it becomes a form of taawun or helping each other. However, if buzzers are used to express hatred, spread news that contains elements of lies, then it is not allowed. In the interpretation of Al-Alūsĭ , one of the negative behaviors of buzzers is recorded in the Qur'an, Surah An-Nur (24): 11. Al-Alūsĭ emphasizes three segments in the explanation of this verse, namely the perpetrators of spreading false news, recommendations in responding to false news and the consequences and punishments for the perpetrators of spreading false news. In this verse, the negative behavior of buzzers has similarities with a group of people who masterminded the spread of slander against Aisyah Ra among Muslims in Medina.

Abstract

The issue of tawasul is often a point of debate among the public, both lay and learned. This difference is mainly related to tawasul through the glory of someone, both living and deceased, including tawasul to the Prophet Muhammad saw.. In the Islamic tradition , not all forms of tawasul are allowed. The Qur'an discusses the concept of tawasul in Surah Al-Maidah (5): 35 and Al-Isra' (17): 57, which is then interpreted variously by the mufasirs. This study aims to examine the dimension of tawasul in the interpretation of the Qur'an through a comparative analysis of two different styles of interpretation, namely Sufistic interpretation (Laṭā’if al-Isyārāt by al-Qusyairĭ) and theological interpretation (al-Tafsīr al-Kabīr by Ibn Taymiyyah). The research method used is library research with descriptive and comparative approaches. The researcher describes the interpretation of the two mufasirs on the verses of tawasul, then compares the similarities and differences in their approach to the concept of wasilah. The results show that al-Qusyairĭ and Ibn Taymiyyah have an understanding in permitting tawasul through good deeds and faith in Allah and His Messenger. However, there are fundamental differences in their approach to tawasul through the intermediary of creatures. Al-Qusyairĭ in Laṭā’if al-Isyārāt emphasizes that tawasul encompasses a broader spiritual dimension, where intermediaries such as the Prophet and the saints can be a means of getting closer to Allah, as long as they maintain sincerity and faith in worship. Meanwhile, Ibn Taymiyyah in al-Tafsīr al-Kabīr rejects any form of tawasul that involves humans as intermediaries, asserting that the legitimate approach to tawasul is through direct prayer to Allah, without intermediaries other than faith and good deeds.

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of the concept of mindfulness in the Qur’an to the phenomenon of quarter-life crisis experienced by young Muslims aged 18-29 years. Quarter-life crisis is characterized by anxiety, confusion, and restlessness related to life goals, identity, and personal achievement. Using the thematic interpretation analysis method, this study examines five pairs of Qur’anic mindfulness concepts related to the symptoms of quarter-life crisis: al-murāqabah with al-khauf, at-taqwā with aḍ-ḍaiq, aż-żikr with al-ḥuzn, al-khusyū’ with al-halū’, and at-tawakkal with aḍ-ḍaiq. The findings show that the five pairs of concepts are integrated in a holistic approach based on al-iḥsān that harmonizes the dimensions of insāniyyah (humanity), rūḥāniyyah (spirituality), and rabbāniyyah (divinity). The novelty of this research lies in the development of a Qur’anic mindfulness framework that not only offers practical strategies for managing psychological symptoms of quarter-life crisis, but also provides a transformative spiritual dimension. Based on the research results, the Qur’anic mindfulness approach centered on al-iḥsān has the potential to shift the crisis phase of the young generation into a valuable spiritual development momentum, and contributes to integrating Islamic spiritual values with the latest developmental psychology studies.

Abstract

This study explores the rational approach in Qur’anic interpretation by Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy, as found in his work Tafsir Al-Qur’anul Majid an-Nur, particularly in relation to verses about prophetic miracles and stories of past nations. Traditionally, Qur’anic commentators have interpreted such verses by relying on classical reports, including Hadith and Israiliyat narratives. However, Hasbi offers an alternative, more rational and contextual approach. This research employs a qualitative method with a textual analysis of Hasbi’s tafsir. The study focuses on his interpretation of the miracles of Prophet Jesus (Ali ‘Imran: 49), the affliction of Prophet Ayyub (al-Anbiya’: 83 and Sad: 41), Prophet Abraham and the birds (Ali ‘Imran: 260), Prophet Sulaiman’s (Solomon) ability to understand the language of animals (al-Naml: 16–20), and the story of Uzair (al-Baqarah: 259). The findings reveal that Hasbi attempts to rationalize these verses through engagement with modern scientific perspectives, including references to medical science and interpretative deviations from literal meanings. Nevertheless, he also incorporates traditional narratives, including Israiliyyat, as supplementary material. The study concludes that Hasbi developed a model of interpretation that integrates rational reasoning with classical exegetical traditions, making his approach particularly relevant in contemporary academic discourse.

Abstract

Traditional gender roles persistently position men as primary breadwinners and decision-makers, while relegating women to domestic and caregiving responsibilities, thereby reinforcing systemic gender inequality and restricting women’s access to equitable education and employment opportunities. This study employs an inclusive hermeneutical approach to Qur’anic exegesis—integrating textual analysis, contextual considerations, and principles of openness—to reconceptualize gender dynamics in Madurese society, where patriarchal interpretations remain entrenched. Through descriptive-analytical methodology, the research demonstrates that an inclusive interpretive framework, responsive to contemporary sociocultural conditions, offers a transformative understanding of gender roles by harmonizing religious hermeneutics with local realities. The findings highlight the approach’s efficacy in advancing more equitable and contextually relevant solutions, thereby fostering a more just and humane gender paradigm in Madura.

Abstract

One of problem discussed among scholars including orientalists is the difference in qira'at which has implications for interpretation in various aspects. This study aims to explain some opinions of orientalist scholars and Muslim scholars in response to the difference in qira'at. In addition, the study aims to see and analyze the implications of the difference in qira'at in several interpretations. The research method used is a qualitative method based on library research data with a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings of this study state that according to orientalists, the difference in qira'at will cause contradiction and chaos in determining the law. Meanwhile, according to Muslim scholars, differences in qira'at are a form of variation that will not alter the legal substance of the Quran. Besides that, there will be no conflict, change, or even chaos, because the Prophet conveyed qira'at according to the dialects of each tribe and nation. However, the difference in qira'at will have implications for four things, namely theological problems, fiqhiyah problems, gender equality problems, and miracle of the Qur’an itself.

Abstract

The study of Qur’anic exegesis is generally divided into two categories: interpretations considered sound (al-aṣĭl) and ṡose regarded as deviant (ad-dakhĭl). Every exegete’s work inevitably reflects this distinction. This study aims to investigates al-‘Uṡaymĭn’s interpretation of Surah al-Mā’idah verse 64 in Aḥkām min al-Qur'ān al-Karĭm. In interpreting this verse, he does not employ ta’wĭl (figurative reinterpretation). Instead, he prioritizes a textual reading, avoiding taḥrĭf (distortion of meaning), ta‘ṭĭl (negation), takyĭf (describing ṡe modality of God’s attributes), tamṡĭl (likeness), or tashbĭh (anṡropomorphism). Al-‘Uṡaymĭn is a follower of the teachings of Muḥammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhāb (Wahhabism). Within Wahhabi doctrine, the use of rational interpretation for the mutashābihāt (ambiguous verses) is generally rejected. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with theory of al-dakhĭl and al-aṣĭl to investigates the validity of his interpretation. This study found that al-Uṡaimin’s interpretation on al-Maidah: 64 indicates as deviant (al-dakhĭl). This is due to his rejection of ta’wĭl and the influence of Wahhabism, which tends to promote literalism and is associated with tajsĭm, tashbĭh, takyĭf, and tamṡĭl. His interpretation relies too rigidly on the outward literal meaning while dismissing the direct use of reason in interpreting ambiguous verses.
