Abstract

This community service program addresses the lack of public understanding regarding the management of tabarru' funds in Islamic insurance and their significance within the framework of Sharia principles. Tabarru' funds, characterized by mutual cooperation and solidarity, are pivotal to Islamic insurance and differentiate it from conventional systems. However, limited public awareness has hindered the optimal use and adoption of these products.Through structured activities such as workshops, interactive discussions, and case study analyses, this program aimed to enhance participants' understanding of tabarru' funds and their role in fostering economic resilience. Conducted in collaboration with Islamic insurance practitioners and community leaders in Medan, the program emphasized the practical benefits of tabarru' funds and their alignment with the Fatwa of the National Sharia Council-Majelis Ulama Indonesia (DSN-MUI) No. 53/DSN-MUI/III/2006. The program resulted in a notable improvement in participants' literacy regarding tabarru' funds, as evidenced by a 45% increase in understanding through pre-test and post-test assessments. Participants expressed enhanced confidence in utilizing Islamic insurance products and a deeper appreciation for the principles of mutual aid and financial solidarity. Beyond individual learning outcomes, the program strengthened community engagement with Islamic financial principles, contributing to inclusive and sustainable economic practices. This initiative highlights the importance of educational efforts in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications of Islamic finance. By addressing specific challenges in tabarru' fund literacy, it lays the foundation for a more informed and financially resilient society

Abstract

This study examines the advantages and disadvantages of using Grammarly as perceived by students. Academic writing requires attention to language structure, yet students often face challenges due to limited knowledge of effective language principles. Grammarly, a widely used tool among students, assists in identifying sentence structure issues. This study seeks to identify Grammarly’s pros and cons by analyzing student experiences and feedback. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through a questionnaire completed by 25 students. The results indicate that while Grammarly is useful for grammar and structure checks, 89.5% of the participants acknowledge certain limitations affecting its effectiveness. Specifically, 50.8% of the feedback highlights these disadvantages, while 45.5% views Grammarly’s features positively. Additionally, 42.9% of students express mixed feelings about Grammarly’s benefits, showing both agreement and disagreement with the software’s effectiveness. In summary, although Grammarly provides valuable support in academic writing, students identify both strengths and limitations, with some expressing reservations about the tool's ability to fully meet their language-checking needs. The findings suggest that while Grammarly can be beneficial, its effectiveness varies, and it may not entirely replace the need for manual review.

Abstract

Bustan Tsamrotul Qolbis (BTQ) School is located in Sidodadi Ramunia Village, Beringin District, Deli Serdang Regency. BTQ is an Integrated Islamic School that upholds Islamic values, including cleanliness. However, based on the results of the observations made, many students still do not understand the concept of PHBS and do not care about the cleanliness of their classrooms. Thus, service regarding PHBS was carried out for BTQ students. The method of approach carried out in conducting community service is interactive lectures and discussions with the school community, such as teachers, students, and canteen managers at BTQ schools. The activity began by filling out the participant attendance list, distributing pre-tests, delivering materials, playing videos and discussion sessions, distributing post-tests, giving a gallon of taps and stacking shelves, as well as group photos and healthy snacks. The results of statistical analysis of measurements showed that the average pre-test score of a total of 40 participants was 14.53 with a standard deviation value of 2,944. Meanwhile, the average score of the post-test is 17.40 with a standard deviation of 2.134. Furthermore, the results of the Paired Sample t-test obtained a p-value of <0.001, then H0 was rejected. This means that there is an influence between the implementation of the training and the level of knowledge of students. Thus, it is hoped that community service participants can apply PHBS in their daily lives and can maintain the handwashing facilities that have been provided by the service team.

Abstract

Digital marketing is one of the marketing methods used by MSME actors to develop their businesses. The increased use of the internet has led people to engage in modern marketing and abandon conventional marketing methods. This community service activity aims to help the problems faced by Tan Collection MSMEs. The solution offered in this activity is to implement digital marketing using Instagram. Through activities involving interviews and socialization, this aims to provide knowledge about the basic concepts of digital marketing, effective strategies, in enhancing online marketing through social media. Some digital marketing strategies that can be applied by Tan Collection MSMEs include planning a consistent posting schedule, selecting engaging content, utilizing features like Stories and Reels, or conducting live sessions. Through this community service activity, it is hoped that it can become knowledge and insight for SMEs in developing their businesses.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to strengthen cultural identity through the introduction and practice of North Sumatran batik among Japanese Nihongo Partners and local Indonesian participants. The program addressed the growing need for cross-cultural understanding and cultural preservation in the era of globalization. The method employed was participatory and experiential learning, which included demonstrations, guided batik workshops, and cultural dialogues. Participants were introduced to the history, techniques, and symbolic meanings of batik patterns unique to North Sumatra. The activity not only enhanced participants' technical skills in traditional textile production but also deepened their appreciation for Indonesian heritage. Japanese participants, in particular, reported meaningful cultural insights and creative satisfaction through hands-on engagement. The outcomes of the program included increased intercultural awareness, the preservation of local batik knowledge, and opportunities for community-based entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the initiative supported environmental sustainability by promoting eco-friendly dyeing methods. In conclusion, the program proved effective in bridging cultural gaps and inspiring mutual respect through shared creative experiences. It also contributed to the promotion of batik as a symbol of cultural diplomacy and sustainable heritage education.

Abstract

The International Cultural Festival - Indonesia Negeriku, held at the Prefectural University of Kumamoto, Japan, in July 2023, aimed to introduce Indonesia's rich culture to the Japanese community, particularly school students in Kumamoto. The event featured various aspects of Indonesian culture, including traditional dance, music, cuisine, and angklung and batik performances. The festival not only introduced Indonesian culture but also promoted cultural diplomacy in an engaging and interactive manner. Evaluation through observation and interviews with visitors revealed that the activity increased their understanding and appreciation of Indonesia's cultural diversity. The use of digital media to showcase Indonesian flora and fauna further enriched participants' experiences, reinforced Indonesia's positive image in the eyes of the Japanese public, and strengthened relations between nations. By involving active community participation and government support, the festival succeeded in creating a platform for cultural dialogue that enhanced global understanding of Indonesia.

Abstract

The Aksata Pangan program aims to reduce food waste by rescuing surplus food from restaurants, hotels, and bakeries that is still safe for consumption, and then distributing it to vulnerable communities in Medan City, such as orphanages and community centers. The program involves collaboration with the private sector and promotes public awareness of the importance of reducing food waste. During implementation, more than 500 kilograms of food were saved and distributed, providing direct benefits to over 10 orphanages and community centers. A social impact evaluation was conducted through observations, interviews, and questionnaires, which showed that the program succeeded in increasing access to food for people in need and raising awareness about more efficient food management. The results of this program indicate that collaboration between the private sector and non-profit organizations has great potential to reduce food waste and improve social welfare. This program is also expected to serve as a model for sustainable, community-based food management in other regions.

Abstract

The rise of digitalization has significantly influenced consumer behavior in Indonesia, particularly with the growing popularity of online shopping. However, this shift also exposes consumers to a higher risk of fraud, particularly through misleading and deceptive advertising. This community service initiative was designed to address this issue by raising public awareness and educating online consumers about their legal rights and protections under Indonesian law. A qualitative descriptive method was used, supported by a juridical approach and a literature review of consumer protection laws, including the Indonesian Civil Code, Law No. 8/1999 on Consumer Protection, and the ITE Law. In addition to literature analysis, interviews and public perception surveys were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational intervention. The findings reveal a significant gap between legal provisions and public understanding, indicating that many consumers are unaware of their rights in digital transactions, making them vulnerable to fraud and misrepresentation. The community service program successfully bridged this knowledge gap by disseminating practical and accessible legal information to the public. The initiative also advocated for the strengthening of regulatory frameworks and encouraged cooperation between government agencies, businesses, and consumers to build a safer digital market environment. In conclusion, improving legal literacy among consumers and promoting proactive regulation are essential to protecting consumer rights in Indonesia’s rapidly growing e-commerce landscape. This program highlights the role of preventive education as a critical component of consumer protection in the digital age, emphasizing the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration and continuous public engagement.

Abstract

Improving the quality of education in Indonesia, particularly in English language teaching, is crucial as English is key to addressing the challenges of globalization. In this context, the capacity of English teachers plays a vital role, as they are the primary link between students and the English language skills that open access to global resources. However, English language teaching in Indonesia faces various challenges, including inadequate facilities, competency mismatches among teachers, and limited access to continuous professional development. To address these challenges, this training program aims to enhance the capacity of English teachers by developing their pedagogical skills, deepening their understanding of subject matter, and integrating technology into English instruction. The program includes various activities, such as interactive workshops and online training, designed to introduce innovative teaching methods and improve the use of technology in the teaching and learning process. The expected outcome of these activities is an improvement in the quality of English teaching in Indonesia, which will in turn enhance students' English proficiency and better prepare them to compete at a global level. Additionally, with increased teacher capacity, the program is also expected to strengthen the reputation of schools and expand career opportunities for students in the future.

Abstract

Pencegahan stunting merupakan salah satu prioritas utama pembangunan nasional di Indonesia, dengan tujuan menurunkan prevalensi stunting menjadi 14% pada tahun 2024. Penelitian dengan metode Deskriptif Kuantitatif, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat, khususnya ibu hamil dan ibu yang memiliki balita, mengenai manfaat daun kelor dalam mencegah stunting. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 16 ibu bayi balita. Penelitian pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa KKN 136 UINSU di Desa Tanjung Mulia meliputi edukasi langsung melalui penyebaran poster, diskusi, dan demonstrasi pembuatan puding daun kelor. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa 93,75% peserta memahami pengolahan daun kelor, dan 87,5% peserta mengetahui takaran konsumsi yang tepat. Sebelum edukasi, 10 dari 16 ibu balita tidak mengetahui manfaat daun kelor, namun setelah kegiatan, 15 dari 16 peserta memahami cara pengolahan dan manfaatnya. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat tentang pentingnya gizi yang baik untuk mencegah stunting pada anak.Stunting prevention is one of the national development priorities in Indonesia, with the aim of reducing the prevalence of stunting to 14% by 2024. Research using a Quantitative Descriptive method, this research aims to increase public knowledge, especially pregnant women and mothers with toddlers, regarding the benefits of Moringa leaves. in preventing stunting. The sample used in this research was 16 mothers of toddlers. Community service research carried out by KKN 136 UINSU students in Tanjung Mulia Village included direct education through distributing posters, discussions and presentations on making Moringa leaf pudding. The evaluation results showed that 93.75% of participants understood the processing of Moringa leaves, and 87.5% of participants knew the correct consumption dosage. Before the education, 10 out of 16 mothers of toddlers did not know the benefits of Moringa leaves, but after the activity, 15 out of 16 participants understood how to process it and its benefits. This activity is expected to increase public awareness about the importance of good nutrition to prevent stunting in children.
