Abstract

A qualitative approach method was used to write this article and information was gathered through literature review. The information obtained is then analyzed using qualitative content analysis methods in order to obtain data that is in accordance with the overall context of the article. This article is written to discuss some of the research that has been done related to the influence of online games on language acquisition and aims to uncover vocabulary obtained and confirm the factors that influence language acquisition. The conclusion obtained is that children are able to obtain some foreign words from playing online games, but children also have the potential to acquire vulgar words and use them without knowing the context of the whole word. The length of words, the frequency of word repetition, and the meaningfulness of words are factors that affect the process of acquiring children's language.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the practice of showing off, which is highlighting wealth, achievements, or lifestyle in the context of emotions conveyed through the “Marah-Marah” and “Ramah-Ramah” communities on the X social media platform. This research method uses descriptive qualitative data sources from both communities containing posts that describe showing off behavior and are driven by emotion. Data collection was done by observing interactions in the community and including supporting data, namely textual and visual. The results showed that different emotions between the two communities drove the explicit showing-off behavior performed by X users. In the Marah-Marah community, showing off is shown by mentioning luxury items with an emotional tone while in the Ramah-Ramah community showing off is shown by an achievement or one's ability towards something. This study concludes that showing off appears in both negative and positive contexts.

Abstract

Hate speech on social media has become an increasingly troubling phenomenon in community life. The rapid development of information and communication technology has led to the faster and wider dissemination of hate speech, with significant impacts on both individuals and groups targeted. This study aims to analyze the forms and patterns of hate speech using forensic linguistic approaches, particularly through lexical and grammatical semantic analysis. The method used is documentation, employing techniques such as reading, note-taking, and classifying tweets considered to contain elements of hate speech on social media, especially TikTok, within the categories of defamation, libel, and provocation. The results show that the most prevalent form of hate speech is insult, followed by libel and provocation. The language used in hate speech often undergoes semantic modification to demean the dignity of individuals, with emphasis on affixation, reduplication, and compositional structures within grammatical frameworks. This research provides important contributions to the development of legal protection policies for victims of hate speech on social media.

Abstract

This article examines the comparative morphology of inflection in Indonesian and English, aiming to identify structural and functional differences in the grammatical formation of verbs and nouns. The study employs a documentary method by collecting data from Indonesian and English corpora and applying descriptive-comparative analysis based on structural morphology and language typology theories. The findings indicate that English features a productive and complex inflectional system, with obligatory word form changes reflecting tense, person, and number. In contrast, Indonesian is analytic and lacks formal inflection, relying instead on contextual markers, auxiliary words, and other morphological processes such as reduplication to convey equivalent meanings. The discussion reveals that these differences reflect the fundamental typological nature of each language and affect sentence structure, meaning strategies, and practical implications in language learning and translation. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of understanding cross-morphological structures in linguistic studies and intercultural language applications.

Abstract

This study explores the intersection of gender representation and ecological values through a critical ecolinguistic analysis of the hashtag #ibukudietplastik featured on the Instagram account @griyaluhu. Grounded in Stibbe’s (2015) “stories we live by” framework, the research uses a descriptive qualitative method and employs critical discourse analysis to examine how language constructs ecological narratives and gendered roles in digital media. Primary data consists of captions and photographs from Instagram posts using the hashtag. The findings indicate that women particularly mothers are framed as key moral agents in environmental action, with their domestic behaviors valorized through positive evaluation. While these narratives promote ecological awareness and foster collective engagement, they may also reinforce traditional gender expectations by positioning sustainability as primarily a woman’s responsibility within the household. The study contributes to understanding how digital storytelling in environmental campaigns both empowers women and perpetuates patriarchal norms. This research offers insights into the dual function of Ecolinguistic narratives in shaping societal views on gender and sustainability.

Abstract

This paper examines the transitivity system in the Awig-Awig text of the Denpasar Indigenous Village (TAADAD) and how its patterns reflect the text’s communicative function and social role. As a form of customary law that governs social order in communal life, awig-awig presents a compelling subject for linguistic analysis. The study adopts the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics to explore how ideational meaning is realized through lexicogrammatical choices within the transitivity system, which comprises processes, participants, and circumstances. A qualitative, phenomenological approach is employed. Data were collected through close observation of language use in the awig-awig and analyzed in terms of the processes, participants, and circumstances present in each clause. The analysis reveals a predominance of relational processes, followed by material and existential ones. This suggests that the text emphasizes definitions, roles, and social relationships as a way of legitimizing norms and behaviors. The findings indicate that the transitivity patterns in the text support its primary function: to explain, guide, and reinforce the values upheld by the customary community.

Abstract

Deixis is part of pragmatics, which functions as a pointer. The pointer in question is any form of language used to refer to people, places, times, or specific situations. This study is highly dependent on the context and situation in a statement, so its use cannot be separated from the social and cultural background of the speaker. Cultural background is a major factor influencing the form and use of deictics. In line with this, Indonesia is known as a multicultural country with 718 regional languages, which certainly influences the forms of deictics. One form of the actualisation of regional language use can be seen in the arts, particularly in traditional literary works such as satua bali. In Balinese satua, sor singgih basa is generally used, which is a language variety that reflects differences in politeness levels. The existence of sor singgih basa influences the form of deictic expressions used, as their use is adapted to the social status and relationship between the speaker and the addressee in the story. This study uses a qualitative method with a Balinese satua entitled Pan Balang Tamak as data source. Data was collected through observation techniques and analysed using a qualitative approach. The analysed data consists of narrative excerpts and the utterances of the characters in the story. The results of the study indicate that two forms of deictic expressions were found: relational social deictic expressions and absolute social deictic expressions.

Abstract

In this era, a tendency for people to think practically has emerged, including in cultural practices, such as the implementation of the Tumpek Wariga ceremony as a concrete manifestation of maintaining the balance between humans and the universe. This study aims to determine the community's understanding of the implementation of Tumpek Wariga. The study used a qualitative study, a phenomenological approach through in-depth interviews, literature studies, and observations. The study was conducted in Keramas Village, Gianyar, with Hindu women as respondents who actively participated in the implementation of Tumpek Wariga. Six respondents were required to understand the offerings, the ceremony procession, and its philosophical meaning. The procession of wounding (nyekak) parts of trees in this ceremony is believed to have philosophical significance. A shift in values was found in the process of preparing the facilities, namely that it is not only farmers who carry out the ceremony and is not limited to plants that produce fruit and leaves. Millennials now strongly believe in the philosophical value of Tumpek Wariga and are relevant to preserve it. Efforts to preserve culture are carried out by introducing and involving children from an early age, integrating education in schools, and optimizing the role of subak, pekaseh and traditional villages.
