Abstract

One of the causes of the emergence of impoliteness is caused by government policies that are not in favor of the people in terms of decision making during the pandemic, one of which is the policy of implementing PCR. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data from this study are impolite strategies that are sourced from netizen comments on Instagram uploads related to government policies regarding PCR tests. In data collection, additional instruments were used, namely gadgets, notebooks, and stationery. Based on the results of the study, it was found that negative impoliteness became the dominant strategy used by netizens in the comments column. This shows that many people are disappointed and dissatisfied with the government's new policy regarding PCR.

Abstract

This research is intended as a pilot study to find out the implications of the dysarthria of the phoneme /r/ trill on the quality of other consonant phonemes produced at the same place of articulation. This study was designed using a descriptive quantitative-qualitative approach with field methods. In collecting data, the observation method was used to collect data in the form of consonant and vowel phonemes produced by 4 dysarthria samples and 4 non- dysarthria samples. The collected data were then analyzed using extralingual and intralingual comparison methods. The results of the study show that if the place of articulation where a sound is produced has a problem, then the problem will affect all the sounds produced in that place. The hard production of the alveolar trill /r/ phoneme in dysarthria sufferers has implications for the production of other alveolar sounds, namely /t/ and /d/ which become weaker and more nasal. Keywords: dysarthria; acoustic features; /r/ trill phoneme

Abstract

The title of this research is “Phrasal Verbs Found in Novel “They Both Die at The End” By Adam Silvera”. The data source of this research is the novel They Both Die at The End by Adam Silvera (2017). The problems investigated in this research are; what kind of phrasal verbs and what constituent structures are used for phrasal verbs in Adam Silvera’s They Both Die at The End? The theories applied are by Halliday and Matthiessen about phrasal verbs, and by Van Valin about tree diagrams. This research used the qualitative method. This research consisted of three steps. The first step was reading the novel. Furthermore, the data collection was conducted by note-taking. After that, the data were classified into their kind and their constituent structure. The result of the research showed that three kinds of phrasal verbs were found in Adam Silvera’s They Both Die at The End. The kinds are verb + adverb, verb + preposition, and verb + adverb + preposition. The constituent structure of each sentence with phrasal verbs showed that phrasal verbs can be transitive and intransitive. Transitive phrasal verbs mean that it requires a direct object. Transitive phrasal verbs can be separable which means the verb and particle are separated by a noun, and inseparable which means the verb and particle cannot be separated by a noun. Keywords: constituent; kind; phrasal verbs

The information, sentences, phrases or words in the packaging were collected by taking a picture. The English texts were compared with the Indonesian ones and classified based on their types of translation techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively using the theory of translation techniques. After data were analyzed, they were calculated to find what type of translation technique was dominant to be used in food and beverage packaging. The result of this research showed that translation techniques used in translating the words, expressions, sentences and information that contained in food and beverage packaging were literal, borrowing, amplification, description, reduction, and calque. Abstract

Deixis is part of pragmatics, which functions as a pointer. The pointer in question is any form of language used to refer to people, places, times, or specific situations. This study is highly dependent on the context and situation in a statement, so its use cannot be separated from the social and cultural background of the speaker. Cultural background is a major factor influencing the form and use of deictics. In line with this, Indonesia is known as a multicultural country with 718 regional languages, which certainly influences the forms of deictics. One form of the actualisation of regional language use can be seen in the arts, particularly in traditional literary works such as satua bali. In Balinese satua, sor singgih basa is generally used, which is a language variety that reflects differences in politeness levels. The existence of sor singgih basa influences the form of deictic expressions used, as their use is adapted to the social status and relationship between the speaker and the addressee in the story. This study uses a qualitative method with a Balinese satua entitled Pan Balang Tamak as data source. Data was collected through observation techniques and analysed using a qualitative approach. The analysed data consists of narrative excerpts and the utterances of the characters in the story. The results of the study indicate that two forms of deictic expressions were found: relational social deictic expressions and absolute social deictic expressions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of the Balinese language sound system on loan words produced in the language. This study uses a qualitative approach with the observation method and is complemented by note-taking techniques. The data in this study are loan words that do not have equivalents in Balinese; therefore, these loan words are similar to their original words, merely experiencing sound changes according to the Balinese sound system and characteristics. Data are sourced from 10 informants who are native Balinese, especially those who belong to the Baby Boomer generation to ensure that informants are rarely exposed to, know, and master foreign language accents. The influence of the Balinese language sound system and characteristics on the loan words is significant. These significances are 1) changes in vowel sounds to pepet or schwa sounds, 2) the elimination of consonant sounds, 3) restructuring of sound structures, 4) the addition of nasal sounds, and 5) the separation of syllables with CC patterns into new forms. The loan words produced tend to place the tongue in a neutral position with a relaxed condition. The efficiency of sound is very noticeable in this process due to the weak and complex consonant omission.
