Abstract

This community service project aims to enhance elderly knowledge about stroke in Bane Village, Pematang Siantar, through direct education and pre-test/post-test evaluation. Methods involved a straightforward outreach approach using simple language, collaboration with local health volunteers, and adherence to health protocols during the activities. Approximately 20 elderly participants were assessed, focusing on defining stroke, major risk factors (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, smoking, and physical inactivity), early signs and symptoms, and preventive steps through healthy lifestyle changes, regular health checkups, and the role of physiotherapy in prevention and functional recovery. Results indicated a significant improvement in elderly knowledge after the education session, with a shift from lower knowledge levels to higher categories. Discussion highlights the importance of collaboration among healthcare professionals, community health volunteers, and elderly participants to build a stronger community support network for stroke prevention. Practical implications include periodic health education sessions, training for health volunteers, integration of stroke education into broader community health programs, and leveraging senior-friendly digital media to broaden informational reach. This study supports the Tri Dharma of Higher Education by enhancing scholarly and service contributions that improve the quality of life for the elderly in the local community.

Abstract

This community service activity at the Karya Suci Clinic aims to address and improve the quality of life of patients with osteoarthritis through the implementation of physiotherapy interventions. Methods used include patient education, exercise therapy, manual techniques (such as joint mobilization and manual traction), and the use of physical modalities to reduce pain and improve joint function. This activity involves a comprehensive patient assessment following clinical evaluation standards, followed by a four-week physiotherapy program. Monitoring is carried out by measuring pain intensity, joint stiffness, and functional ability using instruments such as the WOMAC score. Results obtained show a significant reduction in pain intensity, increased range of motion, and improved quality of life for patients. This report presents a comprehensive overview of the intervention process and an analysis of the results obtained in the treatment of osteoarthritis at the clinic.

Abstract

The primary aim is to enhance the understanding and skills of students and coaches in post-exercise physical care. This socialization is considered important to prevent injuries and optimize recovery from intensive training, given that many students experience muscle soreness. The methods used include lectures, demonstrations of techniques, hands-on practice, and interactive discussions. The activities are organized into three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Over two days, the program seeks to provide practical knowledge about massage and physiotherapy, with the expectation of reducing injuries and increasing awareness of the importance of physical care in sports.

Abstract

This study presents an evaluation of a community service program, including education and neurorestoration, implemented at Efarina Hospital in Pematangsiantar for post-stroke patients. The program included the delivery of individually tailored written information, face-to-face discussion sessions, and telephone post-treatment support. The program was designed based on principles of patient education and neurorestoration support, which have been shown to increase patient confidence and satisfaction in accessing stroke-related information. The study combined an interactive educational approach with an emphasis on neurological rehabilitation, supporting the restoration of patient independence. Results from the community service program showed significant improvements in patients' ability to access information, a feeling of better informed care, and satisfaction with the information received. However, changes in general knowledge about stroke and psychosocial outcomes were not significant. This article reviews the methodology, results, and implications of the findings for the implementation of more intensive education and neurorestoration programs in the future.

Abstract

Health education is a strategic effort to raise public awareness of the importance of disease prevention and early detection. This community service report presents health education activities conducted at the Tiga Rungu Community Health Center. These activities included education on healthy lifestyles, blood pressure, blood sugar, and uric acid level checks, and demonstrations of disease prevention measures. These activities were designed to reach various levels of society, especially those with limited access to health information. The implementation method, which included interactive education, live demonstrations, and physical examinations, was conducted in several structured sessions. Several health workers measured and recorded participant data to determine the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in the area. The results of the activity showed a fairly high level of participation, with the majority of respondents benefiting from both knowledge and health checks. Preliminary findings indicate an increase in public awareness and understanding of the importance of routine health checks and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Overall, this activity succeeded in creating constructive interactions between health workers and the community and provided recommendations for further education with a more integrated approach. The findings and recommendations obtained are expected to serve as the basis for preventive efforts in disease prevention and community empowerment at the local level. This report also serves as a reference for related parties in developing sustainable health education programs in the future.

Abstract

This study assesses the nutritional status of children at Taman Indah Kindergarten, Pematangsiantar, using anthropometric methods to enhance human resource quality from early ages. The approach included measurements of weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference, along with educational sessions for teachers and parents on the importance of a balanced diet for child development. Findings reveal notable gaps: a lack of routine nutrition monitoring, limited nutrition literacy among educators and parents, and insufficient collaboration with health agencies. The descriptive observational design included all enrolled students, aiming to raise awareness of nutritional issues and promote proactive, findings-based interventions for child nutrition improvement. The results underscore the need for improved nutrition monitoring programs, enhanced nutrition literacy among school facilitators, and stronger collaboration with local health authorities to prevent stunting, given a regional stunting prevalence of 14.3%.

Abstract

This study explored an online counseling program on reproductive health for adolescents in Indonesia through the Zoom platform, with the aim of increasing knowledge about puberty, contraception, and STI prevention. Pre- and post-tests demonstrated a significant increase in participants' understanding (evidence of improvement from moderate to high knowledge; 95% correct answers on the post-test). Challenges identified included unstable internet connection quality and privacy issues, but active participation was maintained, making this initiative effective in raising awareness and reducing stigma surrounding reproductive health education among adolescents.
