Abstract

This community service report presents an HIV/AIDS counseling and prevention initiative targeting high-risk men in Bukit Maraja. The activities were carried out by implementing key strategies—diagnose, treat, prevent, and respond—aligned with the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative. In this project, motivational interviewing techniques and peer outreach approaches were utilized to increase HIV testing uptake and the return of test results. The counseling was delivered by intensively trained field staff in collaboration with various stakeholders, ensuring effective targeting of high-risk groups. The program outcomes showed significant improvements in HIV knowledge, testing rates, and awareness about available services. These findings highlight the importance of community empowerment and persistent support to overcome structural barriers in the access to HIV/AIDS services

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and improve the knowledge and skills for handling lower limb injuries using the PRICE method (Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) among training participants organized at Sanggar Tari Pematangsiantar. The PRICE method is proven effective in reducing swelling, alleviating pain, and accelerating the recovery process for acute injuries. Through an intensive one-day training, 35 participants from the local art and athletic communities underwent a series of theoretical sessions, technical practice, and simulated injury management. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test assessments, participatory observation, and visual documentation. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in both theoretical understanding and practical skills in applying the PRICE method. These findings indicate that community service training with a structured methodological approach can effectively enhance awareness and capability in injury management within art and sports communities

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the understanding and management of hypertension and calcification problems among the elderly in Kelurahan Martoba, Pematangsiantar. The education program was conducted through interactive health talks, demonstrations of anthropometric and blood pressure measurements, and sessions on therapeutic exercise for hypertension. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure increased knowledge and changes in healthy lifestyle behaviors. The results demonstrated reductions in average systolic and diastolic blood pressures, enhanced understanding of healthy eating habits, and increased elderly participation in exercise routines aimed at strengthening bones and joints. This program proves that an educational and participatory approach can be an effective strategy in managing hypertension and calcification-related health issues among the elderly, thus fostering self-awareness regarding the importance of prevention through a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

The educational outreach on acupressure techniques is a community service initiative aimed at improving mothers' knowledge and understanding of the benefits of acupressure in supporting health. This activity was conducted in the Siantar Timur District using interactive approaches such as lectures, live demonstrations, and the distribution of educational leaflets. Based on literature studies, acupressure techniques have been widely applied as a non-invasive method to address various physical and mental complaints, such as stress, pain, and digestive disorders. This paper presents the framework of the outreach program, situational analysis, implementation methodology, pre- and post-questionnaire evaluation results, and a discussion on the effectiveness of the outreach. The findings indicate a significant increase in participants’ knowledge after attending the outreach, as well as long-term potential benefits for mothers’ health

Abstract

This community service report aims to enhance public awareness—especially among prospective athletes, college students, and the general community—of the importance of physical activity as a preventive measure against ankle injuries. In the context of the high prevalence of ankle injuries, one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries across various segments of the population , this outreach activity was conducted at Physiomovecare RS Efarina Berastagi. The program involved delivering theoretical presentations on ankle injuries, the significance of regular physical activity, and practical demonstrations of strengthening exercises designed to reduce injury risks. The outcomes of the outreach indicate an increase in participants’ knowledge as well as improved attitudes towards maintaining physical fitness and regular physical activity. This report is structured following the standard guidelines for community service reports, covering introduction, literature review, methodology, results, and conclusion

Abstract

This study discusses the risk of falls among the elderly in Siantar Martoba District, which increases with aging due to declining muscle mass and bone health. The risk is exacerbated by external factors such as non-elderly-friendly home environments and polypharmacy. Falls have serious physical impacts, such as fractures, as well as psychological consequences, including excessive fear of falling again (Post-Fall Syndrome). This study proposes a community-based educational intervention using a multifactorial approach that includes cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The expected outcomes are improved knowledge, confidence, and skills among the elderly in preventing and managing fall risks, thereby enhancing their independence and quality of life.

Abstract

One of the natural ingredients that are often used as medicinal plants is mangkokan leaves (Polyscias scutellaria). Mangkokan leaves have the potential as an antifungal. Trichophyton rubrum is a fungus that infects human skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the antifungal activity of mangkokan leaf fractions (Polyscias scutellaria) against Trichophyton rubrum fungi. Fractionation was carried out using the liquid-liquid method using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol-water solvents. Testing was carried out using the disc paper diffusion method. The concentration of the fraction extract used was 600 µg/disk. The results showed that of the three fractions of mangkokan leaves (Polyscias scutellaria), the ethyl acetate fraction and the ethanol-water fraction had antifungal activity, while the n-hexane fraction did not have antifungal activity. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the fraction of mangkokan leaves (Polyscias scutellaria) has antifungal activity against Trichophyton rubrum fungus. Of the three fractions tested, the ethanol-water fraction has the highest antifungal activity with an average inhibition zone of 11.3 mm against Trichophyton rubrum fungus, the ethyl acetate fraction has an inhibition zone with an average of 4.5 mm while the n-hexane fraction has no inhibition zone. The three fractions have been compared with ketoconazole 30 µg/disk as a positive control and 10% DMSO as a negative control. From the comparison of fraction measurements against the positive control, the ethanol-water fraction is included in the strong category and the ethyl acetate fraction is included in the weak category.

Abstract

Dadiah is included in functional food because it contains lactic acid bacteria (LAB) which have the potential to be probiotics. The combination of foods containing bacteria with other compounds must be treated so that they do not inhibit or kill lactic acid bacteria. Zinc as one of the micronutrients that is important for the body and is also an antimicrobial but has benefits for obese people. Giving LAB with zinc should provide support to each other without reducing the impact of any of the materials used. This study aims to determine the tolerance of probiotic potential lactic acid bacteria to zinc so that zinc resistant LAB isolate is obtained to be applied to obese patients. To determine the correlation and relationship of zinc and LAB, observations were made on the microscopic and macroscopic characteristics of LAB from Bukitinggi drugs such as fermentation type, catalase test, gram staining and zinc resistance using the welling method and total colony. The results obtained in the study obtained 5 isolates from Bukittinggi curdiah, all isolates including homofermetative fermentation types, negative catalase tests and including Gram Positive results from gram staining. LAB resistance to zinc using the well method did not obtain clearzone for all isolates and LAB resistance to zinc obtained viability below 20% for all isolates. In the research that has been done, it was found that LAB isolated from Bukittinggi drug has characteristics that have potential as probiotics and are also resistant to zinc so that the combination of LAB and zinc for obese patients can be carried out to the next stage.
