Abstract

The study is aimed at looking at students ability in reading Quran and writing the Arabic script of the holy book as well as exploring the Tahsin Al-Quran programme to improve students competence in reading and writing the script of Quran. The methods implemented in the study are both quantitative and qualitative (explanatory mixed methods design). The quantitative data was collected by testing two hundred and eight students in reading and writing the Quran script. The source of the qualitative data was ten informants consist of lecturers and students. The data is obtained through interview. The findings of the study show that (58.70%) students have good ability in reading Quran, (24.50%) students have moderate ability and (16.80%) students have poor ability in reading the holy book. Moreover, (19%) students have good ability in writing the script, (66%) students have moderate ability and the rest (15%) has poor ability in writing the script of the Quran. Related to the Tahsin Quran programme, the interview data shows that there are seven strategic steps conducted by the university to improve students competence in reading Quran. Pursuant to the finding of the study it is revealed that the students competence in reading Quran and writing the script through Tahsin activities can be improved, yet the activities requires to be more well-planned that the outcome of the learning can be better.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using Islamic Box Fabel learning media in fostering spiritual intelligence such as honesty, discipline, mutual cooperation, responsibility, motivation and courage towards students. The research was conducted with research and development (R&D) methods, this research approach is appropriate to use because it aims to develop media in a learning method. The research data was taken from 42 participants through an analysis of value documents in three elementary schools through three cycles of data retrieval. All data were then analyzed using SPSS Version 22.0 software. Overall the results of the study indicate that the use of Islamic Box Fable learning media is very effective to use in fostering the spiritual intelligence of students. Improved honesty, discipline, mutual cooperation, responsibility, motivation and courage obviously can be seen in every cycle that have been carried out. The results of this study have succeeded in revealing that there are many ways and methods that can be done by the teacher to deliver material or messages of learning in the classroom, one of which uses the Fable Box media as proposed by the researcher who conducted this study

Abstract

This research is aimed to identify whether religion teaching in Public Higher Institution is able to shape students’ emotional quotient. This research used quantitative method with survey approach, the entire data were collected through documentary analysis to four hundred students who are selected from fifteen majors and they have accomplished religion teaching course on the semester August to December 2018. All data were analyzed descriptively using thematic techniques. Relatively the results of this research show that religion teaching course in Public Higher Institution is able to shape students’ emotional quotient, that fact affects the students in nine aspects; i) positive thinking, ii) patience, iii) honesty, iv) confidence, v) consistency, vi) responsibility, vii) discipline, viii) intention and ix) hard working. By referring to the results, it can be seen clearly that Islamic religion teaching course has a significant role in implementing national education vision to shape an intelligent human intellectually and emotionally.

Abstract

This study aims to see how the school management in developing the character of students in one of the boarding school in West Sumatera. This study uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. Sources of data were taken to 38 informants consisting of 8 elements of the school namely the principal, teacher, boarding supervisor, security and cleaning service, canteen keeper, students and parents. All data obtained by in-depth interviews with all informants, the authors also took data through direct observation at the research site. Overall the results of the study show that there are seven character values instilled by the school, namely religious character, curiosity, discipline, confidence, responsibility, independence and honesty. The seven character values are instilled through twelve activities such as tahsin and tahfidzd Al-Quran, worship services, prayers in congregation, learning clinics, training and guidance, Arabic and English communication programs in the dormitory, motivation, joint sports, mutual cooperation and daily activities. Character building design as implemented by the school, it turns out that it is able to change the behavior of students in a more positive direction such as manners, discipline, obedience to worship, obedient to the rules, clean and tidy life, daring to appear, regular life, and honest behavior. This means that the school has succeeded in fostering the character education of students through various activities and all these activities are well planned by the cooperation of all elements of the school. The author considers the design to be emulated by other schools as a guide in fostering the character of students

Abstract

This research is aimed to know phases of competency, attitude and Islamic teachers issue in using computer for learning process. This research uses qualitative and quantitative mixed method (explanatory mixed methods design). Quantitative data were obtained from sixty-four Islamic teachers by using questionnaire and were analyzed with descriptive statistics through SPSS Windows Version 15.0. Meanwhile, Qualitative data were taken from eight teachers through intensive interview and were analyzed thematically by using software NVivo 7. Results of the research show that the teachers competency in using computer is still at poor phase (Mean = 2.32, SD = 0.22), while their attitude toward that issue in learning process is very positive (Mean = 3.94, SD = 0.36). Furthermore, Qualitative results find that there are four important themes related with the issue enforced by the teachers in applying computer to the learning process. Such are; i) lower self-competency to use computer, ii) lack of computer facilities provided in shool, iii) lack of computer training for the teachers, and iv) lack of time in designing computer-based learning due to over-task issue in the school.
