Abstract

The Eichornia crassipes fiber have potentially as a composite reinforcing material. The advantage of composites with natural fibers like to light weight, corrosion resistance, water resistance, attractive performance, and without machining process. The purpose of using natural fiber as an alternative material to replace glass fiber composite material with Eichornia crassipes fibers are friendly and cheap. The research material used Eichornia crassipes fiber, NaOH, Etanol, and H2O. Processing of Eichornia crassipes fiber is washing with water, natural drying ± 10 days in eviromental, fiber taking with steel brush. Dry fibre were subjected to 10%, 20%, 30% NaOH and ethanol solution with variations of immersion time of 2, 4, 6 hours, neutralization with H20, and drying at room temperature. The Single fiber tensile test specimens were made with variations of treatment type in NaOH and Ethanol solution (10%, 20%, 30%), immersion time of 2, 4, and 6 hours. Single fiber test specimens refer to standard ASTM D 3379. Optimum tensile strength test results on NaOH treatment 20% variation of immersion time 4 hours: 28.402 N / mm2 and on ethanol treatment 20% variation of immersion time 2 hours: 48.197 N / mm2.Keywords: eichornia crassipes fiber, composite, single fiber, tensile strength

Abstract

Valve is one of the components contained in the two-wheeled vehicles and four wheels. The valve acts as a regulator for the exit of fuel and air into the combustion chamber. In four stroke cycle combustion there is no two types of valves ie suction valve and exhaust valve. the auto parts store sells motorcycle spare parts we know the type of original valve and KW type. The ori valve is the original valve of the motorcycle from motorcycle manufacturer, while the KW valve is a production valve not from a motorcycle manufacturer. This research is used to analyze hardness characteristic and micro structure from ori valve type and KW valve type.The test method used is chemical composition test, Vickers hardness test and micrography. KW valve types have a grain structure of more orbiting chromatic carbides dominating and spread more evenly in all areas, thus affecting significant increases in hardness compared to ori valve types. There is bainite in small quantities. The hardness number of the valve stem is 206,0 VHN. The hardness number of the head valve is 329 VHN. The original motorcycle valve has a granular structure of chromium carbide is small amount and not evenly dispersed. Domination on the bainite structure, so that the hardness of the original type valve is lower than that of the valve with KW type. The hardness number on the valve stem is 182.5 VHN and the valve head is 251.3 VHNKeywords: valve, Vickers, original , KW

Abstract

Corrosion is a metallic interaction with the environment that causes damage to the metal. Corrosion can also occur in fishing vessels, which are generally made of low carbon steel. This happens because the propeller works in a corrosive environment. Then the need for an alternative corrosion control so that the component is durable. The purpose of this study was to find out how much corrosion rate the ship propellers produced after the addition of saccharin on the nickel electroplating process. This study was conducted by specimen electroplating nickel with the addition of saccharin variation of (0.6 gram; 0.8 gram; and 1 gram). Then the results in corrosion test using sea water media. The corrosion rate is calculated using the weight loss method. After the calculated corrosion rate, then the effectiveness of saccharin is calculated. The results showed that nickel electroplating specimens with addition of 0.6 gram saccharin variation resulted in a corrosion rate of 75 mpy, 0.8 gram saccharin yielded a corrosion rate of 83.14 mpy, saccharin 1 gram of corrosion rate of 90.56 mpy, while raw material corrosion rate of 117.73 mpy.

Abstract

One of the most important sources of vegetable protein to improve people's nutrition is soybean. Soybean is a type of food that is safe for consumption, good for maintaining health, and the price is cheap. Soybean is a type of legume plant that is often used as the basic ingredient of tempe. Tempe making through fermentation by Rhizopus sp. Processed foods tempe until now is still a culinary in Indonesia to overseas. The purpose of this study is to assess the engine driving load for tempe cutters 2kg, 3kg and 4kg for tempe chips production. The results showed that the tempe 3kg tempe load was most suitable for tempe production.

Abstract

The increasing consumption of fossil-based energy especially LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) that is not balanced with the availability of energy source, required a development of alternative energy with abundant amount and environmentally friendly. One of alternative energy source feasible to develop is the one from biomass waste that is livestock manure. Magelang becomes one of potential area in Central Jawa as biogas development. Biogas is produced by using digester anaerobically. Magelang has livestock about 142.127 with potency of gas production about 86.690 m3. The resulted biogas production equals to 43.345 kg of LPG or 14.448 of LPG 3 kg which is can fullfill the cooking needs for about 278 households in one year.Keywords: biogas, energy, LPG

Abstract

Knapsack sprayer is the most widely used type of sprayer by farmers, but it is quite tiring when used, because it has to carry a sprayer weighing up to 15 kg and manually pumping to get the pressure requirement in the tank (pressure required of 2 - 7 kg / cm2). Based on these problems, researchers innovate with a new type of sprayer (utilizing wheel rotation that is converted into translational motion to press the pump). The purpose of this study is analyze the influence of the number of pumps to resulting pressure. The study was conducted with 5 repetitions and the distance of experiment was 25 meter. The results show that the number of pumps has little effect, since the number of pumps has no direct effect on the amount of compressed air (this is affected by the same total pumping distance between the use of 1 pump and 2 pumps). Testing using 1 pump and 2 pumps produced a pressure between 1.9 - 2.2 kg / cm2.Keywords: knapsack, sprayer, creative technology.
