Abstract

Religion not only governs matters of divinity but also the relationship between humans and the environment. In Islam, religion and the environment are inseparable, as maintaining the environment is akin to upholding the five fundamental objectives of Islam (maqasid al-shari’ah). One of the ways religion plays a role in environmental preservation is through religious institutions, which in this research is represented by Pondok Pesantren An-Nur Yogyakarta. This pesantren is an interesting research subject because in 2023, it was categorized as a “Golden Pesantren,” with one of its programs focusing on environmental issues. The approach used in this study is eco-theology, a concept introduced by Joseph Sittler (1960) that examines the connection between spirituality and ecological responsibility. The two issues explored are the theological foundations behind the development of the eco-theology paradigm at Pondok Pesantren An-Nur Yogyakarta and its implementation. The study has revealed that: First, the hadith narrated by Imam Muslim number 131 in Shahih Muslim serves as the theological foundation used by the leaders of Pondok Pesantren An-Nur Yogyakarta. Second, the implementation of the eco-theology paradigm includes; the establishment of a waste management unit named UPT ASRI, specific waste sorting, ecobrick and biopori processing, and the prohibition of bringing plastic waste into the pesantren.

Abstract

The Prophet’s Hadith is considered the second source of legislation in Islam after the Holy Qur’an, and it can be interpreted in a textual and contextual manner. Some hadiths need interpretations from the texts of the Holy Qur’an to understand the studied hadith. This research focuses on the hadith on women’s leadership, which is studied using the reciprocal reading method invented by the religious jurist Abdul Qadir. The meaning of the reciprocal reading is to create an equal relationship between men and women in Islamic texts, because reality shows that the interpretation of Islamic texts partly tends towards male dominance and the marginalization of women, especially in the issue of leadership. Therefore, this research aims to know the leadership of women in the hadith “All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock” from the perspective of the “reciprocal reading” according to the religious jurist Abdul Qadir. One of the results of this research is that female leadership from the perspective of reciprocal reading is a leadership model that does not make it difficult for women to stand before men, whether in the private or public sphere. As for the concept of actual implementation in this approach, it is: First, the way of looking (view) in which humanity is respected. The way to read reference texts is to position men and women as subjects and as complete human beings. The method of classification, or in the Arabic term (rule), is experience, exchange, or cooperation between men and women.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students’ need about the form of teaching developed for learning the Ulumul Qur’an at Teacher Education College. The sample was randomly selected as many as 80 from 130 new students of higher aducation college. Data was collected using observation sheets for lecture activities, interview sheets and open questionnaires for students. The results of lecture observations show that students need a long time to find material from various sources, not yet focused on learning and lecturers are still the main source. Learning contraints because students do not have systematic teaching materials to make it easier to achieve learning objectives. The result of the analysis of interviews and questionnaries of student needs show that; 1) the most needed teaching materials are textbook; 2) the materials in the textbook includes how to integrate the values of the Qur’an in teaching and learning, the miracles of the Qur’an, the narration of the Qur’an, the relationship of verses and letters, Makkiyah and Madaniyah verses, the descent of the Qur’an, various qira’at, parables and oath verses, muhkam and mutashabih verses. This study is the initial part of the research and development of textbook Ulumul Qur’an at Teacher Education College.

Abstract

This research discusses in-depth qawa‘id tafsir as the main methodological in the interpretation of the Qur’an, focusing on how these principles support an accurate and contextual understanding of the sacred text. This research uses a type of library research which is presented using a qualitative research model with descriptive method and by using sources from classical to contemporary books. The results show that qawa‘id tafsir not only serves as a technical guide in interpreting Qur’anic verses but also plays an essential involvement in ensuring that interpretations remain relevant and in accordance with the objectives of the shari’ah. This article describes the evolution of qawa‘id tafsir over time, from early discussions in classical works to significant contributions in contemporary literature, which enrich the methodological framework and understanding of tafseer. Through an in-depth understanding of the definition, history, and significance of qawa‘id tafsir, this article highlights how these rules help mufassir to face interpretive challenges in the modern era, as well as ensure consistent and applicable interpretations in evolving social, legal, and cultural contexts. Qawa‘id tafsir serves as a bridge that connects the Qur’anic text with the needs of the times, making it an essential tool in maintaining the purity and relevance of the divine message in the Qur’an.

Abstract

This study examines the values of children's communication ethics towards parents as mentioned in QS. al-Isra’ [17]: 23, comparing the interpretations of Tafsir al-Maraghi and Tafsir al-Azhar. This topic is intriguing because both are contemporary tafsir works, authored by scholars with differing backgrounds, offering unique insights into the verse. The question is how the two interpretations reflect the concept of filial piety in the context of children's communication ethics. The study employs a library research method with a comparative approach. The findings reveal significant differences, where Tafsir al-Maraghi emphasizes that blessings and protection from Allah accompany children who honor their parents, while Tafsir al-Azhar highlights that serving parents is the second obligation after worshiping Allah. Differences in the structural organization of the tafsir works are also noted. This research provides a detailed comparative analysis of communication ethics in the context of filial piety.
