This study uses triangulation technique to test the validity and analysis techniques of thematic data for data analysis. The informants were librarians at the Public Library of Cimahi City. The results showed that the preservation process at the Cimahi City Public Library had not been fully implemented. The Public Library of Cimahi City focuses more on preventive activities, such as installing air conditioners to maintain humidity and room temperature; installing curtains on glass windows to prevent sunlight from hitting the collection; and perform cleaning and maintenance on every element of the library. Meanwhile, curative and restorative preservation activities at the Public Library of Cimahi City are still lacking when compared to preservation standards carried out by other libraries, which have only been implemented through collection repair activities (binding, gluing and using adhesive), and room renovation. So it can be concluded that the Public Library of Cimahi City needs to pay more attention to preservation activities so that every element that supports the sustainability of the Public Library of Cimahi City can be preserved.

Abstract

Local knowledge of an area doesn't exist without reason; it has an accompanying purpose and philosophy. There are certainly goals and philosophies behind the local knowledge that the Tatar Karang community of Tasikmalaya District holds. This research aims to understand the local knowledge of the coastal forests of the Tatar Karang community. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with methods of observation, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. It is organized based on the cultural inventory structure of Kemendikbud 2016 and the SECI Model. Informants in this research include traditional elders, customary stakeholders, village heads, cultural figures, religious figures, community leaders, youth leaders, and leaders of traditional families. The results of the study indicate that: 1) Historically, the coastal forest is a heritage of the customary system that existed long before 1861 and was implemented as a legal system in place at the time; 2) Conceptually, the coastal forest serves as a protective measure for residents from various natural disaster threats originating from the direction of the ocean; 3) Factually, the condition of the coastal forest is quite concerning due to land use conversion policies, resulting in much of its area being damaged; and 4) Strategies for preserving the coastal forest can be done through: 1) the SECI Model analysis, which includes socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization. This ensures that stakeholders, traditional internal parties, can supervise objectively; 2) maximizing the cultural approach through developing three traditions: hajat lembur, marak, and rarangkén huma; and 3) a popular method using new media. In conclusion, preserving this intangible cultural heritage is vital and, at the very least, should be done through inventory. Thus, this tacit knowledge heritage can be documented.

Abstract

Indonesia has a diverse cultural heritage, including the Baso Culture in Coastal Sibolga, North Sumatra. This culture, orally passed down since ancient times, is at risk of being lost due to minimal documentation. Baso reflects close relationships, especially with blood relatives. The family system of the Sibolga Coastal ethnicity follows the paternal lineage, and Baso terms are adapted to the Coastal Language influenced by Minang, Malay, and Batak languages. This research aims to document the Baso Culture of the Sibolga Coastal ethnicity, which currently has minimal information. The study uses library science with a focus on cultural documentation. The methods employed are action research and Participatory Action Research (PAR), with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and document analysis. The research involves observations to study social behavior and meaning, interviews to deepen information, and data analysis based on references to strengthen the received information. YFKK (Yayasan Forum Komunitas Kreatif) Sibolga Tapanuli Tengah and local cultural experts are involved in the research as part of the PAR approach. The results show that Baso Culture is a way of speaking that reflects the closeness of relationships and a person's position in kinship. The researchers categorized the variations of greetings in Baso into six categories: nuclear family, paternal family, maternal family, male in-laws, female in-laws, and general greetings. Baso Culture is still practiced by the Sibolga Coastal community, but it needs preservation. Preservation efforts are made by documenting it as Instagram content through the accounts of Yayasan Forum Komunitas Kreatif (@tutur.runduk) and the researcher (@lai_bookshelf). This documentation is expected to enrich information and support cultural learning for future generations.
