Abstract

Al-Baqarah [2]: 30, QS.

Abstract

Islam has been plagued by enemies who lie in wait, sparing no effort or expense to cast doubt upon it using various methods and techniques. The Islamic nation has faced significant threats from enemies since the Prophet's mission, including invasion of its thought, creed, heritage and history. Alienation in Exegesis (Tafsir) has caused confusion among Muslims, particularly in light of scientific discoveries, impacting rulings and the Qur'an's miraculous nature. This research examines the concept of infiltration and its effect on Islamic rulings. It explores the linguistic and terminological meaning of the word "Tafsir," the concept of "infiltration" linguistically and terminologically, its two types, and presents some examples of infiltration in Tafsir. The researcher discusses the potential impact of infiltration on Islamic rulings, suggesting methods to purify Tafsir and prevent misunderstandings of Islamic principles. The researcher used a presentation and deductive method to analyze Tafsir's works deemed infiltrated due to deviation from original principles, explaining their classification and correct interpretations. The researcher also deduced some effects that infiltration may have on Islamic rulings. In conclusion, the researcher reached several findings and recommendations, including the need to raise awareness of the dangers of infiltration and its destructive impact on the Book of Allah and its interpretation, the importance of strengthening religious education that focuses on proper methodology in Tafsir to prevent the infiltration of errors, and the necessity for scholars to review and scrutinize Tafsir works to ensure they are free of errors and infiltration.

Abstract

The phenomenon of climate change and environmental damage caused by human activities has become a global issue that affects the ecological balance of the earth. The Qur’an as a guideline for Muslims contains principles that are relevant to climate change mitigation and adaptation, such as balance, moderation, sustainable management, and reforestation. This study aims to explore and analyze the teachings of the Qur’an related to climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts in the context of maintaining ecological balance. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach and thematic interpretation. Data were obtained from primary sources, such as interpretation books, and secondary sources, such as related books and articles. The thematic approach of Abd al-Hayy al-Farmāwī and liberating hermeneutics were used to analyze the verses of the Qur’an related to ecology and climate change mitigation. The results of the study show that the Qur’an emphasizes the importance of the principle of moderation in consumption (QS. Al-A'rāf: 31), sustainable resource management (QS. Hūd: 61), readiness and resilience to environmental challenges (QS. Al-Anfāl: 60), and reforestation (QS. Al-An’ām: 99). These principles do not only focus on practical actions but also moral and spiritual aspects as caliphs on earth. The implication of this study is the importance of integrating the teachings of the Qur’an in environmental policies and ecological education to create awareness and shared responsibility in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem for the sustainability of life on earth

Abstract

Religious moderation in Indonesia emerged as a response to increasing intolerance, radicalism, and religious-based conflicts. Despite having a strong foundation, the implementation of this concept still faces challenges such as political and religious polarization, the spread of hoaxes, and the low level of public understanding of religious moderation. M. Quraish Shihab, as one of the contemporary tafsir figures, actively voices the importance of moderation through his writings, including the book “Wasathiyyah: Wawasan Islam tentang Moderasi Beragama”. This study aims to analyze the concept of religious moderation according to M. Quraish Shihab’s perspective, explain its relevance in the context of Indonesian society, identify challenges in its implementation, and provide strategic recommendations for strengthening religious moderation in society. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach. The analysis was carried out on primary and secondary sources, including books, journals, scientific articles, and relevant official documents. The analysis technique used is content analysis with a thematic approach. This study found that the concept of religious moderation put forward by M. Quraish Shihab emphasizes balance in belief, thought, and action. Moderation is defined as an effort to maintain a balance between various poles, such as the soul and body, religion and state, and reason and religious texts. This study provides theoretical contributions in enriching the study of religious moderation as well as practical contributions as references for the government, educational institutions, and society in realizing harmony in religious and state life.

Abstract

This research focuses on the importance of understanding the context of jihad to prevent misunderstandings that can trigger conflict in a multicultural society like Indonesia. QS. Al-Taubah has special characteristics that are full of jihad commands in a particular context that require in-depth analysis. This research aims to explore the meaning of the jihad message in QS. Al-Taubah using Jakobson’s semiotic approach, focusing on the communication context which includes sender, recipient, code, context, channel, and message. The research method used is a qualitative method with a library research approach. The data analysis technique utilizes Jakobson’s code and message theory to describe the communication elements in jihad verses. The implications of this research emphasize that a correct understanding of jihad verses can strengthen the principles of religious moderation in Indonesia, such as commitment to agreements, ethics in fighting, and the importance of diplomacy and resolving conflicts fairly. The research results show that the verses commanding jihad in QS. Al-Taubah have two main messages. First, thalab or orders from Allah swt to Muslims to wage jihad with specific goals that are influenced by certain contexts. Second, tahrikul himmah, namely motivation from Allah swt so that Muslims understand that the rewards in the afterlife are much better than worldly pleasures.

Abstract

This study aims to expand the understanding of the concepts of fahsyā’ and munkar through an eco-sufistic perspective using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach. Traditionally, these two terms have been understood in moral and social contexts. However, this research offers a reinterpretation that broadens the scope of both concepts. Fahsyā’ is understood as environmental damage caused by irresponsible human activity, while munkar represents internal corruption, such as egoism and behavior that contradicts human nature. Through Charles Sanders Peirce’s triadic theory (sign, object, and interpretant), this study explores Quranic verses to connect the spiritual and ecological dimensions of both concepts. The results show that fahsyā’ reflects the destructive impact of humans on nature, arising from unchecked greed and exploitation. On the other hand, munkar reflects internal dissonance that disrupts the harmony of humans with themselves, society, and their environment. This perspective integrates Sufistic ethics with environmental sustainability issues, emphasizing that ecological awareness is an integral part of Islamic teachings. This approach not only enriches Quran-based ecological discourse but also highlights how Sufism can inspire the development of holistic behaviors that maintain the balance of nature. This study makes a significant contribution by expanding the interpretation of Quranic verses relevant to contemporary ecological issues, while strengthening the role of Islamic spirituality in addressing the pressing challenges of environmental degradation in the modern era.

Abstract

This article analyzes the socio-political interpretation of Syu’bah Asa’s work entitled “Dalam Cahaya Al-Qur’an: Tafsir Ayat-Ayat Sosial dan Politik” as a response to the authoritarianism of the New Order regime in Indonesia. With a linguistic and thematic approach, this study explores how Syu’bah uses the Qur’an to criticize justice issues, human rights violations, corruption, and pseudo-diversity. This interpretation not only offers moral solutions; the interpreter also intends to build religious and social awareness in society by using the texts of the Qur’an to reflect socio-political realities, fight for democracy, and even reflect the spirit of resistance against the practice of repressive power domination. Through contextual interpretation, Syu’bah Asa links the verses of the Qur’an with the socio-political realities of that time, such as discriminatory policies against certain groups and the silencing of civil liberties. There are at least two important findings in this paper namely: First, Syu’bah Asa conveys criticism of the repressive policies of the New Order through an interpretation of verses that highlight the issues of justice, human rights violations, corruption, and pseudo-diversity. Second, the interpretation is not only a reflection of social conditions but also offers democracy as a system based on religious morality. In conclusion, by reflecting on the verses of the Qur’an, Syu’bah Asa wants to remind and emphasize the relevance of the Qur’an in building critical socio-political awareness and inviting civil society and the authorities (government) to continue to introspect and improve themselves, especially government officials in carrying out the mandate of the people and the Almighty God

Abstract

In Islam, sexual intercourse within marriage is regulated as an act of worship. It is not merely viewed as a biological activity but as a means of fulfilling human nature's innate needs. According to hadith, couples are encouraged to recite specific prayers derived from prophetic traditions. Among the Buginese Muslims, however, the practice of sexual preparation has been transformed into a cultural tradition, adapting Islamic teachings through their indigenous Lontara script in a text known as Assikalaibineng, which incorporates Qur’anic verses. This study aims to analyze the Qur’anic invocations in the manuscript by, first, examining and analyzing its philological aspects and, second, employing reception theory to scrutinize the transmission and transformation of Qur’anic practices. The primary data consists of three manuscripts preserved by Muhlis Hadrawi. The findings reveal that the Buginese hermeneutical engagement with the Qur’an in the manuscript involves several adaptations: phonological negotiation of Qur’anic verses to align with regional linguistic patterns, metaphorical interpretations of verses (such as the kun fayakun invocation), symbolic use of Qur’anic letters (e.g., alif and ba), and semantic shifts that assign context-specific meanings to the text. The transmission of the ideas in the manuscript has evolved from an elite, exclusive practice to a more widely communal one, blending mystical elements with cognitive psychology. The Buginese believe that performing the Assikalaibineng ritual can confer religious merit through marital relations, as well as honor one’s spouse, thereby unifying the heart, soul, body, and mind. This study further demonstrates how the integration of religious and cultural elements in this practice has shaped a distinctive feature of Buginese identity. Additionally, it underscores a nuanced understanding of diverse cultural expressions within Islamic traditions.
