At least, there are three things that must be done by an educational institution to create quality education. The first is integrating a variety of subjects into an integrated learning activities and fun enjoy learning. The second is not only focusing on student intelligence, but also creating good character. The third is creating equality of teacher-student as subject of learners, including understanding students as a unique person with a different intelligence. The third element requires one important thing, namely, wise and insightful teachers with great academic ability and far-ranging experience. The application of life skills education in an educational institution will create students who have a good competitive output. With life skills education, they will be more productive and able to compete in the work world. Islamic boarding school takes the appropriate steps as it can prove that the Islamic boarding school is regarded as one of the competitive educational institutions. It is seen that the learning process is not only oriented to the intelligence of the students, but in the creation of noble character. In addition, most of Islamic teachers (ustadz) have been a degree scholar, even been doctor. This article elaborates the urgency of Islamic boarding school as a life skill education base.

Dynamics flow of society continues to flow and move towards the ocean modernism community life in which an element of hope in addition to anxiety and social unrest. Global developments are happening now could be going towards positive direction and negative direction, depending on who is the most widely installed concepts, ideas, culture and values into it. In these conditions, we talk about the progress of Islamic education in Indonesia human empowerment in the arena of globalization. Sorogan method is a logical consequence of maximum service to the Islamic students (santri). Various efforts of renewal today is done to give to services to students. The sorogan method actually puts maturity and attention as well as the skills of a person. The goal of sorongan method is to direct the students in understanding the subject matter and close relations between students and teachers. In addition, in the sorogan method the teacher can use it to explore the mental turmoil or problems that faced by each student, especially those that could potentially interfere with the absorption of their knowledge. Educational development should anticipate global tendency that will happen. Some trends can be identified, namely: (1) the process of investment and reinvestment, (2) the development of industry, communications and information, (3) a shift of education from back to basic to forward to future basics, which relies on improving the ability of TLC ( How to think, how to learn, and how to create), (4) the development and spreading the idea of democratization that gave rise to the demands of the implementation of school based management and site-specific solution, and (5) requires the way to solve the problem in analysis system, which not only rely on the analysis of cause and effect. The trends mentioned above requires a different quality of human resources with a quality that is today. Lately there are various problems faced by humans. Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) is considered by the social society as the agent of moral force that has given major contribution to the Islamic educational institutions in achieving what so called perfect human being, by upholding morals and morality in the society, particularly for women in Islam. Therefore, in order to create a modern and intelligent generation, Islamic Boarding Schools advances women’s Islamic education. How and in what way Ummul Mu’minin takes this role, has inspired researchers to study it. This paper is a case study that shows that the existence of girls Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) of Ummul Mukminin coordinated by ‘Aisyiyah in South Sulawesi region is one those Islamic educational institution that is able to accelerate Muslim women’s educational progress. Therefore, this Pesantren is expected to continue enhancing its contribution in the community development, especially Muslim women, as well as the extensive development of Islamic thought that can answer the challenges of civilization in globalization era, even as a pioneer for other Islamic educational institutions in shaping modern, intelligent Islamic women generations.

The progress of science and technology not only bring a wide variety of fortune, but also a loss. The advantage is that human power can be replaced by machines. The distance between one place and another can be shortened. The advanced communication tools are created, and so forth. Meanwhile, the disadvantage is that it can produce a product that is very terrible, like germ bombs, chemical bombs, as well as other types of bombs that have devastating explosive power resulted in loss of life and property, and so forth. Islam derived in the earth next to bring the rules or basic principles of ethics, morality and science and technology for the establishment of a high civilization, also teaches that mankind upholds is peaceful and prosperous life, both individual and social nature.

Education is a fundamental right of every citizen. However, in practice, not all citizens acquire these rights adequately. One of the reasons of not obtaining such rights is limited ability of the State to provide educational facilities for all citizens, although in fact, the community also has a lot to participate in the provision of educational facilities. So that the rights of citizens can be met, as well as increasing the intelligence of the nation, the government continually improves its ability to provide learning opportunities for all citizens. : Constructivist approach in cooperative learning model can encourage students to be able to build knowledge together in a group. They are encouraged to find and construct the material being studied through discussion, observation or experiment. Students interpret together what they found or they were discussed. In this way, the subject matter can be built together and not as a transfer of a teacher. Knowledge formed together based on experience and interaction with the environment in the study group, causing mutual enrichment among group members. Students are also able to build and maintain trust, open to receive and impart opinions and ideas, willing to share information and resources, would give support to others with sincerity. Students are also able to lead and skillfully manage the controversy into a problem solving situation, criticize ideas, not a personal one. This cooperative learning model can be implemented properly if one can improve the learning environment that enables among students and between students and teachers feel free opinion and ideas, as well as free in assessing and exploring important topics in the curriculum. Teachers can ask questions or problems that must be solved in the group. Students strive to think hard and discuss each other in the group. Then the teacher and other students can pursue their opinion about his ideas and different perspectives. Teachers also encourage students to be able to demonstrate understanding of the problem issues that were examined by way of the group.

In Surah Al-Alaq: 96/1-5 God mentions the importance of reading in everyday life with his words: “Read the (call) the name of your Lord who created, He created man from a clot. Read, and thy Lord the Most generous, who taught (man) with words intermediately, He teaches man what he did not know “. This means that a reader becomes the springs of human civilization for in their life. Islam greatly appreciates the reading process in the form of whatever reading. Reading means wanting everything that is not yet known. Thus, reading is important so the basic meaning of the Quran is reading.
