Abstract

Time series regression (TSR) is a forecasting model that can be used when there are trend and seasonal patterns. Paddy is a source of rice, which is a staple food for the Indonesian people. Paddy has a seasonal pattern because its cultivation depends on the rainy season. This study forecasts the amount of paddy production in Indonesia based on monthly data of paddy production in Indonesia to determine the production of paddy in 2023 and to assess the ability of the TSR model to forecast paddy production. The results showed that paddy production in 2023 is forecasted to have the same seasonal pattern as in previous years and reaches its peak production in April at 8.699 million tons. The TSR model of paddy production has a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 8.654% indicating a very good forecasting accuracy.

Abstract

This study explores the application of Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) using a Bi-Square Kernel weighting function to analyze life expectancy data across East Java Province. By incorporating spatial heterogeneity, the GWR model provides more accurate and localized insights compared to traditional global regression models. The results indicate significant spatial variability in the effects of poverty rate, healthcare facilities, sanitation, health complaints, and immunization coverage on life expectancy. Based on the analysis of life expectancy estimates in regencies/cities of East Java Province, the Madura region exhibits lower life expectancy compared to other areas, with Bangkalan Regency having the lowest life expectancy at 61.43 years. Additionally, urban areas generally have higher life expectancy than rural areas, with Surabaya City recording the highest life expectancy in East Java at 72.03 years. This disparity can be attributed to differences in the quality of healthcare services and better access to healthcare in urban areas compared to rural ones.

Abstract

Metabolites are expressed in mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) on mass spectrometry experiments. They can be identified more than once. Some of m/z representing same metabolites can be considered as a group of metabolites. Evaluation of metabolite effects can be considered based on the groups. Group least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (group lasso) regression can be used to evaluate these groups. It shrinks some coefficients of regression exactly to be zero by adding intermediate penalty on ordinary least square (OLS) objective function. The purposes of this study were to estimate groups of metabolite contains of Curcuma aeruginosa (Temu ireng) affecting toxicity activity by using group lasso regression and to compare it to partial least square regression (PLSR). The data used were toxicity activity and metabolite contain, obtained from LC-MS, of temu ireng from three areas in Java. The groups of metabolites which affected toxicity activity, of group lasso regression by using dedicated software of R with gglasso package, were groups of m/z 238.150, 250.165, 262.128, 264.144, 312.275, and 456.183. The estimates of metabolites that affected of group lasso regression and PLSR had similarities. Based on the goodness of fit, group lasso regression was better than PLSR to estimate the affecting groups.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the impact of lockdown, social distancing, and isolation of symptomatic patients on the transmission of infectious respiratory diseases. The study uses predictive mathematical models to explore disease progression and evaluate control strategies. The results show that the disease-free equilibrium is locally stable but globally unstable, indicating that while these measures can slow the infection, they alone cannot eradicate the disease. Local stability was assessed using the determinant-trace matrix method, while global stability was analyzed through the Lyapunov-Krasovskii method, revealing instability around the global endemic equilibrium. Bifurcation analysis was conducted to identify critical points where small parameter changes could cause significant shifts in system behavior. Numerical simulations were performed using Python’s NumPy and PyPlot libraries to understand the dynamics of disease spread and evaluate various intervention strategies. The simulations demonstrated how changes in control measures affect the disease’s trajectory. In the absence of effective treatments or vaccines, the findings suggest that social distancing, lockdowns, and isolation are vital for controlling the spread of the pandemic and reducing mortality. These strategies will be essential for mitigating the impact of the disease in the short term.

Abstract

This study examines Geometric Programming (GP) developments from 2014 to 2024 through a systematic literature review, focusing on theoretical advancements (e.g., successive convexification, weighted-sum fuzzy GP), model generalizations (e.g., Robust GP, Neutrosophic GP), and integration with AI/ML. Using thematic analysis of peer-reviewed publications and case studies, the results demonstrate GP’s unique capability to transform nonconvex problems into convex forms via logarithmic transformations, enabling efficient solutions for energy systems and logistics. While GP has achieved global maturity with tools like CVXPY and GPkit, its adoption in Indonesia remains limited despite relevance to archipelagic energy distribution and infrastructure planning (e.g., IKN). The study identifies critical requirements for local implementation: context-specific validation, enhanced computational capacity, and interdisciplinary collaboration, providing a strategic framework for GP’s evidence-based application in Indonesia.
