Abstract

Positive psychology (Psy –Cap= Psychology Capital), is the study on the strength and the excess of human mental factors that enables the growth of positive behaviors in the daily life as well as the work environment as a mean to reach welfare (well being). Psy-Cap approach is different from the Traditional Psychology approach with focuses on mental illness. Psy-Cap which has more preventive approaches has altered the orientation of the applications of modern psychology concepts to the environment and organizational field. This kind study is often refered as Positive Organizational Behavior (POB). This paper describes the research on the influence of Psy-Cap on the higher education world. In specific, the influence of the Psy-Cap and Learning Environment interaction to the relation between the National Adminission Test (SPMB) score and the Psycho-Test Score (IQ and EQ) toward the SBM-ITB students’ achievement index (GPA). The objects of this research are the SBM-ITB students (class of 2004). The data collecting method are through the opened and the closed questionnaires. The number of respondent is 110, however only 87 are valid. For data-processing, the statistical method ( reliabilities and validity test) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were used.  The research found that: (1) The psycho test score (IQ and EQ) does not significantly influence the GPA; (2) The Psy-Cap factors of the students (hope state, optimism state, resiliency state, self efficiency, and subjective well being state) significantly influence the GPA; (3) not all interaction result of psy-cap and learning environment influence the GPA. This means some learning environment factors still do not have good qualities. (4) the good qualities of the learning environment factors in SBM are: computers and information technology, individual experiences, art, music, theatres, and friendship among students; (5) the less-good qualities of the learning environment factors in SBM are: library, lectures, experiences with lecturers and sponsor staffs, campus facilities, writing experience, club and organization, scientific and quantitative experience, topic of conversation, and source of information for the materials of conversation. Keywords: Positive Psychological Capital, Hope state, Optimism state, Resiliency state, Self efficiency, Subjective Well-Being state

Abstract

This paper aims at describing factors that influence consumer intention to use new technology and how these factors interact with each other. The Academic Information System of the School of Business and Management ITB was selected as the unit of analysis and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model was used to identify the degree of acceptance of different groups of users to the systems and the factors that influence their intention to use it. This study involves different user groups (students and lecturers). To provide further understanding of consumer behavior in technology adoption, Structural Equation Modeling will be used to test simultaneous effect of the factors in the model. Keywords: technology acceptance, Academic Information Systems, consumer behavior

Abstract

It is widely accepted that the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) as a management philosophy has significantly contributed to good management practice in business organization particularly in the manufacturing and service sectors. The applications of that concepts, techniques and tools have been successfully tailored to non-profit service or government-based organization. In the context of higher education institution, it has been seriously debated by the TQM scholars and academicians on the issue of to what extent TQM can be applied and how relevant its practices are to higher education's core business i.e. teaching and research. Despite having sufficient knowledge and research on TQM implementation in the scope of manufacturing practices and administration-related services, it is hard to find a research on TQM, which focuses on the scope of R&D at a university. This gap has to be filled because the management of research is a critical topic for universities worldwide. For developing countries such as Malaysia the need to have good management practice in R&D is even greater. Without effective research management, the task of becoming significant players in the global knowledge market will become harder. Thus, the first part of this paper will discuss the applicability of TQM and propose a theoretical framework or model of TQM to suit the need of R&D context. The constructs for the TQM framework are based on previous empirical studies and the evaluation criteria of world standard criteria such as MBNQA, EFQM, and QMS ISO 9000. The TQM constructs that will be proposed are leadership, strategic planning, student/stakeholder & industry focus, data & information management, staff management, process & system approach, partnership & resource and continuous improvement. The second part of the paper will discuss the performance indicators of R&D activities particularly in the context of public university. The review of international literatures stressed that the performance of R&D activities have to be measured. The current issue related to research performance at university is the level the research output that can be transferred to the stakeholders. Therefore, this study will use technology transfer framework to measure research performance such as publication, patents, royalty and Spin-off Company. Finally, this paper will conceptually develop a model that would show the relationship between the TQM practices in the area of research and the level of technology transfer. Keywords: TQM, Technology Transfer, Commercialization, University, Research Management

Abstract

Shari'a banking are expanding and growing rapidly nowadays, as shown by the increasing market shares at several already existing shari'a banks as well as births of new shari'a banks induced by conventional banks. Such growth is also proven at Bank Shari'a Mandiri (BSM), namely the Bandung Mandiri Shari'a Bank, by a significant increase in the number of its financing customers. Indeed, the increase could not be separated from the churn rate, namely customer migration and absorption from conventional banks or the other existing shari'a banks to Bandung BSM. Financing customer migration thus becomes an important matter to be studied, in order to find out about the driving factors for financing customers' preferences to be made an input for Bandung BSM for planning a strategy to cope with the market share increase. This research was aimed at identifying financing customers' preferences toward Bandung BSM by studying the dominant factors influencing the financing customers to choose and migrate to Bandung BSM and using the factor analysis method to observe the churn rate risks. Samples are taken from a number of Bandung BSM customers, selected through questionnaires. There are three factors influencing customer preferences for choosing Bandung BSM, namely: availability of supporting facilities, leadership, and shari'a. Based on impact-probability matrix analyses, it is shown that there are three attributes that have high probability values, that is, profit sharing system, administrative easiness, and leadership factors. Results of this research also showed that the Bandung BSM churn rate risks were of medium to high probability, and this will greatly impact the bank's performance. Therefore, some real effort is necessary to minimize the churn rate risks. Keywords:customer preference, chun rate risk, factor analysis, risk analysis, risk identification, risk measurement, impact-probability matrix

Abstract

The industrial sector is highlighted as the chief cause of the rapidly environmental change in the recent years. Because natural environment has strong correlation with human life and his activities to achieve well being, thereby industrial or business sector, the chief of human activities, is demanded to play as the central role in Sustainable Development. According to sustainable concept, there are three missions that have to be performed in sustainable development-sustainability in economics, environment and social. Of the three missions, environment and social are always taken in weak positions by business Actors. As the central actors in sustainable development, business actors should take the three of missions balance and together in their entire business activities. Based on same literatures and some successful stories in business practices, the author founded two important patterns that evolve recently how a corporation could be named as a suistanle corporation. First, the corporation developed partnership in eco-industrial part and the second; the corporation did its corporate social responsibility. Keywords: sustainability, sustainable corporation, , sustainable concept for business

Abstract

This research started when President Yudhoyono visited USA and met with Bill Gates back in 2005. President Yudhoyono later asked Gates to establish Microsoft Research Centre in Indonesia to promote the Indonesian ICT industry. Later that year, the Indonesian Government signed a MOU with the Microsoft Research Centre Asia in Beijing to extend the cooperation between Microsoft and the Indonesian Government. The MOU later took form as Microsoft Innovation Centre in ITB and ITS. The problem arises whether Microsoft will build the Microsoft Research Centre in Indonesia? Will Indonesia be able to become a leading software exporter? How the Microsoft Research centre will someday established in Indonesia. This research later focused on establishing an R&D facility in developing countries. The main concern is Microsoft research center due to its latest agreement with the Indonesian Government. The dilemma facing Microsoft research center establishment in Indonesia is analyzed using Actor-Network Analysis. The software used for this analysis is DANA (Dynamic Actor Network Analysis). The data for input of the software was gained through interviews and secondary data gathering. The issue discussed is whether ITB should involve in establishing Microsoft research center Indonesia or not. The result show that ITB should involve in minimum capacity. The result using simulation and benchmark suggest that Microsoft should begin the establishment of a research centre in Indonesia, not the other way around i.e. academics (ITB) as the primary mover. The Indonesian Government should also induce foreign knowledge-based companies to invest in Indonesia. Keywords: Microsoft research centre, feasibility study, technology transfer
