Abstract

Purpose. The Research examined the gender variance in the deployment of ICTs by library and information science students in the library schools in southern Nigeria. The research addressed four research queries and formulated hypotheses. Methodology. The research design deployed in the research was descriptive. A structured questionnaire was deployed as a data collection tool. The research population included 6,247 LIS students from 12 library schools in southern Nigeria. The sample consisted of 624 respondents selected using standard random sampling methods. The data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation, percentage and product-person-moment correlation coefficient (PPMC). Results and Discussion. The research showed that ICT tools are easily accessible for university students. Accessibility was found to have a momentous impact on the deployment of ICT among LIS students in southern Nigerian universities. Conclusion. The study concludes that while both male and female LIS students in Southern Nigerian universities actively use ICT tools with equal frequency, their limited proficiency and tendency to prioritise non-academic use highlight the need for targeted educational initiatives to enhance productive and skilful ICT deployment. Based on the research results, it was recommended that ICT training courses and workshops be provided for LIS students to improve their expertise in using these tools.

Abstract

Purpose. This study analyses strategies, challenges, and obstacles in developing accessibility and services for visitors with disabilities at the Jakarta-Cikini Library. Methodology. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using observations, interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected through purposive sampling and included staff from the service section and the Inclusion Room, as they are directly responsible for managing library services and inclusive facilities. Managing library services and the management of the Inclusion Room. Results and discussion. The findings show that the library implements several strategies to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. These include organising disability-related activities during specific events, promoting services through word-of-mouth and outreach to special education institutions, and utilising social media campaigns. The library also collaborates with disability organisations to procure assistive devices, develop accessible collections, and enhance staff competence. A disability-friendly environment has also been established within the library. However, several challenges remain, including limited innovation in promotional efforts, a shortage of competent human resources, and restricted space, tools, and collections. The library further encounters obstacles related to internal and external regulations affecting collaboration and building maintenance, as well as inadequate public facilities that hinder mobility for people with disabilities. Conclusions. The Jakarta-Cikini Library has undertaken multiple efforts to improve inclusive services through facility provision, staff capacity-building, targeted promotion, and partnerships with disability organisations, technology companies, and educational institutions. However, administrative barriers, limited resources, and insufficient supporting infrastructure remain significant obstacles to fully realising an accessible and inclusive library environment.

Abstract

Purpose. This study aims to determine the topic trends and indexation of archival articles on the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) from 2020 to 2024. Methodology. The research method used in this study is quantitative descriptive with search on the SINTA platform and data analysis using web voyant tools. Results and discussion. The results of the study show that in the last five years, there have been 290 archive articles with a total of 1,420 keywords. The trend of topics seen by keywords is dominated by the keywords "archive," "record," and "digital." However, every year there is an expansion of research themes such as legal aspects, content specialization, and governance that strengthen archival as a field that is able to respond to the challenges of the times without losing its original identity. Meanwhile, indexation of archival journals tends to have low indexation with a high category (70%) dominated by Garuda indexation, and for medium indexation it is in the low category or with a percentage of 25% while high indexation is categorized as very low, which is 5%. Conclusions. Overall, the study shows that while interest in archival research still needs to be increased, there are great opportunities for future development, especially by leveraging digital technologies and expanding academic networks. Systematic efforts from various stakeholders can help improve the quality and impact of archival research at the national and international levels.

Abstract

Purpose. This study explores the responses of academic libraries to technological advancements, focusing on the IAIN Curup Library in Indonesia, and evaluates its adaptation to the evolving dynamics of liquid modernity.   Methodology. Using the E-Readiness Assessment Models as a framework, the research examines the library’s technological infrastructure, human resources, regulatory environment, and digital engagement. Result and Discussion. The findings highlight that while the library has established strong technological foundations, including digital repositories and automation systems, there remain significant gaps in its readiness for adopting newer technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital libraries. They already overcame the library's digital competencies with workshops and self-teaching, but its lack of specific AI regulations and librarian skills is also addressed. Conclusion. The study underscores the need for continuous professional development, digital services and the creation of comprehensive policies to facilitate AI integration. The research contributes to understanding how academic libraries can effectively respond to technological changes while maintaining alignment with institutional goals and broader societal shifts toward digital engagement.

Abstract

Purpose. Digital transformation accelerated by advances in artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the way students explore and evaluate information, especially in the early stages of digital literacy. This study aims to analyse the information literacy practices of students of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang in the context of Digital Humanities, focusing on the use of AI-based tools in the search, discovery and evaluation of information sources. Methodology. This research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive-comparative design. The sample consisted of 245 FAH and FST students of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, who were purposively selected. Data were collected through a five-point Likert questionnaire and analysed using SPSS version 26 with descriptive and Chi-Square tests. The validity and reliability of the instruments were tested, with Cronbach's Alpha >0.80. Results and discussion. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents routinely use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, Gemini, and Perplexity for initiating information searches. AI is considered highly useful for initial reference discovery, expanding exploration scopes, and distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant sources. However, doubts remain among students regarding AI's effectiveness in assessing source credibility. These results underscore the need to integrate critical thinking approaches into AI-based digital literacy education in Islamic higher education institutions. Conclusions. This study contributes to the Digital Humanities discourse by offering an initial mapping of students' interaction patterns with AI in the digital information literacy landscape.
