Abstract

This study discusses the study of Islam Nusantara culture in mathematics learning. This research uses library method. The data obtained is a publication of research articles in a scientific journal. The article analyzed includes three stages, namely organize, synthesize, and identify. The results of data analysis show that (1) culture of Islam Nusantara can be used to teach a concept in learning mathematics, (2) this culture can be used as material in strengthening character education, (3) and this culture can develop the ability of cultural literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of mathematics student-teachers of Yogyakarta State University (YSU). The population is mathematics student-teachers of YSU in their seventh semester of the academic year 2017/2018 who undertook ethnomathematics. A sample of 31 students was established using the cluster random sampling technique. The research instrument is in the form of ethnomathematics lesson plans developed by the students. The result of the study shows that the students’ PCK in developing ethnomathematics lesson plans is generally at the level of growing PCK. Viewed from the material and pedagogical aspects, the students’ PCK falls at the level of growing PCK. The students’ PCK in developing the lesson plans of ethnomathematics of Prambanan Temple is at the level of growing PCK. The students’ PCK in developing the lesson plans of ethnomathematics of Yogyakarta Palace is at the level of pre-PCK. The students’ PCK in developing the lesson plans of ethnomathematics of Borobudur Temple is at the level of growing PCK.

Abstract

This research is qualitative research with case study method. The focus of this research is to explore the value of ethnomathematics in the culture of the Bali Mula society in the Kintamani sub-district, Bali Province. The research starts from the exploration phase of ethnomathematics, mapping ethnomathematics with school mathematics, explores aspects of pedagogy in the preservation of ethnomathematics and concludes on how ethnomathematics is applied to mathematics learning in schools. Data collection was carried out through observation of Mejejahitan activities carried out by Bali Mula women. Data from observations are then linked to the results of documentation analysis and strengthened by the results of interviews. The triangulation method is carried out to check the validity of the research data. Based on the results of data analysis there is a relationship between the activities of Mejejahitan with school mathematics. The mathematical concepts contained in the Majejahitan activity that is reflecting (reflecting) and predicting or predicting patterns. Because there is a relationship between Majejahitan activities with school mathematics, it can be said that there are ethnomathematics values in the culture of the Bali Mula society in Kintamani District, Bali Province.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to study ethnomathematics in the calendar system of the baduy tribe. The study of ethnomathematics in our research used ethnography methods. We found a unique pattern in baduy calendar that the first day in the previous month + 2 days after the first day of the previous month equals to the first day in the next month, in which,  it is the reason why baduy people who have no mathematical knowledge from the formal school can predict, for an example,  the first day in the next months.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the type of ethnomathematics used in the process of counting fish in Sapuran Market, Wonosobo, which can be applied in teaching processes. The method used in this study is the observation of fish trading and interviews with fish traders in Sapuran Market, Wonosobo.  The research findings show that the process of counting fish in the market applies ethnomathematics, including the addition of integer and reduction of the integer. The mathematical concept used in the addition operation is the storing technique, while the reduction operation applies the borrowing technique. The implementation of mathematics teaching using the ethnomathematics approach adopted from the activities of fish counting at Sapuran Market, Wonosobo can help improve students’ understanding of the addition and reduction materials for elementary school.
