Abstract

Pedestrian Ways are one of the city elements that consist of public open spaces as a container for activities and pedestrian circulation. The existence of pedestrian ways is very important to support urban activities, so the effectiveness of the function of Pedestrian Ways also needs to be considered. The study area is located on the corridor of Jl. A.A. Gede Ngurah, which is part of the Cakranegara Business District (CBD) and known as the center of the business district of Mataram City, so the potential for mobility and pedestrian activities is quite high. Unfortunately, this potential is not supported by the spatial behavior of the community, which tends to form certain spatial claims on pedestrian ways, resulting in a disruption of space function. This research was conducted to determine how the phenomenon of public space claims is formed in the study area. The research method used was a qualitative descriptive method with observation techniques to observe the phenomenon that occurred in the field. In general, from the results of the research, it can be concluded that the spatial claims of the surrounding community in the study area lead to territorial behavior with territorial expansion patterns and privatization of public space for personal interests.

Abstract

Sade Village is a unique village which becomes the gate of the nature of the Sasak tribe of Lombok. One of the cultural products of the Sasak tribe is the Bale Tani and Bale Lumbung traditional houses. However, the popularity of Bale Tani is far less popular than Bale Lumbung. This study aims to demonstrate the potential of Bale Tani as a neo-vernacular architectural design that is sustainable against the times. This study describes the comparison between Bale Tani and Bale Lumbung in terms of popularity, utility, and aesthetics. This study also visualizes Bale Tani as a reference for the prototype design of a modern house with the theme Green Building in Tropical. The primary source of this research was obtained from a public survey which was conducted online while the secondary source was obtained from intensive studies of various books and journals, both national and international. The results of the study show that Bale Tani has the potential to be developed into a neo-vernacular building that has aesthetics, utility, and sustainability that is superior to the conventional Bale Tani. Researchers hope that, as a nation rich in culture, we must preserve our culture so that it will not be consumed by the times. This can be done by uniting determination and cooperation between the community and the government. Bale Tani neo-vernacular can be one proof of the preservation of our culture.

Abstract

It’s crucial for children’s growth to socialize and play among their peers. To accommodate children’s need to play, some housing developers, including Perumahan Graha Padma, provide playground. However, in Taman Oleander cluster, children barely use the playground as they prefer to play on the street in front of their house instead. It is important to understand the cause of the phenomenon in order to solve the root of the problem. To conduct the research, the data is collected through observation and interview with children who are playing on the street. Then the collected data will be analyzed to interpret the quality of the street and the playground as a place for children’s activities. The playground in Taman Oleander cluster is too far from the houses and too narrow for children to play. On top of that, parents don’t feel safe letting their children to play at their blind spot area. This research can be used as a reference, so in the future when developers creating more playgrounds, children will use them.
