Abstract

The Ayoh Ku Kelulut Beekeepers Community is a group of individuals actively involved in the endeavor of breeding Trigona sp. (stingless bee) honey bees in the area of Pengkalan Gelap, 2210 Kuala Setiu, Terengganu, Malaysia. The current challenge faced is the lack of understanding about the core values of beekeeping from an Islamic perspective. The purpose of this community engagement initiative is to provide comprehensive education, training, and guidance in the Islamic aspects related to beekeeping. All of these efforts are carried out with the intention of fostering enthusiasm among beekeepers, motivating them to tirelessly strive in producing exceptional quality honey. The implementation of this program is divided into two stages, involving sessions that deliver knowledge on the significance of bees and honey in the context of the Al-Qur'an and As-Sunnah, as well as training sessions focused on the wisdom associated with beekeeping and honey management. The positive impact of this step is the enhancement of beekeepers' understanding regarding the significance and relevance of beekeeping within the framework of Islamic teachings. This success is expected to strengthen the beekeepers' determination to care for the bees, thereby producing honey that meets higher quality standards.

Abstract

Household organic waste management in densely populated areas such as Tegalrejo, Yogyakarta, poses a significant challenge that impacts both environmental quality and public health. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of local residents—particularly members of the PRA Tegalrejo women's group—in utilizing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, or maggots, as biological agents for organic waste decomposition. The training was conducted through educational sessions, live demonstrations on maggot utilization, and interactive discussions. The results showed a 14.73% increase in participants’ understanding, based on pretest and posttest scores. Participants not only gained knowledge about the decomposition process using maggots, but also recognized the potential of maggot farming as a source of animal feed and local economic opportunity. This program demonstrates that hands-on, eco-friendly education can effectively encourage community participation in waste management while simultaneously strengthening environmental resilience and household socio-economic sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by the talkshow method on students’ oral communication skills in environmental change topics. The research was conducted at SMAN 2 Surakarta using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design cluster random sampling involving two classes: the experimental group received the PBL model with talkshow, and the control group used conventional PBL. Data were collected using an observation sheet covering seven indicators of oral communication: introduction, thesis statement, subject knowledge, movement, eye contact, fluency, and voice. The results showed that students in the experimental group had higher average scores in oral communication skills than those in the control group. Statistical analysis using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Levene’s test of homogeneity, and t-test. The t-test result of 0.003 showed a significant differences between the two groups. The implementation of the PBL model assisted by talkshow enhanced students' confidence, engagement, and verbal communication during biology learning. This finding implies that integrating interactive talkshow methods into PBL can effectively improve students’ oral communication skills in high school settings.
