Abstract

Red mud crab (Scylla olivacea) is an economic commodity that is traded into foreign countries such as China, Malaysia, and Singapore so that fishing activities are carried out intensively. Therefore, we need scientific information about the status of red mud crab fishery stock. Information about the natural mortality, fishing mortality, and the exploitation level of crabs can be used as the basis for crab fisheries management. The study was conducted for 2 (two) years, February to October 2017, and March to December 2018 using the survey method. The results showed that 36% of the crabs were caught below the 120 mm size as regulated in Regulation of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries No. 12 Year 2020. The carapace width of the first capture (CWc) is smaller than the size of the carapace width of the first gonad maturity (CWm). This shows that the crab has been captured before the first gonad maturity (CWc < CWm). The growth rate (K) is 0.65 per year with fishing mortality (F) higher than natural mortality (M). Exploitation level (E) 0.70 which indicates that the status fisheries of red mud crab in Mimika have been overexploited. Efforts need to be done by the Regional Government in collaboration with local community leaders in providing counseling and information about the size of red mud crabs that can be caught and reduce efforts to use crabs by as much as 40% of what is currently done. Keywords: status explotation, red mud crabs, Mimika, FMA 718

Abstract

Fiberglass aid vessels KM. Nelayan 2018 with a size of ≤5 gross tonnage not all can be directly used by local fishermen. Cilacap Regency received 7 aid vessel and it had to renovate. The renovation related to technical design factors, while it is still not yet be reviewed. This study aims to identify and compare differences in technical design factors between the aid vessel and the local vessel. Identification method by direct observation, including measurements of the main dimensions, shape of the hull and bow, general arrangement and working area. The identification data is compared to get the differences. Observation results show that the aid vessel have a ratio of L/D and L/B between local vessel values they are 8,96 from 7,72-9,20 and 13,33 from 12,92-14,11, but have the smallest value at B/D which is 1,49 from 1,51-1,71. The Hulls shape have same type, they are "u-bottom". The shape of the bow and the stern also have the same shape, they are raked bow and transom stern, but height of aid vessel bows is 1,9 m, it is higher than the average of local vessels which only 1,34 m. The height of the engine mount at the stern is also too high at 56 cm, while the average on the local vessel is 53 cm. The general arrangement and working area almost same. The vessel feature, safety and security factors of fishermen need to be improved in aid vessel. Keywords: feature, fiberglass fishing vessel, technical factor design

Abstract

The small pelagic resources in the waters of Kendari (FMA 714) that are dominant are mackerel scad (Decapterus macarellus) and Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta). Fishing in these waters uses a mini purse seine, with the production of 2 species of fish has reached 38.2% of the total allowed catch FMA 714. Because of intensive use, management needed to preserve resources. The purpose of this study is to determine the decent size based on a comparison of length of the first capture (Lc) and the length of first mature (Lm), and prediction of spawning season. Data collection was conducted by researchers and assisted by enumerators monthly. The results showed that the size of the mackerel scad in between 17.5 - 30.5 cm FL (n = 3207 tails). The size of the Indian mackerel found between 18.5 - 26.5 cm FL (n = 2556). The length at first captured of both species was larger than the size at first matured (Lm> Lc) so that the decent size is 23 cm FL for mackerel scad and 22 cm FL for Indian mackerel. The prediction of the spawning season in May-August can be the basis for closing the area during the spawning season. Abstract

Fishing with purse seine fishing gear has been carried out by many fishermen, which are generally aimed at catching pelagic fish. Jepara District is one of the coastal areas of the North Coast of Java, located in Central Java Province. This condition makes Jepara Regency have a marine-based economic side of life which has the potential of fish resources that have been used by local fishermen for a long time. The current condition has a tendency to decline in production, which is thought to be due to overfishing. This study aims to obtain an overview of the dominant fish caught by the purse seine and to see the productivity of the purse seine. The research method used is a survey method, by conducting interviews with 20 fishermen, the head of the Ujungbatu Fish Auction Place (TPI) and his staff. The data obtained are data on catch production, composition of types of catch and other data. The results are expected to be able to provide an overview of the dominant fish catch and productivity of purse siene in the waters of Jepara District. The conclusion that can be drawn from this research is that there are three types of fish that are dominant catch, namely layang fish, mackerel and squid. During the last five years (from 2015 - 2019), production tends to experience a significant decline. Meanwhile, the productivity has also decreased as well. Based on the calculation of the productivity level according to KEPMEN KP No.61/2014, the productivity level (2019) of purse seines that land their catch at TPI Ujungbatu Jepara is 4.45, meaning that the production produced in 2019 year is 4.45 tons per vessel 1 GT used. Abstract

This research was aiming at analysing ergonomic aspects and identifying potential hazards resulted from fishing activities. Data was collected from a long line fishing vessel MV Satelit. Analysis of ergonomic aspects focused on four major activities namely setting, drifting, hauling and fish handling. The investigation was conducted to examine the suitability of on board working area with fishermen’s movement. The result showed that on board working area was inadequate compared to fishermen’s movement because of limited zones for fishermen (ranged from 1 – 3 m2/ person) without any safety equipment. Based on Job Safety Analysis (JSA), it was revealed that there were 14 potential hazards emerging from fishing activities; 64,29% of them were moderate risk and the rest were trivial risk. However, fishermen have no significant efforts to prevent those hazards. Keywords: : ergonomic, fishing vessel, occupational health and safety, tuna fishing, potential hazards

Abstract

In the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Affair Decree No. 45/2014 stated that an environmental consideration should take into account in controlling waste in fishing port area, including ship-generated waste. Marine pollution is one of the factors cause environmental damage including marine environment. Fishing activities is one of activites that has the potential to cause pollution of the sea. The objective of this research was to identify the waste type generated by fishing vessels and identify fishermens’s behavior patterns on the waste handling. The research was conducted in PPN Palabuhanratu (Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port). The data of waste type were collected from all kind of fishing vessels that grouped base on their dimension. The results show that, organic waste dominated the waste compotition, and from the fishers habit point of view most fishers still ignore the importance of marine pollution prevention effort. It showed from their habit to dispose waste not in the rigt place. Keywords: : fishing boats, marine pollution, organic waste, PPN Palabuhanratu

Abstract

Modern Fish Market (MFM) is the result of relocation from the Fish Marketing Center (FMC) located at the Nizam Zachman Ocean Fisheries Port in Jakarta (NZOFPJ). The relocation of the market has caused traders to protest against the manager. One of their actions is to go on a fish payment strike, which affects the stability MFM cash flow. Accordingly, the management needs to investigate the financial condition of MFM to determine future actions for the market sustainability. However, no study has been conducted regarding the financial condition of MFM. This study aims to determine the comparison of MFM and FMC revenue and strategies to improve the existing situation. A case study was conducted in the Nizam Zachman Fishing Port in Jakarta. Financial data of MFM and FMC including problems encountered by MFM were collected from the business division of Perum Perindo Jakarta, MFM management team and MFM traders. Revenue analysis, SWOT analysis as well as Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix were perfomed in this study. The results showed that revenue generated by the MFM was IDR 1,474,085,972.00, which is lower than the FMC revenue (IDR 2,360,855,000.00). In order to improve MFM financial situation, nine strategies have been formulated and primarily it has been focused on the development of small and medium enterprises. Keywords: revenue, management, modern fish market, NZOFPJ, strategy.

Abstract

Cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) is one of the leading export commodities landed at the Prigi Fishing Port (PPN Prigi). Skipjack tuna fisheries management conducted the conventional single-species Schaefer model which is often applied although it is not technically suitable for multispecies fishery. The application of feedback harvest control rule (HCR) is an alternative harvest strategy that has been successfully implemented and validated for multispecies fishery. This study estimated allowable biological catch by applying two harvest strategies, HCR feedback and Schaefer surplus production model using catch-effort data of skipjack tuna landed at PPN Prigi in the period 2010 - 2019. Model Schaefer pointed out that catches have exceeded the maximum sustainable yield () even employed low the fishing effort which was under the fishing mortality consistent with achieving MSY (). The application of feedback HCR that has been previously validated can be an alternative of harvest strategy for use in fisheries where only mixed species data is available. Key words: multispecies fishery, harvest strategy, Schaefer model, maximum sustainable yield, single-species approach
