Abstract

Introduction: High-quality maternal and child health services are essential for reducing maternal and child mortality. The Maternal and Child Health (MCH/KIA) handbook can be effective when mothers and families actively learn and apply its guidance in daily life. Objective: To identify factors influencing pregnant women’s knowledge regarding the utilization of the MCH handbook at PMB Midwife M, Bojong Gede, during July–August 2025. Method: This survey used a cross-sectional design with total sampling. A total of 55 pregnant women participated. Variables assessed included maternal age, education, occupation, attitude, and other related factors. Data were analyzed using statistical association tests. Results and Discussion: Significant relationships were found between maternal age and knowledge, education and knowledge, maternal occupation and knowledge, and attitude and knowledge regarding MCH handbook utilization. These findings suggest that socio-demographic characteristics and maternal attitudes shape how well pregnant women understand and use the handbook. Conclusion: Four of six examined variables significantly influenced knowledge. Health providers should target mothers with limited understanding to strengthen counseling and promote MCH handbook use across pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, family planning, and child development

Abstract

Introduction: Refillable Drinking Water Depots (DAM) are one of the main alternatives in meeting people's drinking water needs because they are easily accessible and relatively affordable. However, several studies show that the microbiological quality of drinking water in DAM is still a problem, especially related to the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria and total coliform which has the potential to cause waterborne diseases such as diarrhea. Objective: This literature review aims to identify and analyze the factors that affect the quality of drinking water microbiology in DAM based on research in 2022–2025, article search via Google Scholar. Method: The method used was a literature review of five studies with a cross-sectional design that examined the variables of sanitation hygiene, equipment maintenance, processing process, personal hygiene operator, sanitation of the place, raw water source, and water storage time. Result and Discussion: The results of the study showed that the most consistent factors related to the quality of microbiology were equipment sanitation, operator/handler hygiene, and drinking water maintenance and treatment process. Meanwhile, some studies have found that raw water sources and storage times do not necessarily show a significant relationship. Conclusion: These findings confirm that aspects of hygiene, sanitation, and operational management of DAM have an important role in preventing bacteriological contamination. Therefore, routine supervision, coaching, and increased compliance with sanitation hygiene standards are needed to ensure the safety of refillable drinking water for the community

Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women in Indonesia. It accounts for 30.1% of all cancer cases in women, with 66,271 new cases and a mortality rate reaching 22,598 deaths. This high mortality rate is not only caused by the malignancy of the cancer cells themselves but also by the fact that more than 70% of patients present to health facilities at an advanced stage. Early detection through Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is a simple yet effective method; however, its practice remains low, even among health science students. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the determinants of BSE behavior, focusing on knowledge, attitudes, and exposure to information. Methods: This study employed an analytical quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from health science students using validated questionnaires. Results and Discussion: The results showed a significant correlation between the level of knowledge and attitudes toward breast self-examination (BSE) practice. However, a knowledge-practice gap was identified, where high theoretical knowledge did not always translate into routine practice due to psychological barriers such as fear. Conclusion: Optimizing BSE behavior requires more than just knowledge; a more comprehensive approach is needed. Psychological support and digital-based educational strategies are essential to enhance self-efficacy among female students

Abstract

Introduction: Food allergies represent a significant health challenge in children as they directly impact growth and development. While incurable, the frequency and intensity of allergic reactions can be managed to improve the quality of life. Objective: This study aims to review current management strategies for pediatric food allergies, focusing on prevention and clinical interventions. Method: The research utilizes a systematic literature review of established medical guidelines and clinical trials related to pediatric allergy management. Result and Discussion: Effective management relies on strict allergen avoidance and nutritional counseling to prevent malnutrition. For acute reactions, epinephrine remains the primary first-line treatment, while antihistamines and corticosteroids manage milder symptoms. Emergent therapies such as oral and sublingual immunotherapy show promise in inducing allergen tolerance, though they require strict medical supervision due to potential adverse effects.  Conclusions: Comprehensive management of food allergies involves a combination of strict avoidance, pharmacological preparedness for emergencies, and the potential application of immunotherapy to enhance patient outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Dietary patterns and physical activity levels are critical determinants of health. UNICEF reports show a significant increase in processed food and fat consumption among Indonesian adolescents. Additionally, physical activity levels remain low, often falling below 90 minutes per week. These factors directly influence body composition as measured by Body Mass Index (BMI). Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between dietary patterns, physical activity, and BMI among medical students at Universitas Kristen Indonesia, batch of 2022. Method: This research used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved a sample of 112 participants. Data were collected using dietary pattern questionnaires and the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. Result and Discussion: The bivariate analysis using the chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.697 for the relationship between dietary patterns and BMI, indicating no significant correlation. However, the analysis of physical activity showed a significant relationship with BMI, with a p-value of 0.000. These results suggest that physical movement has a more immediate impact on BMI than dietary habits in this specific population. Conclusions: Physical activity significantly correlates with BMI among the studied students, while dietary patterns do not show a statistically significant association.
