Abstract

Background: Geometric morphometric analysis has become an essential quantitative approach for evaluating complex craniofacial morphology beyond traditional linear measurements. Advances in three-dimensional imaging have expanded its application in diagnosis, treatment planning, and outcome assessment in craniofacial and dental practice. However, a comprehensive synthesis of its clinical relevance remains limited. Method: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar for articles published between 2019 and 2024. Eligible studies included original research involving human subjects that applied geometric morphometric analysis to craniofacial structures with reported diagnostic or therapeutic relevance. Study selection, data extraction, and qualitative synthesis were performed independently. Results: Eight studies met the inclusion criteria. The findings demonstrated that geometric morphometrics is widely applied in odontological analysis and orthognathic surgery. Applications in forensic and anthropological research further highlighted its utility in population and individual identification. Conclusion: Geometric morphometric analysis provides a objective framework for craniofacial diagnosis and treatment planning. Its integration with three-dimensional imaging technologies enhances diagnostic accuracy and supports data-driven clinical decision-making. Future studies should focus on protocol standardization and large-scale clinical validation to facilitate broader implementation in routine practice.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is closely associated with periodontitis through chronic inflammation and impaired tissue healing, resulting in a bidirectional relationship that adversely affects both metabolic control and periodontal health. Omega-3 fatty acids possess anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving properties and have been proposed as adjunctive host-modulatory agents in periodontal therapy for patients with diabates. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation, alone or in combination with other adjunctive therapies, on periodontal and systemic outcomes in patients with periodontitis and type 2 diabetes mellitus. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed and Scopus databases for randomized controlled trials published between 2015 and 2025. Eligible studies investigated omega-3 fatty acid supplementation as an adjunct to nonsurgical periodontal therapy in patients with periodontitis and diabetes mellitus. Data were extracted and synthesized descriptively. Six randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria. Adjunctive omega-3 fatty acid supplementation consistently demonstrated greater improvements in periodontal parameters, including probing depth, clinical attachment level, and gingival inflammation, compared with nonsurgical periodontal therapy alone. Omega-3–based interventions were associated with significant reductions in inflammatory and cardiometabolic biomarkers, such as interleukins, pentraxin, chemerin, malondialdehyde, and glycated hemoglobin. Combined interventions, particularly omega-3 with low-dose aspirin or omega-3–enriched cranberry juice, yielded the most pronounced periodontal and metabolic benefits. Omega-3 fatty acids appear to be a promising adjunctive therapy for improving periodontal and systemic outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively analyze the potential neuropharmacological activities of Tectona grandis leaf extract through laboratory tests and structured literature review of 21 relevant scientific articles. The review focuses on bioactive mechanisms associated with neuropharmacological parameters, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective activities, which relate to behavioral effect measurements such as PSM, SSSP, DSSP, SL, RO, PSL, and ANA commonly used in animal studies. The research method employed a systematic literature review involving structured searching, selection, data extraction, and synthesis of findings from national and international publications. The results indicate that Tectona grandis contains several active compounds, including flavonoids, phenolics, and anthraquinones, which contribute to reducing oxidative stress, inhibiting inflammation, and producing analgesic effects relevant to neuropharmacological mechanisms. Although direct assessments of neurobehavioral parameters are limited, mechanistic evidence highlights a significant potential for developing natural-compound-based therapies. The study concludes that Tectona grandis is a promising natural resource for further neuropharmacological research, particularly related to behavioral parameters and molecular pathways.

Abstract

Chronic periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that leads to the progressive destruction of the supporting tissues of the teeth, resulting in clinical signs such as gingival redness, bleeding, and periodontal pocket formation. One of the treatment approaches commonly used to manage this condition is gingival curettage, a procedure aimed at removing inflamed and necrotic tissue from the gingival wall to promote healing and restore periodontal health. This case report describes the management of chronic periodontitis in a 21-year-old patient who presented with a complaint of persistent gingival redness in the upper right anterior region for approximately three months. Clinical examination revealed erythematous gingiva surrounding teeth 12 and 13, accompanied by a positive Bleeding on Probing response, indicating active inflammation. Based on these findings, a diagnosis of chronic periodontitis was established, and gingival curettage was performed as part of the periodontal therapy. Following the procedure, the patient showed significant clinical improvement, characterized by the disappearance of gingival redness, the absence of bleeding on probing, and the resolution of gingival swelling. These outcomes suggest that gingival curettage can effectively reduce inflammation and improve periodontal tissue condition when appropriately indicated. Nevertheless, the success of this procedure is closely related to patient compliance with oral hygiene practices and regular dental follow-up. Further studies with longer observation periods are needed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and stability of periodontal outcomes following gingival curettage.

Abstract

Background: Healthcare services are currently facing increasingly fierce competition, where the success of a healthcare institution is not only measured by medical aspects, but also by its ability to satisfy patients. Research objective: To identify the healthcare service attributes that most frequently trigger patient complaints and dissatisfaction based on research results from various healthcare facilities (public hospitals, private hospitals, maternity hospitals, and community health centers). Method: Systematic review of 10 research articles using the Service Quality (SERVQUAL), Importance Performance Analysis (IPA), and Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) methods. Results: Findings from 10 journals consistently show that the current quality of healthcare services is still below patient expectations (negative gap). The dominant factors that trigger complaints are divided into three main clusters:  the responsiveness dimension, related to the speed of service and staff response; the empathy dimension, related to the interpersonal attitude and friendliness of staff, which is still considered low; and the physical evidence dimension, related to the maintenance of basic facilities such as sanitation and the comfort of the waiting room. Complaints related to staff behavior (unfriendliness) and slow procedures are the most frequent triggers of conflict in both inpatient and outpatient units. Conclusion: Patient satisfaction is highly dependent on the integration of technical quality (facilities) and functional quality (staff behavior). Healthcare facilities are advised to prioritize improving staff interpersonal communication skills and conducting regular audits of service waiting times to minimize potential complaints and increase patient loyalty.

Abstract

Integrated Health Service Posts (Posyandu) represent a strategic effort to improve maternal and child health status through promotive and preventive activities at the community level. However, low attendance rates among toddlers at Posyandu remain a significant issue. According to the 2024 Batu Nangkop Health Center report, of the 1,101 target toddlers in Melungun Ratu Village, only 548 (49.7%) participated in weight monitoring a figure far below the established target of 85%. This condition reflects low maternal participation in Posyandu activities, which potentially hinders early detection of nutritional disorders and childhood developmental delays. This study aims to analyze the relationship between mothers' knowledge levels regarding Posyandu and the frequency of toddler visits. A quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study was conducted in July 2025 at the Melungun Ratu Village Posyandu with a sample of 65 respondents selected via total sampling. The research instrument consisted of a questionnaire, and data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results indicated that the majority of toddlers visited Posyandu irregularly (60%), and most mothers possessed a low level of knowledge (52.3%). Chi-square analysis yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and toddler attendance at Posyandu. The Odds Ratio (OR) of 29.7 indicates that mothers with good knowledge are 29 times more likely to bring their toddlers to Posyandu regularly compared to those with poor knowledge. It is recommended that healthcare workers and Posyandu volunteers enhance counseling and health education efforts to foster maternal awareness regarding the importance of Posyandu in monitoring toddler growth and development.

Abstract

Labor pain is a physiological experience reported by nearly all parturient women. Globally, approximately 93.5% of women in labor experience moderate to severe pain, while in Indonesia, the incidence of labor pain reaches 85–90%. In Lampung Province specifically, 37,264 women (approximately 30%) experience high-intensity labor pain. Unmanaged pain can lead to anxiety, fatigue, and prolonged labor. This study aims to determine the effect of endorphin massage and deep breathing relaxation techniques on labor pain at BPM Kiswari Amd.Keb, Central Metro, in 2025. This research employed a quasi-experimental approach with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted in July 2025 with a sample of 28 parturient women (14 in the intervention group and 14 in the control group) selected via consecutive sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to measure pain intensity before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test. The results indicated that the mean pain level in the intervention group decreased from 7.29 (severe pain) to 5.00 (moderate pain), whereas no significant change was observed in the control group. The Mann-Whitney test yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of endorphine massage and deep breathing relaxation techniques on reducing labor pain. It is recommended that healthcare providers, particularly midwives, implement these techniques as non-pharmacological methods of labor pain management to improve maternal comfort during the birthing process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of different solvents on the antioxidant activity of red fruit seed extract (Pandanus conoideus Lam). It was analysed using the DPPH assay and UV–Vis spectrophotometry. Samples were extracted using the maceration method with various solvents, namely 96% ethanol, n-hexane, and ethyl acetate. The yield results showed that ethanol, n-hexane, and ethyl acetate extracts yielded 18%, 12%, and 11%, respectively. Phytochemical screening tests showed that ethanol extracts contained flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. The n-hexane extract contained alkaloids, while the ethyl acetate extract contained alkaloids and saponins. Antioxidant activity was assessed based on the IC₅₀ value of the ethanol extract, which showed antioxidant activity with an IC₅₀ value of 54.67 μg/mL, categorised as a very strong antioxidant. The ethyl acetate extract had an IC₅₀ value of 19.92 μg/mL, categorised as strong, while the n-hexane extract showed the highest IC₅₀ of 9.40 μg/mL, categorised as very strong. These differences indicate that solvent polarity affects the amount and type of bioactive compounds extracted, thereby affecting the ability to capture free radicals. Thus, these results indicate that n-hexane solvent provides the strongest antioxidant activity in red fruit seed extractsc.

Abstract

Statistics Indonesia Exposure to cigarette smoke in pregnant women is correlated with an increased risk of low birth weight and child morbidity; evidence from the last 5 years in Indonesia also links household cigarette smoke exposure to the risk of stunting. Smoking remains a serious public health problem, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. Exposure to cigarette smoke not only impacts active smokers, but also vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children. The study used a qualitative-exploratory design with in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Informants were selected using purposive-maximum variation, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, husbands/family members of smokers, adolescents, health cadres, and religious and community leaders in six sub-districts in Bima City. The number of informants was 45 people, consisting of 21 in-depth interviews and 4 FGDs. The results showed that most people are aware of the dangers of smoking in general, but the perception of the risks to mothers and children is still low. Social norms, patriarchal culture, and the assumption that smoking is an individual right are the main factors influencing high exposure to cigarette smoke in households. The implementation of Bima Mayoral Regulation Number 15 of 2023 concerning Smoke-Free Areas (KTR) is considered positive, but has not been effective at the household level.

Abstract

Burn injuries represent a major health concern with high morbidity and a substantial risk of complications, including infection, delayed wound healing, and skin graft failure. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) has emerged as an increasingly utilized therapeutic modality in burn management, working through mechanisms such as edema reduction, enhanced tissue perfusion, stimulation of granulation tissue formation, and effective exudate control. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review design conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. The findings indicate that NPWT provides significant positive effects on clinical outcomes, including accelerated wound healing, reduced infection rates, improved graft take following split-thickness skin graft procedures, and shorter hospital length of stay. Furthermore, NPWT has been shown to be effective in emergency department and intensive care unit settings as a bridging intervention prior to definitive surgical management in patients with severe burn injuries. Nevertheless, variability in study designs, negative pressure parameters, and application techniques remains a challenge for the standardization of therapeutic protocols. Therefore, further well-designed randomized controlled trials are required to optimize clinical guidelines and establish appropriate patient selection criteria. Overall, NPWT represents an effective and recommended therapeutic option in modern burn wound management.
