Abstract

A 2023 survey in East Java reported a 1% HIV positive rate among pregnant women. Data from the East Java Provincial Health Office also shows an increase in reported HIV cases among women. One of the reasons that causes women to be included in the vulnerable group for contracting HIV/AIDS is because their husbands or sexual partners engage in unsafe sexual behavior outside of marriage. Women's vulnerability to the transmission of diseases such as HIV/AIDS is based on several factors that occur at the individual, household, and community levels as well as the macro level that often makes women unaware of the dangers of HIV/AIDS. There is still little research describing how women are at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. This study aims to analyze women's exposure to HIV/AIDS associated with risky sexual behavior. This qualitative study used an in-depth interview method with a semi-structured interview guide with 25 informants consisting of female informants, male informants, counselors and providers. health services at three service locations in East Java. Data were validated using member checking and peer debriefing techniques, then analyzed thematically. Risk behaviors that put women at risk of HIV/AIDS transmission were identified in men, including having sex with more than one sexual partner, bisexuality, purchasing sex, and inconsistent condom use. Meanwhile, risk behaviors among women included having more than one sexual partner, having a lower bargaining position in condom negotiations, prostitution, and forced sex.

Abstract

The provision of child health services is a key indicator of public health quality; however, access and utilization are often influenced by gender-related factors. This study examines the implementation of gender-inclusive child health services in Mataram City, focusing on policy and programmatic strategies. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with healthcare providers, parents, and policymakers, as well as direct observations in health facilities and a review of relevant policy documents and program reports. Data were analyzed using the SWOT framework (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). Findings indicate that although gender-sensitive policies and service guidelines exist, practical implementation remains uneven. Strengths include dedicated healthcare staff, ongoing community health programs, and strong local government support. Weaknesses involve limited gender-sensitive training for healthcare providers, cultural norms affecting service utilization, and disparities in access between boys and girls. Opportunities exist through enhanced public awareness campaigns, collaborative partnerships, and policy reinforcement, whereas threats arise from persistent social norms, resource constraints, and variability in service quality across facilities. The study concludes that improving gender-inclusive child health services in Mataram City requires enhanced provider training, consistent monitoring, community engagement, and integrated policy strategies to ensure equitable access and quality care for all children.

Abstract

Free radicals are one of the main causes of skin cell damage, resulting in premature aging. Antioxidants play an important role in neutralizing free radicals, thereby maintaining skin health. Kitolod leaves (Isotoma longiflora L.) are known to contain flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and polyphenols that have antioxidant potential. This study aims to formulate 70% ethanol extract of kitolod leaves into a peel-off gel mask preparation and evaluate its physical stability and antioxidant activity. The research method is experimental with variations in extract concentration of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Physical evaluation of the formulation included organoleptic testing, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, and drying time, while antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method. The results showed that all formulations met the characteristics of a good peel-off mask preparation and remained stable for 14 days of storage. The antioxidant activity test using the method showed that the IC50 value of kitolod leaf extract was 52.84 ppm, which is classified as strong. Thus, the peel-off gel mask containing kitolod leaf extract has the potential to be developed as a natural cosmetic product with good antioxidant activity.

Abstract

The rise of social media has transformed the way companies and businesses connect with consumers. One approach now widely used is content marketing, which seeks to capture attention and build engagement with audiences through the presentation of relevant, engaging, and valuable content. This study aims to analyze the influence of TikTok usage intensity and the type of content consumed on the self-esteem and mental health of Generation Z. The research is motivated by the increasing popularity of TikTok as a dominant social media platform among adolescents and young adults, raising psychological concerns that require deeper investigation. This study employs a quantitative approach using a survey method with 200 respondents aged 15–25 years who are active TikTok users. The instruments were measured using a 5-point Likert scale to assess TikTok usage intensity, content type, self-esteem (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale), and mental health (GHQ-12). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that TikTok usage intensity has a negative and significant effect on self-esteem and a positive and significant effect on mental health symptoms. This suggests that higher usage intensity leads to lower self-esteem and poorer mental well-being. Conversely, the type of content consumed has a positive and significant effect on self-esteem and a negative and significant effect on mental health, meaning that exposure to more positive content improves psychological conditions. Simultaneously, both TikTok usage intensity and content type significantly affect self-esteem and mental health among Generation Z. These findings demonstrate that TikTok has a dual psychological impact depending on usage duration and the quality of consumed content. The results are expected to contribute to digital literacy programs and psychological support initiatives for Generation Z.

Abstract

Pregnancy complications related to cardiovascular disease are a significant cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in Indonesia, exacerbated by low health literacy among women of reproductive age. Effective education is a key intervention, but the most impactful model still needs to be explored. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a multimedia-based interactive education program in increasing knowledge about cardiovascular risk as a preventive measure for pregnancy complications in women of reproductive age. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 17 women of reproductive age (20-35 years) in Malang, who were members of the Indonesian Midwives Association, participated in this program. The intervention consisted of face-to-face education sessions that combined lectures, discussions, and posters and videos. Participants' knowledge was measured before and after the intervention using a validated questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed a statistically significant increase in participants' knowledge scores after the intervention (Z = -2.810$, p = 0.005). The average knowledge score increased from 94.12 (SD = 11.21) on the pre-test to 95.29 (SD = 11.72) on the post-test. All program outputs, including educational modules, media publications, and activity videos, were successfully completed. The interactive education model proved effective in increasing the knowledge of women of reproductive age about cardiovascular risks in pregnancy.

Abstract

The low level of understanding among some pregnant women regarding childbirth preparation remains a challenge in efforts to improve maternal and neonatal preparedness and safety. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of online education delivered through digital posters in improving pregnant women’s knowledge of childbirth preparation in Makassar City. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest model, involving 30 pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. The educational intervention consisted of sending digital posters containing childbirth preparation materials via the WhatsApp platform, followed by measurements of participants’ knowledge before and after the intervention using a Google Form questionnaire. The results showed a substantial increase in knowledge after the intervention, with the mean score rising from 62.3 in the pre-test to 82.7 in the post-test. Furthermore, the paired t-test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the digital poster–based education had a significant effect on improving pregnant women’s knowledge of childbirth preparation. These findings confirm that digital posters serve as an effective, accessible, and contextually relevant educational medium for pregnant women in urban settings such as Makassar City. The study recommends developing more interactive digital content and conducting further research with control groups and additional variables to strengthen the empirical evidence.

Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is a clinical syndrome during pregnancy (after 20 weeks of gestation) characterized by increased blood pressure (>140/90 mmHg) in women whose blood pressure was normal before 20 weeks of gestation. Severe preeclampsia (PEB) is a clinical syndrome during pregnancy (after 20 weeks of gestation) characterized by increased blood pressure (>160/110 mmHg) in women whose blood pressure was normal before 20 weeks of gestation. Risk factors for preeclampsia are age, nulliparity, history of previous preeclampsia, history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, family history and obesity.Preeclampsia is the leading cause of maternal and infant mortality in Indonesia. Research purposes: This study aimed to determine the characteristics of preeclampsia patients at Mamuju Tengah Regional Hospital from 2024 to 2025. This study used an analytical design with a retrospective cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted using secondary data in the form of patient medical records, then the data was processed using SPSS. Results: From 100 samples, the number of severe preeclampsia cases was 93, preeclampsia cases 6 and eclampsia cases 1.The largest proportion of cases, both in total and in cases of severe preeclampsia, occurred in the 20-35 year age group. The majority of patients were multigravida, namely 86 people (86.0%). Only 14 people (14.0%) were primigravida. The distribution of nutritional status in 100 preeclampsia patients (referring to the total sample) showed that the majority of patients had obesity 2 nutritional status (56 people or 56.0%). Followed by obesity 1 (37 people or 37.0%), overweight (6 people or 6.0%), and only 1 person (1.0%) had normal nutritional status. Most preeclampsia patients (99 people or 99.0%) had no previous medical history. Only 1 person (1.0%) had a medical history. Conclusion: Most cases of preeclampsia, severe preeclampsia, and eclampsia occurred in pregnant women in the productive age group of 20-35 years, and most were multigravida. The most significant finding was a very strong association between the incidence of preeclampsia and obesity nutritional status (reaching 93.0% of the total cases), and most patients had no history of previous comorbidities.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global health problem with increasing prevalence. Controlling blood sugar levels through herbal interventions has become a popular alternative due to its accessibility, relative affordability, and minimal side effects. Palm sugar has a low glycemic index, while cinnamon contains active compounds that can improve insulin sensitivity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of palm sugar and cinnamon herbal tea on blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-post test approach in one treatment group conducted in Babussalam District, Southeast Aceh Regency. A total of 40 respondents diagnosed with type 2 DM were divided into an intervention group (n=20) given palm sugar and cinnamon herbal tea, and a control group (n=20) who only received dietary education. The intervention was given for 14 days at a dose of one glass per day. Fasting blood sugar levels were measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests. The majority of respondents were aged 45-60 years (65%), female (60%), and had a family history of type 2 diabetes (55%). The intervention group experienced a significant decrease in fasting blood sugar levels of 32.8 mg/dL (from 182.5±21.3 mg/dL to 149.7±18.5 mg/dL; p<0.001), while the control group only experienced a decrease of 6.3 mg/dL (p=0.087). Comparison between the two groups showed a significant difference (p<0.01).
