Abstract

Adherence to antenatal care (ANC) visits is a crucial indicator of efforts to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. Various studies have examined demographic factors, but health behavior analyses using the Health Belief Model (HBM) in the context of ANC attendance in primary healthcare is still limited. To analyze the impact of the HBM dimensions (perceived vulnerability, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy) and knowledge of pregnant women on ANC visits using multivariate logistic regression. This is a quantitative analytical study with a cross-sectional design involving 240 pregnant women. The instruments used were the HBM and knowledge questionnaires. Variables that significantly influenced ANC adherence were knowledge (OR = 2.84; 95% CI: 1.62–4.97; p < 0.001), perceived benefits (OR = 3.11; p = 0.002), and self-efficacy (OR = 2.53; p = 0.007). The logistic regression model showed a good fit (Hosmer-Lemeshow p = 0.34). Knowledge level and components of the Health Belief Model (HBM) significantly contributed to ANC adherence. Health education and communication interventions grounded in the Health Belief Model (HBM) are strongly recommended.

Abstract

Tuberculosis infection is one of the most common and dangerous human infections. Tuberculosis infection is a health problem in which one-third of the world's population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The diagnosis of TB is still limited to the results of clinical examination, laboratory examination of BTA sputum and conventional thoracic X- rays. Meanwhile, CT scanning has not yet become a standard modality, due to its high cost and unavailability in many primary health care centers. However, CT scans are considered to have advantages in diagnosing minimal lesions, differentiating active and inactive conditions, assessing endobronchial expansion, and better diagnosis pulmonary TB with negative acid resistant bacteria (BTA) sputum examination results. The method used was a literature review with a Narrative Reviews design to identify and summary previously published articles on the relationship between clinical characteristics of pulmonary TB patients and CT scan radiological images. From the 4 articles summarised, it was found that the large number of variations that is not typical of thoracic CT scans of pulmonary TB patients make the diagnosis of pulmonary TB more complicated. It takes precision and good cooperation between radiologist and clinician to jointly make a correct diagnosis of pulmonary TB.

Abstract

Women with excess or deficiency nutritional status can cause decreased hypothalamic function so that it does not provide stimulation to the anterior pituitary to secrete FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Leuteinizing Hormone). In women who experience excess nutrition, there is an increase in high estrogen hormones that provide negative feedback on the production of GnRH (Gonadotropin Hormone) through the secretion of inhibitor proteins that can inhibit the work of the anterior pituitary to produce FSH. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nutritional status on the menstrual cycle of active pre-clinical students of Class of 2023 at the Faculty of Medicine, UMI. Using the cross-sectional method, and bivariate data analysis using the Chi Square test . The results of the study stated that nutritional status affects the menstrual cycle, and nutritional status affects the duration of menstruation.

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by dysregulated immune responses, autoantibody production, and immune complex deposition. Patients with SLE are highly susceptible to infection due to intrinsic immune dysregulation and prolonged use of immunosuppressive therapy. Malnutrition is a frequently overlooked comorbidity in SLE, with a reported prevalence of 46.2% among hospitalized patients. Granulicatella elegans is a fastidious Gram-positive coccus belonging to the nutritionally variant streptococci (NVS) group and is often undetected in routine culture media. We report the case of a 24-year-old woman presenting with a severe SLE flare complicated by septic shock due to Granulicatella elegans infection and severe malnutrition. Nutritional risk screening using the NRS-2002 yielded a score of 6, indicating severe nutritional risk. The patient's energy requirement was set at 2,200 kcal/day, with protein gradually increasing to 1.5 g/kg ideal body weight/day. In accordance with the ESPEN 2022 micronutrient guidelines, supplementation with vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, and selenium was recommended as part of the comprehensive nutritional care plan to address immune dysfunction and oxidative stress associated with critical illness and systemic infection. After seven days of multidisciplinary management, the patient showed significant clinical improvement and was discharged on day seven. This case highlights the critical importance of early nutritional assessment, timely intervention with calibrated macronutrient targets, targeted micronutrient supplementation, and structured nutrition education as essential components of multidisciplinary care in critically ill SLE patients with sepsis.

Abstract

Prescription completeness is an essential component of pharmaceutical services as it is closely related to patient safety and the accuracy of drug therapy. Prescriptions that lack adequate pharmaceutical information may increase the risk of errors during the preparation and administration of medications. This study aimed to evaluate the completeness of prescriptions based on pharmaceutical aspects among outpatients at Hospital X in Lampung Province. A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using secondary data from outpatient prescription records in October 2025. A total of 247 prescriptions were selected using a random sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis to describe the frequency distribution and percentage of completeness for pharmaceutical components, including drug name, dosage form, drug dose, quantity of drugs, and directions for use. The results showed that all prescriptions included the drug name (100%), while the quantity of drugs was documented in 99.2% of prescriptions. However, completeness in other components was still suboptimal, with drug dose documented in 62.8% of prescriptions, dosage form in 43.7%, and directions for use in only 23.5% of prescriptions. These findings indicate that although some pharmaceutical components have been documented, several essential prescription elements remain incomplete and may potentially affect the accuracy of pharmaceutical services. Therefore, improving adherence to prescription writing standards is necessary to support patient safety and the quality of healthcare services.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus type II is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels and requires effective self-management to prevent complications. This study aimed to describe the effect of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) on reducing blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus in the Wijaya Kusuma 4 Ward of RSUD Dr. Adhyatma, MPH, Central Java Province. A descriptive case study design was used involving two patients with type II diabetes mellitus. Data were collected through interviews, observations, blood glucose measurements, and the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ-24). DSME was implemented in four structured sessions over three days. The results showed a decrease in blood glucose levels in both patients and an improvement in knowledge after the intervention. These findings indicate that DSME is effective as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention to reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Skin disorders are a common health problem and can be caused by pathogenic bacterial infections. Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria are known to play a role in various infections that can affect the skin surface. The use of natural ingredients as alternative antibacterial agents is crucial, one of which is nipah leaves (Nypa fruticans), which contain various secondary metabolites with potential antibacterial activity. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of nipah leaf ethanol extract against two test bacteria and to determine the most effective concentration. Antibacterial testing used the disc diffusion method at concentrations of 200 μg/disc, 300 μg/disc, and 400 μg/disc, with chloramphenicol as a positive control and DMSO as a negative control. The results showed that nipah leaf extract formed a zone of inhibition at all tested concentrations. The largest zone of inhibition was found at a concentration of 400 μg/disc, measuring 8,2 mm against Staphylococcus epidermidis, which is classified as having medium inhibitory activity.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis remains a major health problem and is often accompanied by ineffective airway clearance due to excessive sputum production. This case study aimed to describe the effectiveness of warm steam inhalation combined with eucalyptus oil in improving airway clearance among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. The study involved three patients treated in the Mawar Ward of Dr. Adhyatma, MPH Regional General Hospital using a nursing process approach based on SDKI, SLKI, and SIKI standards. Nursing interventions included warm steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil, semi-Fowler positioning, effective coughing techniques, and adequate fluid intake. The results showed consistent clinical improvement in all patients, indicated by increased oxygen saturation, decreased respiratory rate, reduced dyspnea, and more effective sputum expectoration. These findings suggest that warm steam inhalation combined with eucalyptus oil is an effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention to support airway clearance in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Abstract

Wasting is an acute nutritional problem that significantly increases the risk of childhood morbidity and mortality. Given that suboptimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and infectious diseases are major contributing factors, this study aimed to evaluate their specific associations with the nutritional status of children aged 24–59 months. A case-control study was conducted in the Wates Community Health Center Working Area, Central Lampung Regency, in 2026, involving 62 children (31 wasted cases and 31 non-wasted controls). Nutritional status was assessed using weight-for-height indicators, while variables were collected through structured interviews and anthropometric measurements. Data analysis utilized the chi-square test and Odds Ratios (OR). The results demonstrated a striking disparity: 100% of the wasted children experienced inappropriate IYCF practices, whereas 87.1% of the non-wasted children received appropriate feeding. Statistical analysis revealed that appropriate IYCF practices acted as a substantial protective factor against wasting (p = 0.0001; OR = 0.114). Similarly, a history of infectious diseases was highly prevalent in the case group (87.1%), whereas the absence of infection in the control group (83.9%) was significantly protective (p = 0.0001; OR = 0.028). In conclusion, inappropriate IYCF practices and recurrent infections synergistically drive acute malnutrition. These findings highlight the urgent need for targeted nutritional interventions, particularly during the 6-month complementary feeding transition, coupled with contextual environmental infection control.
