Abstract

Menopause increases the risk of hypertension in women due to a decrease in estrogen hormones, which affects blood vessel elasticity. This study aims to describe the implementation of midwifery care for menopausal women with hypertension through the application of beet juice therapy as a complementary therapy. The research method used was qualitative with a descriptive case study design on one subject (Mrs. L, 55 years old) with grade 1 hypertension in the working area of the Ujung Kubu Community Health Center. Care was provided using Varney's midwifery management and SOAP documentation, with the intervention of administering 250 ml of beet juice per day for seven consecutive days. The results showed a significant decrease in blood pressure, from an initial reading of 160/100 mmHg to 140/85 mmHg after the intervention. In addition to clinical improvement, the subject also reported improvement in subjective complaints such as reduced dizziness, anxiety, and improved sleep quality. This reduction in blood pressure is supported by the natural nitrate content in beetroot, which is converted into nitric oxide to aid vasodilation of blood vessels. The conclusion of this study is that beetroot juice therapy has the potential to be an effective, safe, and economical non-pharmacological alternative therapy in midwifery care to help control blood pressure in menopausal women

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure in the arteries continuously increases. High blood pressure can cause additional stress on the heart and blood vessels, which in turn can increase the risk of various serious health problems, including heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and other problems. Blood pressure is measured with two numbers: systolic pressure (pressure when the heart contracts) and diastolic pressure (pressure when the heart rests between contractions). The aim of the research is to analyze the influence of "obedience"-based health education on efforts to manage the health of elderly people suffering from hypertension in Sumberrejo Trucuk Bojonegoro Village. The research method in this study was to use a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pre-posttest design. The sample used was 34 respondents using a total sampling technique, then the research data was tested using a paired t-test. The results of this research show that there is a significant influence from providing "PATUH"-based health education on efforts to manage the health of elderly people with hypertension with a value of sig.0.002. This shows that the health management of hypertensive elderly people must pay attention to cognitive and other aspects as a form of an adequate healthy lifestyle

Abstract

Schizophrenia significantly impairs psychological functioning, behaviour, and social interaction, necessitating comprehensive nursing interventions. Therapeutic communication is considered a core nursing competency in establishing effective therapeutic relationships and optimising patient outcomes. This scoping review aimed to synthesise recent evidence on the effects of nurses’ therapeutic communication in the care of patients with schizophrenia. A scoping review was conducted following the Arksey and O’Malley framework. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Garuda for primary studies published between 2019 and 2025 using the keywords “therapeutic communication,” “nurse,” and “schizophrenia.” Ten eligible studies employing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods designs were analysed through thematic mapping. The findings consistently demonstrate that therapeutic communication contributes to measurable improvements in patient outcomes, including enhanced self-concept, reduced anxiety and anger, decreased aggressive behaviour, improved hallucination control, and strengthened therapeutic alliance. These results reinforce the role of structured, empathy-based communication strategies as an evidence-informed intervention in psychiatric nursing practice. Overall, integrating therapeutic communication into schizophrenia care supports more effective management across multiple psychiatric nursing diagnoses and strengthens the therapeutic process, highlighting its strategic value in improving clinical and psychosocial outcomes.

Abstract

Toddlerhood is a period of rapid growth, requiring complete nutritional needs. Fulfillment of toddler nutrition depends on maternal behavior. According to the Humbang Hasundutan Health Profile, the prevalence of toddler nutritional status based on the 2024 Basic Health Research (Riskesda) was 16.8%, with undernutrition at 13.3%, adequate nutrition at 63%, and overnutrition at 6.2%. This descriptive, analytical study with a cross-sectional design aimed to determine the relationship between maternal dietary behavior and the nutritional status of toddlers. This study was conducted in Saitnihuta Village, Doloksanggul District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency in 2025. Sampling was conducted using total sampling, with 54 mothers and 54 toddlers. The instruments used were questionnaires and toddler weight measurements. Primary data were obtained from questionnaires and toddler weight measurements, while secondary data were collected from village reports. The results of the study, using a chi-square test with a significant degree of significance, showed that maternal knowledge was related to toddler nutritional status (p-value > α (0.000 > 0.05), maternal attitudes were related to toddler nutritional status (p-value < α (0.000 < 0.05), and maternal actions were related to toddler nutritional status (p-value < α (0.000 < 0.005). It is hoped that mothers with toddlers will understand good eating patterns for their children and the active role of the community in supporting health services and the role of health workers in providing counseling on toddler nutrition.

Abstract

The aging process is generally defined as the accumulation of various changes that occur in cells and tissues as we age. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an elderly individual is defined as a person who has reached or surpassed 60 years of age. Changes in conditions experienced by the elderly are not only physical changes, but also social and psychological changes. These changes influence each other and interact with other factors, which have an impact on the health conditions of the elderly, including appetite regulation which indirectly also has an impact on nutritional status in elderly. As we already know, nutrition is an important component for the elderly that affects the entire aging process and the general health condition of the elderly, including their oral health. Oral health and nutrition themselves have a multidirectional relationship. This relationship is manifested in the oral cavity, including plaque formation, dental caries, periodontal disease and other oral conditions. It is imperative for clinicians to comprehend the interplay between oral health and nutrition, as this knowledge is crucial for the effective management of elderly patients. This article focuses on the relationship between nutrition an oral health and its impact on older adults.

Abstract

Background: Soy isoflavones, particularly genistein, have been widely studied for their anti-inflammatory properties. However, evidence regarding their modulatory effects on interleukin-1β (IL-1β)–related inflammatory pathways in oral mucosal tissues remains limited. Objective: This scoping review aimed to map the available experimental evidence on the effects of genistein on inflammatory responses associated with IL-1β in the oral cavity. Methods: A scoping review was conducted following a comprehensive literature search of PubMed and ScienceDirect databases. Articles published in English between 2016 and 2026 were screened using predefined keywords related to soy isoflavones, genistein, IL-1β, inflammation, and oral or periodontal tissues. Original experimental studies focusing on inflammatory modulation in oral or periodontal contexts were included. Results: From the literature search, only one experimental study met the inclusion criteria. The included study investigated a genistein-loaded folic acid–modified liposome-hydrogel composite for periodontitis treatment. The findings demonstrated that genistein exerted anti-inflammatory effects by modulating inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, and inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway. The study also reported improved inflammatory regulation through macrophage phenotype modulation and interaction with periodontal ligament stem cells. Conclusion: Current experimental evidence on the role of genistein in modulating IL-1β–related inflammation in the oral cavity is scarce. The limited findings suggest that genistein has potential anti-inflammatory effects in periodontal inflammation; however, further well-designed experimental studies focusing specifically on oral mucosal cells and inflammatory pathways are needed to support its therapeutic application.

Abstract

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a reproductive health problem commonly experienced by adolescent girls and can cause physical and emotional disturbances that affect daily activities and quality of life. Limited knowledge and inappropriate attitudes toward PMS are still frequently found, particularly among adolescent girls living in orphanages who have restricted access to health information. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of health education on premenstrual syndrome in improving knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls at LKSA Aisyiyah Kudus Orphanage. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The study population consisted of all adolescent girls at LKSA Aisyiyah Kudus Orphanage, totaling 34 respondents, with total sampling used as the sampling technique. Data were collected using knowledge and attitude questionnaires administered before and after the health education intervention, which was delivered through PowerPoint (PPT) media using an experience sharing technique. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was applied. The results showed a significant improvement in both knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls after the health education intervention (p < 0.05), indicating a meaningful difference between pretest and posttest measurements. These findings demonstrate that health education is effective in increasing knowledge and fostering positive attitudes among adolescent girls toward premenstrual syndrome.

Abstract

Community Health Centers (Puskesmas), as first-level health care facilities, play a strategic role in providing Community Health Efforts (UKM) and Individual Health Efforts (UKP). The integration and effectiveness of these two efforts are largely determined by the quality of service management. This study aims to analyze the management of UKM and UKP services at Community Health Centers through a qualitative approach. The study was conducted at three community health centers (Puskesmas) in Southwest Sumba Regency in 2025. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document review. Informants included the heads of the community health centers, community-based health unit (UKM) coordinators, community-based health unit (UKP) coordinators, health workers, and community representatives. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis through data reduction, categorization, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that management functions (planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating) have been implemented, but are not fully based on community needs. Key challenges include limited human resources, administrative burdens, suboptimal cross-program coordination, and suboptimal data utilization. The integration of SMEs and UKPs remains administrative and not yet fully operational. Strengthening managerial capacity, optimizing information systems, and increasing public participation are key strategies for improving service quality.
